So? We engaged TLD to design our proposed terminal. Running into billions. Multiple teams. And here we have you, a QS of undermined years of experience, claiming you single handedly did the review, proposal, scope and boqs for a billion naira project.

And you are the same person pretending to be an architect for hussein.

I can also forward the entire feed documents from TLD and claim its from me.

Our in house architect runs the same scam well. Tells clients he can do everything, then raids our old drawings and boqs, tweaks and presents as his own.

No be today them dey do that format.
Well that's your in house architect,I can take you FAAN when your free to see my former bosses yourself then you can I ask or I can message you their numbers.

IF I forward the bill you would see the date, year 2015 and time it was sent to my BOSS.

The hussle thing started recently. As at 2015 I worked at Federal Airport Authority Nigeria (FAAN)as an assistant QS.So me Preparing a billion Naira BOQ dosent mean money go enter pocket. And if you dont know mainly QS firms work in teams. At FAAN its a QS To an OGA,OR 3QS's to an OGA.

Pls dont come and put sand in My Garri on Nairaland.
I am calling you out because you are making dodgy claims. Like I said, our in-house architect does the same thing all the time. He tells clients he is a project engineer. Sometimes the guy gets in over his head and starts lying that he is on oil rig, will get back later.

If you had said you did only the civil, or you did only the basic structures, I could even attempt to believe you.

Here you are claiming billion naira terminal, no bund wall, no forecourt, no loading gantry, no separator pit, no tank base.

BULLSHEEET

lol.I should not be arguing with you.

Like I told you its been 2years for Godsake,How will I remember what I did IN 2015 ,Through i left somethings out but that doesnt take away the fact that i did the BOQ for a tankfarm. when its not my specialty. My expertise is building only and that's what I have stuck to. Only had s stint in heavy engineering during my time at FAAN.

WHETHER YOU BELIEVE OR NOT WHAT I KNOW IS THAT I HAVE DONE IT.For 3 different Oil and gas companies.

For me,I have seen you have never liked me from the start, dont know why you dislike my personality even without meeting me.It would have taken me nothing to call my boss or even google to find out the litres and number of tanks, but I have told you I only remember a few details from back then.

You don't understand. I do not need to call anyone. I can spit out basic terminal requirements in my sleep. That's why I will continue to say your claims are spurious. If you had said you did the boq for a small mini depot, I could have believed. But your are there claiming that you did a big terminal, maybe with three 10 million litre tanks - I call bs.

What is the principle of this roofing style that slopes from front to back. Like a gradient
In a layman explanations what is the height of the block's in the front vs the block's at the back.
Any pitfall to watch out for in this kind of roofing.
Thanks

Per Hajj, only use long span.

I wanted 2.5 blocks but my Carpenter took it upon himself to do 5 blocks, way too high in my opinion.

I call them single slope roof.

Attached is the section of my roof plan that addressed this. High = 3.856, low = 3.200, difference is .656 metres which is about 2.2 feet.

I will be converting the roof to hip roof later on when this one wears out.

I dont support this totally.
QS dont deal with buildings only, we do lot of engineering stuffs too.Any sound QS with experience in engineering works should be able to do BEME.
I cant speak for other QS's, I personally I have done the BOQ for large engineering projects.
I have personally done the BOQ for NEPAL OIL AND GAS fuel depot, which cost over N800M, BOQ for Rammanyah OIL AND GAS which cost over N1B (have got proof) and other projects which I cant start mentioning here.

So in conclusion Cost Engineers and QS's are similar except that one is more recognized than the other(QS).I have been 2 offices where QS's are being refered to as cost engineers.During my ND days as a student, at one of the QS events we went to, I remember a top NIQS official told us that QS's can also be addressed as Cost engineers.

To also buttress my point, I can tell you that the Bill of Engineering Measurement and Evaluation, BEME, being used by engineers is not internationally recognised but was packaged by engineers to retain their stranglehold on the construction industry- QUOTING MR OLAYEMI SHONUBI (immediate past chairman of NIQS Lagos state chapter. )

Only the BOQ prepared by a QS is recognized Internationally.

Shikena
I really cannot draw the line between Cost engineer and QS, like i said before, the duties are similar.

Thank God for this post.
raymondFirstborn:
TRUE talk here is what my QS and building tech dad with over 50years experience has to say

Cost Engineers Surveys the market , does the evaluation of the Rates , evaluation of impacts of market escalations and tensions , calculates the deployment of T&P , cost of hiring skilled and unskilled labour and prepares the Rate Analysis for certain items of work or Evaluates the Cost of construction works.

While

The Quantity surveyor does the analysis of quantities , prepares the Rate analysis ,does the calculation of the quantities of work and obtains the expected cost of work. He Prepares the projects schedule of works and flow for execution and monitors it to ensure its proper implementation.ETC (GOT TIRED OF LISTENING)
From your comments, it is typical of Nigerian professionals, we don't accept our limits and find ourselves doing jobs of other professionals and still making claims to the duty.

I know a structural designer in Abj who might have been a secondary school leaver but was trained by a civil engineer as his personal draftsman. Years later, he was making alot of money on his own, you won't imagine the mighty church auditoriums, multi level parking, hotels etc he has designed for an average of ₦100k. These are public buildings. Just recently, he went for an OND, to have a minimum certification in civil engineering.

How would this guy ever know limits. He does M&E, EIA, GI, just name them.

I dont find it strange if you call yourself a cost engineer, its the Nigerian way.

It's for the sake of those of us who might be taken in by his claims. Na so the 'project engineer' I was talking about dey do.
Re: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by rotecch77(m):
@backtosender.good explanation from Oga egun.
You can do the front side 1125mm or 1350mm and the back 225mm or 450mm,with this the height it can reduce heat and sound and also water can run fast on it to reduce leakage, lastly the height can be able to accommodate any woker that needs to work inside the ceiling.
Check some of it that I handle for some nL member in diff locations

Just found the site plan for NEPAL oil and Gas fuel Depot.

Two storage tanks
Size of each tank in litre. T101 - 537, 078ltrs
T102 - 537,078ltrs
H. - 7500mm

SURFACE HST -OUTLET - 45,000ltrs

TWO UNDERGROUND TANKS - 45,000ltrs each

SIZE OF THE TANK FARM. 58000mm x 90000mm

Skipped some other things though.

Thanks Big Eguns, maybe the carpentar wants a slope for easy water runoff on the roof.

That's the thing, he should have done what the architect drew and what I told him I wanted. I think the 2 feet difference is actually enough. Others have even flatter roofs.

This is one of the by-product of not being on the ground. By the time I saw it they were too far gone on the build.

The building is an accessory building and shouldn't be jostling for roof height with the main house. Structure get level for compound now grin

I've seen it down either way.

Either blocks used to set the slope or blocks used to cover the wood frame.

My builder used the block after wood frame method. I don't like this method and prefer that the blocks be used to set the slope.

PS: The last picture was what started the downfall of Brabus on here. It was my turning point where I went from being his supporter to his sworn property forum enemy grin

Good times.

oga hussle,

it gets more and more interesting. you did the job in 2015, you do not have soft copies of the drawings used [though you somehow still have hard copies lipsrsealed]

everything you post makes you look more and more amateurish. you posted a picture of a hard copy layout of a site. one single drawing. is that what you derived your 800 million costs from? The drawing even looks as if it was used to clean water
i would have thought at the very least, that you would have posted jpgs from the dwgs or pdfs - instead you give me this low quality scan?

from the drawing , your 800million project actually looks like an aviation depot - something like this [ yes, i just feel like showing off small]

As far as i am knowledgeably informed, cost engineering and quantity surveying are not exactly the same. Their duties however are very similar but their field defers.

Quantity surveying deals majorly with building construction while cost engineering with engineering projects such as a refinery, high voltage power lines/substation, power generation etc.

QS uses the term BOQ - Bill of quantities while Cost engineer uses the term BEME - Bill of Engineering Measurements.
I'm sorry...but you are partly right and partly wrong. You misconstrued my response to Raymondfirstborn...I was trying to correct him that there is nothing like Quantity Surveyor in the USA, rather people in the USA who are trained to do what QS do here in Nigeria, UK, SA, Australia, the Middle East are called COST ENGINEERS, not Quantity Surveyors.

You are right about the fact that their duties are similar but wrong about the statement that their field differs.

In the USA, Cost Engineers deal with both building construction, civil engineering and heavy engineering projects & NOT the Last 2 only because no other professional is qualified to do that there.
Here in Nigeria & all other countries where QS is recognized, QS are trained & qualified to prepare bills for building construction, civil engineering and heavy engineering projects...that's the reason why here in Nigeria, our standard method of measurement (popularly called QS Bible) has been constantly revised to meet up with developments in the construction & engineering sector, thus we now have up to Building and Engineering Standard Method of Measurement 4th Edition (BESMM 4) in Nigeria. Google and see for yourself.

As such, QS & Cost Engineers do similar jobs & operate in the same fields. Their approach and methods are the major difference.

This is just a snippet of what we at NIQS learn & are reminded of every year as part of Mandatory Continuing Professional Development, required of every professional, chartered & registered QS by the institute...so I had to set the record straight.

Do you know that there are QS in engineering construction companies like Julius Berger, CCECC, etc...also in PHCN, Shell Petroleum Development Company, Sahara Energy & so many oil services companies in Nigeria...whose job description is not in building construction but in engineering construction and services (roads, bridges, dams, railway lines, power transmission & distribution infrastructure, refineries, tank farms, etc)??

Take a search on LinkedIn for starters...you'll find so many!!
