The city has been plagued by crimes such as murders, kidnappings, mobile phone snatchings, rapes, molestations and robbery.

But all that appears to have changed with the introduction of the Anambra state vigilante group nearly two years ago. The head of the vigilante group in Onitsha is Godfrey Okafor.

When the new governor came in, Peter Obi, he started the Anambra vigilante group, which is known as ASV- Anambra State Vigilante. So we went for the training at Awka and we were trained under the commissioner of police

Vigilance group is a neighborhood watch group, not an army. They observe and report criminal activities and they are not armed in anyway.

And they have the same thing in your anambra village.

I have been in the north long enough to know how things work here.
The name vigilante is just a smokescreen to cover the real intention behind the militia group.

Take the Hisbah corps for example.. they were created to inforce and police Islamic laws on Moslems but today they can arrest non Moslems and charge them based on sharia laws.

Mineral Resources in the north is free for all northerners to mine and sell without any consequences but its a taboo for a southerner to refine the oil in his backyard.

Peter Obi set up the same thing in Anambra and they have the same thing in eboyin, in akwa ibom, in Benue in Rivers, in Lagos and so on and they are still their with no government intervention.
