Try to be matured next time. Maturity, even pretended maturity, will look good on you.

Happy Birthday sir. Wish you good health even as you age on gracefully.
But sir, you planted the current structure of governance in Nigeria on 27th May, 1967. In your thoughts then, you wanted to stop all forms of agitations and promote ONE Nigeria. But has not actually worked well as you thought sir. The more reason you should champion the course of restructuring our blessed country Nigeria with a view to ensuring that the labour of our heroes past will not be in vain sir.
I believe God kept you alive to see that the country is at variance with your initial thoughts so as to do your best to Champion a course of restructuring the country on the basis of equity, justice and fairness to all parties.
Long live sir!
Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!!

Gowon's timidity and lack of character and principles led to the civil war. Gowon encouraged the genocidal massacre of more than 60,000 Igbos in cold blood in Northern Nigeria. Now his people are still being killed by those who used him to sustain this shithole called Nigeria.

There were 2 problems. Killing of Igbos in the North was one. No 2, Ojukwu was senior to Gowon and would never take orders from his junior. But the Hausa/Fulani have had a long history of disregard for principles and standing due process on its head. They forced Gowon as the head of the Supreme Military council. Ojukwu laughed at their stupidity but didn't want war.

He and Ojukwu went to Aburi in Ghana at the behest of the international community's mediatory efforts in a bid to hold a round table meeting to avert the war. Sincere agreements were reached and so the Aburi accord was signed. Confederation of the various units and resource and territorial control with a weaker administrative center.

If Nigeria had stood by the Aburi accord, we would have been 100 times richer than we are now.

What did the block head do? Immediately he came back, he reneged on the agreement he signed the previous day. Thereby creating a point of no return by both parties.

As part of the Aburi accord, igbo soldiers in the North were to be allowed to come back to the east with their weapons while nothern soldiers in the SE were to be allowed to go back with their weapons. The SE complied in good faith but the North collected the weapons of the Igbo soldiers, lined ghem up against a wall and executed all of them. Their bodies were sent back in trucks and train cargo cabins.

Gowon's lack of the character required for leadership of the military is the reason why Nigeria can never, and will never be one. His place in history is assured. They say he kept Nigeria as one but I say he consolidated the Norths right to assist the British in plundering southern resouces; their right to refuse education and maintain the lowest cut off marks in Africa; their rights to still come and insist on ruling without certificates and kill the merit system.

We love deceiving ourselves in Nigeria. It's a way of life. Let me tell you, Nigeria is not progressing in any way. Nigeria, Malaysia and South Korea are contemporaries. Dubai of the UAE was founded in 1971. 11 years after "we started ruling ourselves". And here in 2017, we are still looking for restructuring. Nigerians are funny! Isn't it the same restructuring that was in the Aburi Accord? We are still talking about missing billions of dollars and Fulanis supported and protected by government to kill other Nigerians. What a shame!

As long as Nigeria remains 1 with the inclusion of the North, there will never be progress. Mark my words. They don't want to make progress. That's why they will forever hold on to lowest cut off marks. But they want to continue ruling. Can you give what you don't have

We need to go back to regionalism. Every region develop at your own pace and fund yourselves. No region should be allowed to use their illiteracy and willful backwardness, and unwillingness to work hard and succeed to drag others back.

Restructure now or divide Nigeria. There is no future for Nigeria as presently structured.

You would have been better celebrated had you averted the 1967-70 massacre of the civil war. Perhaps the majority would have been in their 60s. Anyways, let bye gone be bye gone. Happy birthday.

Gowon may you remain blessed for ever. May your days be long, and your life be peaceful. May God Almighty protect and preserve you and your family, every single day. Thank you Gowon, for putting an end to Ojukwu's boasts, and making him flee from the warfront. You kept Nigeria together at a critical period, when selfish interests threatened its existence. May God continue to keep you in good health and prosperity. Amen!

Nigeria on brink of total collapse – Christian lawmakers

ABUJA-Christian lawmakers, yesterday, painted a gloomy picture of Nigeria, said it was on the verge of total collapse.

They also lamented that the delivery of public values has ceased to be the essence of governance as Nigerians could barely access basic social necessities. According to them, these challenges have shaken the very foundation of faith of Nigerians in the leadership.

One major mistake he made was to sit tight in office instead of carrying out free and fair elections and getting the hell out!

If he was sincere he would have handed over power to civilians ASAP once the war was over. He sat tight for another SIX YEARS until Muritala chased him out.

Gowon is alive and after being used for the dirty job of the war, his people are being rewarded with death on a daily basis. Ojukwu stood his groun and taught the Fulanis a bitter lesson that still evokes fear, nay, trepidation at the mention of Biafra or Igbo unity. Igbos will never be killled in cold blood without consequences. But even Olu Falae can't go to farm again because of the Fulanis and his people cannot do jack about it. Haha.

Nigerians suffer from selective amnesia. We only remember what serves our interests at that particular time.

We care not for history and so blindly repeat the same poo over and over.

If not for oil "boom", Gowon's rule had nothing much going for it. In fact, his administration oversaw the gradual death of other sectors in favour of oil.

Yakubu Gowon was a disgrace of a man who caused civil war by not keeping to the terms of the Aburi agreement he signed in Ghana.

He then fought a war to make his fellow Notherners masters of Nigeria.

The man was a disgrace to the uniform he wore.

Go and sit down. The Ojukwu that boasted that even the grass would rise and fight, was the first one to hop on a plane and abscond to Ivory Coast, after leading over 3 million of his people to their death. He initiated a war he couldn't win, and at the end of the day he fled. Thank God for people like Effiong, who stepped up to put an end to the war. Ojukwu will forever be remembered as a coward who not only ran away, but also came back to cosy up to the same Hausa Fulani people, who had earlier dealt with his own people during the war. He became so close to the Hausa Fulani that he chose to contest on the platform of their party. What a betrayal.
