been trying out the q400 dash 8 past few months now, i must say an awesome flying machine,on flight sim. I presently use the 3flight sims softwares xplane10, prepar3d v3 and FSX it self. But realistically, xplane 10 is the best simulator out there,but aint cheap interms of its addons and plane models, flies worth 55gig of space without addons ll chew an affordable hole in your pockets, ranging from 5$ TO 40$. BUT ITS WORTH IT. My system spec right now is corei5 3.35 ghz working well, hoping to get a good graphic card and boost it badass soon.

By the way, does anyone have a simulator for quadcopters?
I actually make them and fly line of sight for fun or aerial photography but I want to start flying FPV and need to practice on a SIM before the real thing. Quadcopter parts are quite expensive.

I hope you get to fly online on VATSIM, if you haven't then you are missing a lot. VATSIM is an online platform for enthusiasts in flying aircraft and air traffic controller, you will get to experience how real world flying procedure virtually. Its so much fun. I did many full circle ibadan to lagos flights, landed the 747 in LAX and Heathrow. Completed most FSX challenges and earned badges. I was nicknamed the ground pilot. That was years ago. I still have the FSX installation dvd for anyone who may be interested. It was fun playing the games as everything; aircrafts and environment is built to near reality.

I also did little hilicopter flights. They were harder to fly.

I doff my hat for Microsoft. FSX is so real I configured a flight so that I will have the Himalayan mountains in the flight path. The view was breathtaking. Mount everest could be seen.

You can do full ILS approach in some Scandinavian airports where the clouds are very low. You can configure your auto pilot to rely on glide scopes in well equipped airport and make the plane land itself.

I love flying. Expecially for the scenery. Try doing a flight in the mountainous terrains of Alaska and look out the window the scenes are beautiful.

In FSX you have the Garmin GPS and a flight planner. I once configured a 747 on an international flight. From fuel quantity to take off weight, take off, climbing to FL400 (40,000 feets), cruising, descending, approach and landing all the time comunicating with relevant ATC on the ground.

It was fun.

Great to discover other flight simulator fans in da house. I use mostly the antiquated but trusty FS2004, despite owning the hardware demanding newer FSX, and my list of addon scenery is extensive to say the least.

Among my scenery product acquired over the years are LAX Los Angeles, San Francisco International, Lindbergh Field San Diego, O'hare Chicago, JFK New York, Midway Chicago, Tampa Florida, Miami International Florida, Flughaffenbahn Zurich Switzerland, Geneva Switzerland, Schipol Amsterdam, Heathrow London, Gatwick London, London City, London, Pricess Juliana Airport St. Maartan, Innsbruk Austria, Kai Tak Hong Kong, and Chep Lak Khok Hong Kong, to cite just a partial list of the airports whose highly detailed scenery vistas come to life as I fly in and out of those airports, or simply take low level helicopter scenic tours of the airports from a perspective that would not be possible as a mere passenger.

For added realism, I also have My Traffic, which adds AI aircraft to the scenery, with airliners taking off, landing, and even aborting landings, to execute go-rounds, when I intentionally invade the runway for my own illegal renegade takeoffs ha ha.

My MSFS 2004 aircraft hangar includes the highly detailed Level D 767-300ER, that is used for real-world pilot type-rating training by an Israeli airline, while from PMDG I own the Boeing 737-900, the Boeing 747 and the unstable tri-engine MD11, that is used for cargo mostly these days.
To experience the fly-by-wire philosophy of Airbus, I own the Aerosoft Airbus A320, whose MCDU flight computer is analogous, yet different in methodology, than the Boeing FMS. To my thinking, the flight automation employed by Airbus, takes away too much of the hand-flying skills needed by all pilots, even in this day of automated flight. Set your Airbus A320 into a 20-degree bank-angle to make a turn, and that bird will hold that precise roll angle with no side-stick input required from the pilot, until the intended target heading is attained. This is a sharp contrast from Boeing's protocol when the auto-pilot is disengaged and a turn is initiated. Constant adjustments are required on the yoke in a Boeing, to hold that roll angle, which is my preference for sure.

My favorite addon aircraft by far is the brutally powerful Level D 767-300, whose flight deck has become as familiar to me as the dash of my car. Spent many hours mastering the 767's FMS Flight Management System computer, programming in flight paths for the auto-pilot to track. My flights are intentionally short, since landing is my favorite part of sim flying, especially in rough weather that inflicts major destabilizing crosswinds that I must battle, to stay on course. Setting up an auto-land on an ILS equipped runway, is a thing of beauty to watch, as the bird tracks the runway center line, right until you tap the toe-brakes and invoke thrust reverse to slow down to the sound of major thunder from those twin turbines.

Of the airports, I enjoy the most challenging ones such as Innsbruk Austria, which is located in a narrow mountain pass that requires pilots to execute sharp, steep banking turns to get lined up for short finals. Then there is the now closed Kai Tak Hong Kong's infamous 13 IGS "checkerboard approach", which calls for a radical 30-degree right roll, at 600 feet AGL, as the bird swoops down hard, over towering buildings, losing height so fast the computerized warnings ALWAYS start shouting at me. Many pilots failed to make that landing in real life, and wound up testing the amphibious capabilities of their aircraft, in the waters of the Hong Kong Harbor, after they touched down, and ran out of runway, even with Autobrake settings at maximum level 3.

For depth of realistic immersion, my home cockpit includes a CH Flight Yoke, Saitek Rudder Pedals, and a FSX Throttle Quadrant (with flaps selector, speed brake lever, elevator trim wheel, and thrust reverse levers). To FEEL the roar of those jet engines, the adapted car seat of my sim-cockpit is hooked up to a device called the butt-kicker, which simulates the floor-shaking power of jet engines at full throttle, as a heavy metal airliner cuts loose into the takeoff roll, during which the pilot and crew are meant to FEEL the power of the beast, in their bones.

One of these days, I hope to acquire the flight deck of a scrapped 737 or 767, to convert into the ULTIMATE home flight simulator. I drool like a demented hound dog, each time I see pictures of all those inoperative jets that litter Nigerian airports, particularly at Kano.

As if all these fixed wing exploits were not enough, I also own a helicopter flight sim setup, which comprises a Go Flight Cyclic lever, Saitek rudder pedals to serve as anti-torque pedals, and a go-flight collective lever, with twist-grip throttle for use with the basic Robinson R22 helicopter, whose throttle is not governor controlled. Took me many, many hours to master hovering at a dead standstill with the R22 helo, and in that little bird that is so notoriously unstable in real life, I have taken the time to master a huge chunk of what is taught in flight school, with the notable exception of auto-rotation engine failure landings, whose aerodynamic physics is not modeled in FS2004.

Finally, my obsession with flight spills over into drone and RC flight, for which I own the Phoenix RC5.5 Sim, the Aerofly7 sim, and the Real Flight 7 sim. My hands-down favorite RC sim is Phoenix RC5.5, which I fly online in the company of an international crowd of fellow drone fanatics. Maybe later, if there is interest expressed here, I will post a video of some fast jet action that I taped the other day, during which myself and some fellas from Germany and Italy, flew a few superb formation sessions, as we often do in the virtual skies we all share.

well ever since i got XPLANE 11, life has been so sweet flying virtually, since am more of a rotary wing pilot, i got my pay wares and its awesome using the bristows s92, and bell 412EP, well known for flying here in Nigeria.

Fantastic detail in the flight deck of those helicopters, HeloMan. Would those be payware from Nemeth Designs ? Those cockpit displays look fully functional and possibly equivalent in systems and procedures, to type-rating simulator models used to train real world pilots.

Being able to select Bristow Helicopters livery is icing on the cake. Very nice pictures.

If your home setup includes a cyclic lever, some pedals, and a collective, in front of a large screen TV, you could charge Bristow Helicopter pilots $s per simulator hour, when they need to revise in preparation for their regular check-ride examinations ha ha. On a serious note, anyone attending flight training would benefit enormously from every hour they spend using a professional level flight simulator, with highly detailed addon payware aircraft of the caliber produced by PMDG for Boeings, and Aerosoft for Airbus, as two prominent examples.

X-Plane users like yourself have always been fewer in number compared to those using FSX and now Prepare3D, but all these years of browsing aviation forums, I have often read opinions expressed by many a flight simulator purist that also has real-world flight hours logged, maintaining that the flight physics and control input response offered by X-Plane, is superior in true-to-life realism, in comparison to FSX. That is remarkable for Xplane, which is apparently produced by just one individual with a reputation as a creative genius working out of his house.

Of course Prepare3D is in a league of its own, I hear tell, so more and more recently, I have been mulling over embarking on a foray into the world of Prepare3D. Anyways, enough rambling.

Blues skies to you brother man. Raise collective as the governor takes over, attain hover, tip the nose down, and climb out as you roll westbound.
