yes already done

they could have used it for longer but spares/support/maintenance was getting too costly/difficult

old video of NAG atgm testfire

lol the missile is big relative to the tank

and the hit at 90 degree as shown at 1.45s is really good

a top attack mode does not necessarily mean capability to hit at 90 degree or so

therefor 90 degree hit is a good capability to have considering nag is a Lock-On-Before-Launch LOBL atgm without operator guidance ie fire and forget

while HELINA is a Lock-on-After-Launch LOAL atgm which allows the operator to choose the point of impact on the target via the 2-way RF command-and-video data link.

The US has confirmed that the critical Category One UAV technology from US-based General Atomics has been released, acceding to India’s strong request. Also, the Indian Air Force has requested for 100 units of Predator C Avenger aircraft worth $8 bn.

Highly placed sources told FE, “The White House under President Donald Trump spearheaded the interagency process to make a very significant policy change in favour for India by granting this technology as desired by India based on senior Indian government requests.”

As reported by FE earlier, Indian Navy had sent the letter of request for 22 Sea Guardians in June 2016 and under the Obama administration no tangible action was taken. However, the biggest tangible take away from the Trump-Modi deliberations in Washington DC recently was operationalisation of the major defence partner relationship.

General Atomics chief executive Vivek Lall, a former Boeing official and NASA scientist, who is considered as the father of US India defence relations, met US Vice President Pence post the Prime Minister Modi visit.

Lall had commented, “We are extremely pleased President Trump and Prime Minister Modi have had excellent deliberations and the path forward for a game changer in US India defence relations has been charted. Given the Sea Guardian’s capabilities such a US response to the Indian Navy request demonstrates a major change in US policy because this type of aircraft capability is only exported to a very select few of America’s closest defence partners.

This represents tangible implementation of US Congress’ designation of India as a major defence partner.” According to sources, India has been requesting predator technology for several years, and it was only the combination of Trump and Modi that they were able to move the decision to this point. India was able to join MTCR after significant role of United States backing its entry. Observers term this as another major foreign policy success for Modi.

Earlier this year, the Indian Air Force (IAF) had also officially requested the US government for General Atomics Predator C Avenger aircraft. This request is being actively considered by the White House as a second step after operationalising the 22 Guardian aircraft for the Indian Navy.

As military aviation transforms globally to autonomous systems, US and India have a great opportunity to collaborate at the highest levels of technology and innovation. Overall Indian requirement for UAVs is approximately 650 units
Dah fuq!? India doesn't have the tech to manufacture their own? I don't think so. Nemesis4u,what's the real deal?

The Beretta 92 on the way out-finally! This 9 milly replaced the 7 decade long .45 for political reasons. Italy insisted it was their price for continued US bases on their land. Frankly, the pistol also had shocking reliability issues:

In a 2006 report on U.S. infantry weapon reliability, the M92 scored at the bottom compared to the M4 carbine, M16 rifle, and M249 squad automatic weapon. In every category, from handling to accuracy to maintainability, the M92 came in dead last—or tied for last. Twenty-six percent of soldiers polled reported their weapon jammed while shooting at the enemy. Forty-six percent reported they didn't have confidence in their pistol's reliability.

Dayummmmm..you literally take your life in your hands shooting at bad guys with a 92. Its no surprise Deltas,SEALS and Marine force recon still use the original 1911 .45

The modular Sig 320 will now be the US armed forces side arm. It can be interchanged with 9mm and .40.

1.does not have all the tech and the infrastructure like test ranges etc required to build a predator type drone

2.u cannot leap technology , it is progressive , every bit of existing technology has to be tested operationally on a existing platform and this takes lot of time before jumping up the next tech scale.

3.experience and confidence to built high performance drones is inherent to a high tech military civilian industrial complex capability spanning various specialized domains. without it nobody can indigenously build drones .

4.almost all the components systems sub systems of a drone must adhere to mil spec standards ie nato/us standards/certifications . this requires extensive knowledge testing, facilities and experience.

5.unless u develop a drone approaching the capability range of a predator (some of the parameters atleast) and operationalize it , it will be very difficult to develop go forth to design a predator type drone.

6.shoestring budgets and political apathy will always hamper development

7.immediate user requirements will sometimes necessitate import of drones , so no other alternative as local products developed first time will always take time.

etc

there r alternate ways to leap frog technology eg. china -cloning / stealing which in turn requires massive budget and resources and not feasible for most of the countries like ind...

therefor u got to import and maybe if somebody is smart , he will examine one of the imported drones little to closely and then hopefully gain enough insight to expedite their own drone development. wink

drdo lab was budgeted only 50 million dollars to develop ATGMs undecided

no point guessing how much was budgeted for drone development grin

Do you think there’s still hope for this aircraft in NAF service ? Before the mig29 story I thought there was hope.

That mig-29 story sounds like a future project to me. To me any news from DHQ or NAF shouldn't be considered serious except if there's an official report on it.

Gripen turns aggressor

Saab has unveiled a new Gripen concept at the ongoing DSEI 17 in London. The Gripen Aggressor, is based on the Gripen C airframe, with a Gripen D-based two-seater an option. The Aggressor proposal is optimised for its mission and would not have live weapons capability.

Instead, it would have a simulation-based capability to fire air-to-air missiles, and its gun. The aircraft would also gain Saab's PS-05 Mk IV radar and an air combat manoeuvring instrumentation pod, while retaining its intra-Gripen fighter link and Link 16 functionality.

The program is aimed at getting rid of ‘‘negative-value’’ air combat training, in which modern aircraft fight against either the same type of aircraft, or against older and less-capable types. By offering dissimilar-type training against modern aircraft, it gives maximum training value, allowing pilots to ‘‘train as they fight’’.

The Gripen Aggressor proposal is being aimed at providing a high-end ‘Red Air’ adversary aircraft and proposed as a solution for the UK's air support to defence operational training (ASDOT) requirement, and part of the US Air Force's adversary air (ADAIR) opportunity.

it seems india will procure total of 30 of US 2i amphibious aircraft ShinMayWa

12 of these aircrafts in flyaway condition. Another 18 will be produced in India via TOT

damn 30 of these for SAR only or will it be retrofitted with weapons/EW equipment's locally

these aircraft have a range of 4,500km

the Japanese cut down the price of the aircraft's due to reluctance from the Indians over its high cost
each costs around 100+ million dollars
