DonnyE:Thanks alot bro. I have traversed more than you can think. I work with the government now though. And all the skills I've acquired in private coy / practice are really making a star of me now. I am quite contented ATM and hibernating till I move up to the next phase. I have dropped the practicality and acquired masters and working at my PhD. I really like the exposure I have had. I'll only keep more informed and in touch. |

Philistine:A brilliant write up by the OP. It has become most evident that IT is the future of the world. Please i need experts' advice. I am a fresh graduate, and recently got employed by a mid level company as a business developer (entry level). I had the intent to undergo a training in web design but now a little bit confused. Weeks ago, the company had a rift with the IT guy, and he left. Management mentioned that i take up the responsibility of managing our site (built with WordPress) until a new IT person is employed. The confusion now is whether to proceed with the web design which has being my intent, or to undergo WordPress training in order to be able to manage our site. Note: I am a newbie in the terrain of ICT. |

justli:Based on ur last paragraph, are u saying one can learn online, as in do courses online without having to go to a physical training Institute? Also, like the fact that u talked on the not so rosy part of ICT/IT... Thanks! |

Davidoff2000:good day sir! I must say I am really inspired by ur write up, cos I believe that knowing basics is the best way of learning anything instead of jumping steps. I would love to follow the path u mentioned above in learning ICT/IT but I don't have an idea of the things u mentioned. Sir, if u don't mind, I will appreciate it if u give me a guide on how to go about it, I can work with u as an apprentice if it's fine by u. Thanks! |

niggi4life:But bro, you guys often fail to acknowledge one fact, there are few jobs, what do u want a fresh Telecoms Engineer to do while there are no jobs? Run off to do a masters degree or go somewhere, get trained, study and get certificates rather than sitting at home. I took a year off my job to visit India and gather knowledge and certificates. The field isn't too different from the classroom, especially in networks and Server. I remember several times using remote access to help my friends on the field. I used SOlved an SCCM problem without having experience on ever using a Live SCCM server. Young guys out there, if you can't get a job, and you have the funds, please pursue the certificates and the knowledge, it will always pay you in the long run. Especially when you start working and have no time to study for any exam. And like the poster rightly said, you need to have a Lab to practice. I UNL, and VIRL I use to test topologies, I even integrate them with active Directory, SCCM and cloud, and still try to hack them...lol, all for fun! YOU MUST PRACTICE IN ICT |
