The battle of LZ Albany

The worst US defeat happened ironically just after the hard fought 7th Cav victory at the nearby LZ X ray on 14/11/65 on a successful search and destroy mission at the start of heavy open US involvement. Despite taking 80 KIA they destroyed the better part of the NVA 66th regiment killing 800+. 3 days later they stumbled off practically sleepwalking to another LZ,Albany less than 2 k away.

The enemy commander, Lt. Col. Nguyen Hu An, had kept one of the battalions of the 66th Regiment in reserve, and unbeknownst to the Americans that battalion was taking a lunch break just off the trail.

The North Vietnamese swiftly deployed along the left side of the column and prepared to attack. The weary Americans, who had had little or no sleep for the last three days and nights, had slumped to the ground where they had stopped. Some ate; some smoked; some fell asleep right there. Suddenly, enemy mortars exploded among the Americans signaling the NVA attack, and they charged through the tall grass and cut through the thin line of Cavalry troops strung out along the trail.

The Cav were trapped and ish got worse!

North Vietnamese machine gunners climbed on top of big termite mounds and opened up. Snipers were up in the trees. The fighting quickly disintegrated into hand-to-hand combat, and men were dying all around.

In the next six hours, McDade’s battalion would lose 155 men killed and 120 wounded.

An artillery liaison officer in a Huey overhead wanted desperately to call fire missions in support, but was helpless. All he could see was smoke rising through the jungle canopy. At the head of the column, McDade had no idea where most of his men were and was near-incoherent on the radio. The Americans trapped in the kill zone were on their own.

In this case the NVA were so close US forces couldn't immediately employ B 52s or arty as in LZ X ray earlier where BUFFS flew over 70 sorties. Later in the day their bombing runs killed friendlies and some of the estimated 400 NVA KIA.
Most importantly the LZ Albany battle showed the Viets how to negate the terrible US fire support.

This battle can be seen as a blueprint for tactics by both sides. The Americans used air mobility, artillery fire and close air support to accomplish battlefield objectives. [b]The NVA learned that they could neutralize that firepower by quickly engaging American forces at very close range. North Vietnamese Col. Nguyen Huu An included his lessons from the battle at X-ray in his orders for Albany, "Move inside the column, grab them by the belt, and thus avoid casualties from the artillery and air."[100] [/b]Both Westmoreland and An thought this battle to be a success. This battle was one of the few set piece battles of the war and was one of the first battles to popularize the U.S. concept of the "body count" as a measure of success, as the U.S. claimed that the kill ratio was nearly 10 to 1.[50]

Cav commander Hal Moore had the best observation on NVA fortitude.

Commenting later on the battle, Harold (Hal) G. Moore said, The "peasant soldiers [of North Vietnam] had withstood the terrible high-tech fire storm delivered against them by a superpower and had at least fought the Americans to a draw. By their yardstick, a draw against such a powerful opponent was the equivalent of a victory."

Foreign customers in need of new electronic warfare system, radar reconnaissance protection and suppression complexes, told reporters on Wednesday CEO of Concern "Radio-electronic technology" (KRET) Nikolai Kolesov. We were given permission to export :Ртути, Красухи-4, Москвы-1, Рычага our newest complexes. Rosoboronexport view the requirements for these systems today about $ 1.5 billion" he said.

Speaking of examples deliveries to foreign customers, Kolesov mentioned contract by about $ 80 million for Algeria and supplies to India for approximately $ 180 million . The total volume of exports KRET through Rosoboron export is about 200-300 million dollars per year.

Krasukha-4 is able to effectively shield objects on the ground against radio-locating surveillance satellites, ground-based radars, or aircraft-installed Airborne Warning and Control Systems ( AWACS ), a source with knowledge of the system told Izvestiya.
The protective jamming shield may span up to a 300-kilometer radius , he said.

Moreover, interference caused by Krasukha-4 will render radio-controlled missile attacks ineffective. The system has been designed to counter attacks from enemies possessing advanced technologies, the source added.
More specifically, the new Russian system has been described as a tool against “flying radars,” such as the USAF E-8 Joint STARS aircraft, or reconnaissance satellites - like the United States’ Lacrosse satellite - and a means of protection against surveillance and combat unmanned aerial vehicles, otherwise known as drones.
Media sources named the Northrop Grumman RQ-4 Global Hawk and the General Atomics MQ-1 Predator as drones which Krasukha-4 could guard ground objects and troops against.

ground-based electronic warfare (EW) "Moscow-1" for the Russian Defense Ministry. Newest complex using modern digital technology allows allows you to scan the airspace and detect targets equipped with radioactive elements and enemy projectiles thanks to the passive radar, it picks their radio waves, and then transmits the data to other EW systems, air defense and air force to neutralize and destroy targets.
The complex "Moscow-1" module is included 1L265E intelligence control station and 1L266E airborne radar jammers, which are mounted in three cars KAMAZ. Complex is able to see at a distance of 400 km, effectively operates at temperatures from -40 to +50 degrees Celsius, and its range covers 360 degrees. The crew of "Moscow-1" consists of only 4 persons, while it takes 45 minutes to deploy.

Multifunctional complex "Mercury-BM" is designed to protect personnel and equipment from artillery shells and rockets equipped with different types of radio controlled fuses. In addition, the complex is used for jamming communication and radar systems. Complex "Mercury-BM" designed and manufactured at the enterprises KRET since 2011. "Mercury-BM" is one of the most advanced EW systems, protecting personnel and equipment on the territory of 50 hectares. The system is mounted on a light armored crawler. A crew of two people, and the deployment of the complex does not exceed 10 minutes.

hypothetically speaking......

1.maybe for comparative evaluations with local EW systems
2.maybe component level TOT for integration with local EW systems
3.maybe cross-system integration via TOT at modular level with local EW systems

officially there is no info on such deals with kret

as fas i am concerned chances r deal was for TOT only for absorption and modification into local systems, it is difficult to hide foreign military procurements in ind... except those related to strategic systems and those relating to TOT

hence pics might be hard to come by

but i could be wrong atleast open source info is not available.

presently there r orders running into 2+ billion dollars for local EW systems

and i am pretty sure Algeria herself is modifying the said systems , to ensure foolproof effectiveness, such things r never mentioned .

EW systems r best used as a surprise element with high level of ambiguity in terms of capability and effectiveness.
