Despite yesterday's event, imagine all powerful EU couldn't talk nor condemn the violence. Is one thing to vote for a referendum and is another thing for the referendum to be recognize by world bodies and agency.

which other justification do they need.the evidence is everywhere.. That what I always tell my Ipob friends.No country give a damn about your agitation for independence or referendum because they know that if they support you to secceed, the thing must surely hunt them tomorrow.

This is about a union though, not individual nations. There must have been closed door debates on whether or not or the right time to interfere.

If I support any endeavors for independence at all then in Africa, for the simple reason that the existing borders have been put up by European powers and not African peoples. The situation in and history of Europe is an entirely different one. I think that Catalans were wrong in going for a referendum, which was against the constitution. Spain is a functioning democracy, they had other options. That does not mean that Rajoy is right, far from it.

Having said that, I want to mention that N.Kanu is a fo.ol. He needs to educate himself first before misleading people. Imagine he put up the Israeli and US American flag at his podiums and made people think that the US and Israel will support Biafra. Do Israelis support Palestinian endeavors for self-determination? And Trump just said that he wants Catalans to remain in Spain.

The f.oolish Kanu has neither ever heard of the principle of territorial integrity, which is part of international law, and states that nation-states should not attempt to promote secessionist movements or to promote border changes in other nation-states. This is one of the reasons why other EU members will remain quiet on Catalonian strive for independence and the police violence that followed the referendum.

Some of you are grossly misinformed but I can understand why.

Catalonia had always been a distinct republic since the 15th century but they were conquered by the king of Spain.

The Catalan independence movement started in 1922. In 1931, they formed a party which had a dramatic victory in the municipal elections. They proclaimed a Catalan Republic but after negotiations with the Spanish Republic, they accepted autonomy within the Spanish state.

But in 1938, General Franco unilaterally abolished this Catalan autonomy, without recourse to the binding agreements both sides had in 1931. Thus the psychic fuel that engendered the Catalan agitation.

It got worse. To make their injustice legal, the 2006 Statute of Autonomy, which had been agreed between the Spanish government and Catalonia, was challenged in the Spanish High Court, which ruled that some of the articles were unconstitutional or were to be interpreted restrictively. Yes, the agreements the Spanish government willingly signed to was now challenged by the Spanish government and deemed unconstitutional by the Spanish court.

A systematic emasculation of the Catalonian people with it's attendant implications.
