Optimistic comment from all. At least we can all be serious for once. Again, good everyone agrees IT is the way forward. But there's a cliche'. Most young graduates would tend to look this way as a means to an end, then you will hear people make comments like can I learn enough Neyworking in 6 months? Or can I become a programmer in 6 months....

Not wanting to scare you, but there is a reason good programmers, web developers, data analyst, software designers are in short supply. The trade is hard (no sugar coating this)

You don't dabble into this as per hobbying. You go into it whole hog like your life depended on it. You don't think 6 months, but let's say within a year of serious study, you may have made it to an intermediary state. Then your journey begins

Learning in this field is never ending. But the thrill and excitement is super rewarding. With all these said, if you think you can commit just two hours everyday with eyes glued to your screen for the next 2,3 years, then this is for you.

To get started, don't waste your time on roadside training, they are too watery and offer no value for money paid. Instead, explore courses on udacity, coursera, edx, udemy for absolute free. Make quora and stackoverflow your next love and in no time, you'll find your rythm.

I agree but....... Lots and I can hazard to say most Nigerian youth don't like learning anything they deem to be hard or complex. Even when they start, they bail at the first point they really to have to apply their brains and IT is a lot about applying your ability to reason and logic to solve problems. Nigerian youth don't have time for "logic" and "solving complex problems" and "creating creative solutions". They prefer following just one predefined system of doing things, one laid down formula, one rule book because it's so much easier. IT on the other constantly challenges you to step out of the box, do something new, take chances, come up with options. Nigerian youth, unfortunately, arent fans of any of the above.

Hustlers now talking web design and some are already advertising "web design bootcamp" . If you like, go there and waste your money. There are only few of these web design "institutes" that give what is needed unfortunately, I don't know any. All I see are hustlers. Forget the magic of beautiful CSS backgrounds they will teach you. That's just a starting point. I have been there, 5 years ago, web development training! Note, "development"! But, it was all magic.

A lot of you don't even know what you need: design or development or both. What's the difference? Before you go for that "Web Design" HTML/CSS marathon, go back to the post, read it carefully this time. Search online for the right path to take.

Most of those things has to do with dev, not web design. Developers usually use codes to implement solutions. Solutions are usually the big tasks. In other words, they are also good programmers and developers. Being a good developer isn't a day job.

Granted, you can start learning web design today and "graduate" next week. Congratulations! After all, you can create a website. But, a programmer's journey is usually longer.

Tip: if there are sk many people jumping into web design these day, why not go for development/programming? Mobile, Desktop, Web dev, etc.

Nowadays most IT companies do not only rely on your certifications, they want it being practical, like ; what can you really do either in isolation or within a team.

I know lots of peeps here with certifications all over.. go to LinkedIn you will see them flocking around with certs without any experience.

I am a Senior network engineer, it took me years of practices: trial and error to get there. I have a Lab at home where i simulate network scenarios during my off days.

You need devoted time to become an IT professional and then you start seeing the money flowing like water.

As an IT consultant you can't earn lesser than 500K a month except you don't know what you are doing.

Op I don't think ur write up is accurate in Nigeria. When u say 'high employment rate', it means that the likelihood of getting employed after completion of such a course is very high. and I don't think that is the case in dis country. I cud b wrong tho. Also, if those certifications are in high demand, one should see announcement for vacancies in companies wishing to employ. I however have never come across any advert 4a system analyst, or a software tester. From observation, I think software developer's have an edge over the others in Nigeria. At least adverts are often placed 4programmers. In developed countries the op's write up would apply, bt sadly d reality is different on ground in dis country. The streets are full of IT certified jobless people.

For ICT training especially in Networking, you can try NIIT and HIIT..It will cost about 250k for CCNA training and the certification itself is $325
