It is always more convenient to build during the dry season, especially where raft foundations or substructures are concerned.

Although I am not a professional, but I will say No.
If you have your money there is no such thing, only rain disturbs in Naija but if you are not doing outside work you could be doing interior work. My personal view.

Convenient season, Yes.

In other 'News' l remembered we discussed this issue of having your own guns to protect yourself as it happens in America.

Some like me, felt that allowing everyone to own guns will not help in the long run.
I felt what we need to do is strengthen our Security Forces to be able to cope with any 'emergency'.

This brings me to the event that happened Yesterday in Mandalay bay, in Las Vegas.
The summary of it was that a man checked into a Hotel with as much as TEN high Calibre, Rapid Fire Rifles.
He shot and killed at least 50 people, with over 400 others with gunshot wounds (some in critical condition)!

This raises the question again: Is easy access to guns and proliferation of guns a positive thing, in the "wider picture" of things?
If Gun was readily and easily accessible in Nigeria, will it do more harm (like this event), than good, moreso in the areas of Home Owners protecting themselves.

Or is there a middle ground

Heh. The only thing egunmogaji like pass unprotected with fatiha na gun. cheesy

Okay that makes sense.

I was thinking also about all the religious holidays and things that we don’t deal with here.

What month does dry season start and ends?

Thanks.
Re: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by Timtol(m): 6:53pm On Oct 02, 2017
Gotten!
Dry season is less cost.
Was it around July wen we r on site.
The place is in bush n the erosion there was high so it but b handled with care.
As the prjts proceed,a goitre was needed and that's what we did first as the client want.
Their will we must obey.
There r many times we get off from work cos of rain, staying under a roofed but not completed house close to d site,u will see this on a thread of mine.
Sometimes we have to leave.
So by all means we must not leave some things cos if it rain it will spoil the day work so the work must reach some certain point b4 it can b left.
So,see all this.
To build in that type of season u kw it really disturbs.
Now consider some swamp site where raft foundation is needed, the work done there will eat up the money like anything.
But according to Egun,I support.

i normally create a project schedule template at the beginning of the year with public holidays as off days

to be frank though, the only holiday that is 100% guaranteed in teh construction industry is end of year xmas . most other holidays can be negotiated somewhat in my own experience

My worry is actually about the "Nigerian environment", some gun-loving psychos over there who hang unto their guns can can reap the reward of their actions.

One needs to learn from the mistakes of others ....especially now that Religious Holidays have started affecting so much, when one can build. grin grin

Would that shooter have easily killed over 50 and maim over 400, if he does not have unrestricted access to guns, especially such high calibre guns?

I mean, the guy has Ten Automatic Rifles in his possession!

But I just don’t see how any one will make such an offer of loan, unless I’m not reading it correctly.

Now, I can see an entrepreneur setting something up and then hiring folks. But to just hand out money? Okay o.

I will say Yes and No.

Yes there's a building season in Nigeria, the dry season. Many roads are dry and passable and bushes burn. You can move into a remote site and start up a development without fear of terrible roads or additional cost of clearing the bushes.
In the south east part of Nigeria, there's always a rush to erect new buildings and renovate or maintain old houses as the dry season starts. This is because men who plan to return to the villages for Christmas and new years holidays start to prepare new buildings or renew old ones. This mad rush starts in October and drags till new year. Building materials prices has been known to rise astronomically within this building season. Workers are mostly busy and houses will be rising everywhere. It usually looks like a big building competition which the people returning for holidays will move round the towns to compare designs.

No, there's no building season in Nigeria (as my Oga Hajj has said.) When you get your money, you can build irrespective of the season. Also because there is no weather conditions here that can stop a building site for an extended period of time. We have bathed in rain water in over 30 building sites, used nylon sheets to cover our fresh blocks and even stood under the hot sun to work for hours. But you have to be built tough to survive in this field, and we can work the holidays, we can do day and night, as long as your pay is good grin
