Very simple, just pronounce it illegal and anybody caught will loose his certificate.
I will wait for the details but pronouncing private practice by medical doctors in public service is such a bad move. What is reasonable is to ban private practice by medical doctors in public service during working hours.

How can you pay me poorly and stop me from using my skills to earn extra income during my free period?

What about pharmacist who own their pharmaceutical shops, lab scientist running private labs, nurses running maternity homes etc....

They might die, do you how terrible these government hospitals are and how these health workers generally especially resident doctors are treated? During ebola virus time, there was no single drop or flu water in the pediatrics ward of one of the largest government hospital in the country a d the doctors still had to work. Have you seen surgeons doing surgery with torches? I personally know a doctor who was owed 11months salary and she was the only doctor attending to patients in a primary health center in one of the southwestern states.

Doctors in pediatrics and neuro surgery unit doing one week call(it means they work the whole week no going home) and after one evil government will refuse to pay them.
Do you know that many of them direct patients from government hospitals to their private hospitals? This is a good decision

angry angry angry angry The stupid doctors engaging in private practice while working in government hospitals abuse it hence i support an enabling law to fire any doctor owing private clinic while working for government.

its either you do private practice or goverment nt both
Then every civil servant should be ban from engaging in private business.

What is illegal is engaging in private practice during working hours. You can't stop someone from using his skills to earn extra income during his free time just because he is employed by government.

Say I am a doctor, govt pay me 450k/ month for working like a slave, I do a single thyroidectomy at a private hospital and I get 150k if I manage to do 2 or 3in a month I've earned my government salary tell me which one u go choose. More doctors will just go abroad or into private practice there is already shortage it will only get worse with this new law
Re: FG To Ban Private Practice By Doctors In Public Service by Agboola321(m): 5:18pm On Oct 11, 2017
Government should increase the salaries of these doctors then. FG no sabi wetin those guys dey pass through. If you improve their working condition I believe they'd have no reason to open a private hospital.

Its already against the medical ethics to run a concurrent private practise while in the public service. But let's wait out the finer details though
It is only illegal if one runs the private clinic during working hours. Check MDCN code of ethics.

Is it possible to Ban it? Many of them do it in secrecy,so it is almost impossible to detect such doctors, except the Whistle blowing act extends to defaulting doctors at well.
At times, they dont attend to their patients properly but rather refer them to the private hospital they own or work with.

Certainly, there would be conflict of interest.

Even Teachers are banned from doing "private lessons" after school hours, for same reason

Just go and do that in a Private Company and see how quickly you get terminated.

This is an issue that is clearly stated in MDCN's codes of ethics for medical and dental practioners. I don't know what the Minister is trying to achieve by misleading Nigerians and the FEC.

You see trouble for ground... The federal gov. did not ask why some of this doctors are doing double work. Abeg who like work? Fed gov. Well the federal gov. should saddle up for attended salary increase strike. Na 150k/month doctors wan dey take survive?
Re: FG To Ban Private Practice By Doctors In Public Service by LupusMinor(m): 5:39pm On Oct 11, 2017
Na today?! No be one road dey enter market. This one way salary no dey regular and even when regular, it is short. In some states like Osun, doctors haven't been paid for almost a year... angry

Same decision should be applied to other non-medical staff. Last I checked, this cuts across all disciplines and not restricted to medical doctors alone.
thank u my sister, in as Much as i know some drs tend to their private practice at d expense of their govt appointment, This doesn't illegalize p.p. as govt has no say in what u do after ur work hrs or at ur leisure/weekends
what the govt need to do is to checkmate the activities of every public worker; medical(esp. D consultants), other health workers, and non health workers, and penalize them adequately.
I can see a lot of hate comments from people who I know belong to johesu association, this issue is not limited to d drs alone, so don't be too happy, cos if this was abt salary increase for d drs u won't be this happy, instead u'll be clamouring for inclusion/same pay or indefinate strike. Stop making ur association name sound like 'jo-hates-you' instead of johesu.
For the govt, I think a ban on every top public official e.g His excellency presido from going on med tourism for simpl/tropical illnesses, will go a long way in developing our health sector.
and to the neutral citizens so quick in passing verdict, should try and get a copy of med. ethics & read thoroughly in order not to make a biased judgment.
and to all, myself included, STOP HATING, don't hate what u can't be, cos one day u might be at the mercy of those u so much hate.

Ignorance is a disease.

I have close friends who are doctors who also run the same parole of government work and private practice.

Many of them have specific says or time they are available in the private clinic. They hire doctors to see thier patients and gather them for group consultations.

The issue of diverting patients is thrash cos many hospitals lack the facilities required for adequate healthcare .

Even aso rock doesn't have syringe talkers of govt hospital. It's really a waste but if it's privatised many people would suffer as they won't be able to afford healthcare and aren't willing to pay for health insurance if they aren't sick.

Attitudinal change is needed.

Hypocrisy!!! The same minister operated a private clinic while he was a consultant at UCH Ibadan
It wasn't banned then, and is yet to be banned even now.

Good move by FG. They use to create bottleneck in government hospital in other to refer patient to their private hospital.
This isn't true. It hardly happens if at all... Do not generalise it.

This government is sick and stupid... Policy makers playing with policies exercising strength in areas where it isn't needed at the moment. Na experiment? What stops them from developing these hospitals by improving existing systems/structures employing specialist and ensuring their time in and out are logged electronically and used in calculating salaries... Sick policy maker. I'm not a doctor but fvck them all.

This propose ban is of utmost importance as Doctors in government hospital will now stay put to do their instead of abandoning it for their private hospital....God bless Nigeria for this

So Doctors who have been on half salary in Osun state for close to 20 months if not more should starve to death abi? No wonder quite a lot of them are relocating abroad, soon there will be no one to man those places they call general hospitals.
Re: FG To Ban Private Practice By Doctors In Public Service by johnjames2009: 9:27pm On Oct 11, 2017
once you are not a doctor, your thought become less pleomorphic and more pathologic whenever they are palpated. there is nothing bizarre about the purported ban. There are papillae of hospital components that need to be banned also to restore sanity. Making it monodermal is carcinomatous degeneration whose etiology may well be drawn from plexuses of hospital staff whose innervation is ophthalmologically drawn from protean pattern and abnormal anastomosis. or it may well be diversionary from FG point. to create phobia.

but the cortical matter they are stimulating will see it to the end. everyone has right to his own opinion. welcome development though. The heart will do its part, the vessels will do their bit.

In Egypt the Government actually encourages them to do private practice. Pls NL it is not the people that own private practice that go on strike. It consultants that do and they actually dont mind resigning to focus on their private practice which earns them more than 4times what Govt pays. Anyway make me sef come dey check out canada, I honestly didn't want to join the brain drain but with irrelevant decisions like these I hv no choice. Only JOHESU members will be here shouting good move
