Here are photos from the famous Girmache Shrine. This is a traditional shrine in Zuru Local Government Area in Kebbi State where thousands of harmless crocodiles reside in a peace of water surrounded by thick trees. According to reports, the Girmache Shrine is a place of worship, the local inhabitants visit this place and offer sacrifices to the gods of the shrine and present gifts to the crocodiles - some of them make special request to the shrine.

According to Jalaludeen Maradun who shared this, the Girmache shrine is also a bus stop for some "clean" politicians. The custodians of the Girmache Shrine are always in animal skin rugs - the only clothing approved by the gods.

Zuru is the first place that come to mind when I saw this thread . Zuru Dak'karawa people are very peaceful and in every Badakkare family is made of Christians and Muslims those people are example Muslim and Christian can co'exist . Even their Kindom tho their rulers are Muslim they preserve the Girmace shrine. It's a history place for zuru people grin and you can play and have fun with those crocodiles too and they won't do you harm aslong as you are from zuru. cheesy

The crocodilles are most likely West African crocodiles.

Compared to the Nile crocodile, the West African crocodile is smaller: Adults are typically 1.5–2.5 m (5–8 ft) long,[11] and maximum is perhaps 3–4 m (10–13 ft).[12] It is also less aggressive than the Nile crocodile and usually does not attack humans.
