kimbraa: madam what are you saying how is this assignment meant for high school student, because of the use of the word 'exhibit' and the vocabularies please go and search about reading and writing proficiency test in grade 2 and educate yourself. you people are attacking the poster who is right. when I hear my 5 year old niece in the us speak I can't help but admire her use of words and vocabulary 1 Like |

collinsebuka:That assignment isn't meant for a primary one pupil in Nigeria. It's not even found anywhere in their curriculum. Again, in the US, their first language is English language that's why a kid over there is more grounded in English than some of us, so quit the comparison. 7 Likes |

kidman96:I quite agree with you, most people here think the world is still the way it was when they were in primary school. I am an educator, where I teach, our pupils from primary one to five are given project topics, they make research, compile the results then defend it in school. You need to see this children talk while defending their projects, I cannot but envy them because the first time I stood to defend project was at the university, I was so jittery which wouldn't have happened if I had such opportunity as these children. Although groomed by their parents on given topics, the aim is to build their level of confidence, and whatever topics they are given to do research on will forever be part of them. 2 Likes |

hakeem4: That question is far beyond the comprehension of a child in primary 1,the teacher seems not to have the required skills/ training for the job, A primary 1 pupil should be learning things like: 1,Simple Arithmetic)multiplication, minus ,division, multiplication tables 2'Basic English:words and spelling, words and opposite and simple sentence construction The.school management needs serious.overhaul 3 Likes |

MRAKBEE:I doubt they have their own curriculum but they usually go overboard virtually with everything. Everything in this country is upside-down. I know of some primary schools in PH that uses Cambridge standard to teach. So whatever Nigerian schools are doing is contrary to what they do, even their closing dates are different. Yet, these schools that uses Cambridge standard don't stress the child and teachers are scrutinised, I worked in one years back but was a non-academic staff. I know what I'm saying. Some private school teachers don't know what to teach these kids. 2 Likes |

Fine. There were some typographical errors. other than that. the questions are not really difficult. with the advent of the internet. it shouldn't be a challenge. A little research won't hurt, either from the parents or the internet. That's why it's called "homework" |
Re: See Assignment Given To A Primary 1 Pupil by Nobody: 9:53am On Sep 23, 2017 |
collinsebuka:Let me explain this your English of a thing once more to you, and relate that to how kids are taught in America. Our first language isn't English, but theirs is English. When you were born; your parents were communicating with you in your Native dialect. That's your first language. Could be Hausa, Yoruba or Igbo. Then in school, you'll be taught English so you could read and write while a child in America whose first language is English; that's, as they're born the first words their parents use in communicating with them is English Language, what they teach them later is how to spell these words they already know correctly. If you've read "Gifted Hands" by Ben Carson he did mention of some vocabulary classes where he spelt some words correctly as at when he could read, he spoke English fluently but he was an illiterate 'cause he couldn't spell what he was speaking. He explained that. A kid in America would use words that even you as an adult in Nigeria doesn't know the meaning and the reason for that is because that's the child's language unlike you who's learning it. This explains why you were shocked at your little niece in US who spoke fluent English. 2 Likes |
