Rotimi O. Sekoni, is the founder and CEO of OWPPiN Limited, a wood , paper and pulp platform focused on producing high quality wood derived products in Nigeria, for local and global consumption. He also owns Baton Nigeria, an SME firm that manufactures beautifully finished toothpicks for the local and international market.

The company produces the well-packaged Baton Toothpicks, which are sold nationwide in supermarkets, hypermarts, retail outlets, etc. The company also supplies hotels, restaurants, hospitality outlets and catering outfits with their products. It is also fast becoming popular among suya sellers and barbecue joints.

When the Central Bank Nigeria, CBN, blocked official dollar access to importers of 41 low-skilled items, Baton Nigeria, an Ogun state-based company, was preparing to start a factory producing tooth picks – one of the items on CBN’s list. By August 2016 when the company’s production lines had kicked off, the policy had been in place for a year.

Now, with 43 staff per shift, Baton produces about 60 million sticks of toothpick per month. It aims at producing 4 billion each per year, by end of 2018.

“Our product is about 25 per cent cheaper than that of the Chinese, our main competition, although we consider our quality top of the range,” said Rotimi Sokeni, chairman of Baton.

The company’s smallest dispensers costs less than N100, while a pack of 250 sticks go for less than N200. With about N300, one can take the mega size of 700 sticks.

“We set out with the idea to ultimately get to a point where Nigeria could stop importation of wood, paper and pulp products by employing locally available ‘wood’ as raw materials to produce a basket of high quality, cost effective products for import substitution and export,” Mr. Sekoni said. http://jimidisu.com/premiumtimes-special-report-how-nigerian-companies-raked-billions-after-cbn-switched-off-dollar-tap-on-41-items/

The CEO says he was motivated to go into the business for various reasons.

"The ability to create jobs in manufacturing in Nigeria. I love the process of making things, so we thought there was an opportunity to make beautiful, cost-effective products in Nigeria....with Nigerian hard work and ingenuity.

What has been the challenges so far?
Nothing material actually or unique to us. A lot of people want to hear horror stories about doing business in Nigeria, it's just business, which is rough and tumble anywhere in the world...sorry to disappoint.

What is the best thing a client ever said to you?
That every time she sees our products she can't help but smile." https://web.facebook.com/nigerianshowcase/posts/110785556264420:0?_rdc=1&_rdr

Majority of these companies have their headquarters in Lagos. Potor contribution to Lagos is negligible. They don't control Telecommunications, oil, banking, hospitality, media, manufacturing, real estate, tech. Their major contribution to Lagos is trade. Trade isn't what makes Lagos lol.

They make noise all the time about ports, but aren't even the largest contributors to port revenues. These are the highest revenue generating items being imported

Refined petroleum- 15% ($7.83-billion)
Cars- 3.4% ($1.75-billion)
Wheat - 2.8% ($1.46-billion)
Packaged medicaments - 1.4% ($752-million)
Rice - 1.4% ($706-million)
Concentrated Milk - 1.3% ($679-million)
Raw Sugar - 1.3% ($668-million)
Malt extract- 0.84% ($441-million)

Besides, Lagos doesn't even earn a dime of her port revenues. Everything goes to the FG. See, the easiest way to deal with potor is to show them facts as we've done on this thread. Potor don't deal with facts, they like pulling out figures from their asses. It's always 75% or 80% lol . If you aren't armed with facts, it's very easy to fall for their lies. I blame the poor state of education in Yorubaland for this. They lie about everything to mask their innate inferiority complex.

I know there are some Yorubas that hype them to pacify them cos civil war. That is destructive because it gets to a point where they start believing these things and actually taking them as facts. It's upon us to put them on check. The Yorubas who engage in that bullshit should also be called out

This thread is SEXY!

You nail it.good one there.

Amo Byng popularly known as Amo Sanders was established in the late 80s. It's one of the largest poultry farms and feed mills in Nigeria, bigger than any other one from the South East. Check them out

Amo Byng Nigeria Limited was established in 1987 to produce high quality Feed Concentrates, and Finished feeds. We supply our products to farmers all over the country and in West Africa. Our main objective is to operate a state-of-the-art Feed mill that will consistently provide the best quality products available in Nigeria
https://amobyng.com.ng/new/index.php/about-us/

The company Amo Byng was said to have been re-established following the bankruptcy of a French Group call Amo Sanders. By 2002, promoters of Amo Sanders, which was then owned by a French multinational, were tired of Nigeria and they decided to sell these companies. Dr. Ayoola Oduntan, had the opportunity to be there at the time and he bought what was left of it.
https://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2016/06/19/one-of-the-factory-workers-bagging-the-feeds/

Oduntan renamed it Amo Byng Nigeria Limited, and expanded it to include Amo Farm Sieberer Hatchery Limited. He also owns another company known as Natnudo Foods Limited. Oduntan, a veterinary doctor, who is also the President of the Poultry Association of Nigeria, (PAN), said the local poultry sector has the capacity to produce and meet the poultry demands that will arise from the new government policy of home-grown school feeding programme.

CHIEF FESTUS FADEYI:

PAN OCEAN OIL CORPORATION (NIGERIA) LIMITED & NEWCROSS GROUP APPOINT SUNMONU, EX-SHELL CHAIR AS EXECUTIVE CONSULTANT
Lagos, Nigeria – The boards of Pan Ocean Oil Corporation (Nigeria) Limited (“Pan Ocean”) and Newcross Group of Companies (“Newcross”), have announced the appointment of Mr. Mutiu Sunmonu, immediate past Managing Director & Nigeria Country Chair for Shell in Nigeria as Executive Consultant to the Board.

Commenting on the appointment, the Chairman of both boards, Dr. Festus Fadeyi said, “We are extremely pleased to have the opportunity to benefit from the unique experiences of a world class professional like Mr. Sunmonu as Executive Consultant. We look forward to utilizing his deep knowledge and insight to take Newcross and its subsidiaries to greater heights and nurture it as an efficient energy conglomerate.”

In his role as Executive Consultant to the Board, Mr. Sunmonu will provide strategic advice and help propel these companies to achieving their mission as the world class energy companies in sub-Saharan Africa.

Mr. Sunmonu brings on board more than 30 years of knowledge and expertise in the oil and gas sector. He graduated from the University of Lagos with a first class degree in Mathematics and Computer Science.

Until his retirement from Shell, Mr Mutiu Sunmonu served as the Country Chair and Managing Director of the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited. Prior to that, he served in various executive management positions in Shell Nigeria and other locations in Europe as well as the Shell headquarters at The Hague, Netherlands.

Great work. I think someone spoke about Asiko Energy on page 209 of this thread. I didn't even know they had so many Yoruba people on their board.

Education is somewhat lazy in Nigeria and that is why it is grossly unproductive. It is not interactive, not practical, not educative, not emulative, not liberating. There was a Nigerian professor,a head of department of computer science in one of the western state universities that couldn't demonstrate with a computer in court to give evidence. He was not able to log on to a computer, yet,he heads a computer science department.

Nigerian education system is as mythological as the story of father Christmas to children, unreal and magically enthusing .
