To be fair, most of life already is an illusion, most will not experience even an epiphany in their entire lifetime let alone embark on the journey to spiritual enlightenment.
Being regarded as 'God' on earth and the eventual reconciliation with the 'Supreme Godhead' are two different things entirely. Yes, a person can be deified even whilst alive and worshipped as God but it is a human attribution. The Roman Caesars were considered ‘gods’ or sons of ‘gods’ but they died in the same ignominious manner of men and realising their folly they made that declaration. But one can be deified and pass on to the pantheon of the greats. There is a Christ consciousness that preceded even Jesus, it is a Divine attribute and Jesus is one of a select few to attain that and is rightfully deified. But God in my view is an experience that transcends humanity.
