That is why the wise thing is to fix this situation. Your children must speak English only and must form like a Whiteman. What relevance as it brought to our people? we only end up with bunch of confused unsociable kids who behave like agric chickens and can not fit else where except for whitemans land where they are hardly recognised. No wonder many of them want to come back home by all means. Mine is let us eschew all this fetish practices and develop our language so that all other people of the world can benefit from its reach cultural tapestry. Yoruba scholars the challenge is up to you all to development means to achieve this through research and development and make people proud to use approprate, clean, clear and correct Yoruba in their daily activities. Lobatan.

.....the lingua franca should be promoted and not a tribes language..no special laws should be allowed to grow geometrically...if the people feel it's very important to them..then they should pass it on to generations through the families..but to mk any language a state law..is nonsense..you are dividing nigeria the more..you people are fast coming after me cuz of the narrow mindedness being taught you guyz by your parents...
Parents? We will come back to that. Hindu is the lingua franca of India spoken predominantly in North India but going to south india Tamil is used to teach their children in school. And has that decreased their integration?

It's very entertaining albeit exciting to say the least, the subtle move with which the new generation of Yoruba leaders are tightening their grips over Lagos.

The era of mumu political correctness is over, of recent we've seen the statue of Chief Awolowo commissioned, the acceptance of Lagos into Odua Group, and now the Yoruba Language Bill.

For those of you that'll convulse over these news accept my humble condolences, it appears that the Yorubas have taken over the 'No Man's Land'.

the land was always ours right from time.

What's your point here? I think very soon you must be made to understand what it means when they say, "do in Rome as the Romans do" I think the last time I checked this apply as well in Yoruba Land. Expatriate ko oyinbo ni. this silly expatriate coinage is one of those rubbish thing Yoruba will correct there are many sons and daughters of the soil doing better abroad that are the true expatriates that will be encouraged to come home when everthing is in place. this is not inordinate Kanu republic, so gbo. No amount of gibberish you spewing will stop this Act, it can only get better by the day. It either you comply or ship out no one needs your type in Yoruba land. Lobatan.

Sir, regional law for example catalunya speak their indigenous language. I think u are getting the news wrong. The news said THE YORUBA LANGUAGE WILL BE MADE COMPULSORY IN SCHOOLS, it is not saying biology should be taught in YORUBA. Sciences and commercial will learn the language compared to the new education law where Indigenous language is studied by Arts students. Our indigenous language should even be used to teach us in schools by that way we will reduce illiteracy, illiteracy is predominant in the Northern region cause the English is alien to them. In teach them in Hausa and Arabic and see change if subjects are to be taught in Yorùbá, it will start with the fresh intakes. Let us embrace our differences don't shove it under the carpet, with that we can grow

There is even a law in Britain that you must learn English before you are allowed into Britain.

As much as we are trying to unite all tribes in Nigeria, we must never forget we are different ethnic nations in a big country called Nigeria. So if you are living and schooling in Yoruba Land you must learn the language for integration.

I had a friend back then in the Uni at Abeokuta, who was always complaining all the market women speak Yoruba and he needed me to go with him to the market, if had a course teaching him Yoruba he would have been able to better integrate and communicate effectively.

We won't say because we have English as our official language we will now drop our indigenous languages for English. Even South Africa has adopted all their indigenous languages as official language along side Dutch and English.

You are the one that needs to be smart here, how can you tag Delta state a western region because one tribe from there has some sort of link with Yoruba. Don't mind me but can you listen to yourself a bit? if I want to learn any language in Nigeria then it would be Hausa, at least I can use it to collect contract from Abuja tongue

Sebi you want to deny that yorubas exist in delta state. Fool yourself not us.

Some problems will arise here though.
1. Insufficient teachers
2. Doesn't this cause some inconsistency with WAEC which gives stidents a chance to choose? Perhaps they intend to make it compulsory in class but when applying for WAEC, students can drop it but it will increase the workload of students
3. In Unis, it should not carry any unit but it must be passed.

My thoughts anyway

The problem of insufficient teachers creates the opportunity of job openings to would-be teachers.

WAEC and the LASG Ministry of Education will work out ways to comply with the law eventually.

In Unis and other tertiary institutions, it should carry at least 1 unit and can be a bonus to serious students as most GNS course are structured to be passed by the typical average student.

These said, I am always up for promotion of indigenous languages and history because if you don't promote your-story, you will fall for HIS-tory.

Tell them, it is this same silly people that want to break up Nigeria in the Name of Biafra. They are only Nigerian when it suits them, when its convenient and enrich them but will not wink an eye to destroy the fabric that hold the nation together at any short notice. So after Nigeria fades away courtesy of the children of potopoto land, Yorubas must be left with nothing to show for their Nigerian misadventure abi? I think these corrupt people from alabiabia must be make to shot up where real people are talking. Lobatan.

Sir I don't know how you think ooo. Spain is a multi lingua nation, India is multilingua likewise Nàìjíríà. Spain uses madrid language at the centre (spanish) Catalunya uses catalan use the they use Visça Catalunya rather than vamos catalunya. Hindu is spoken at the centre a language in North India but however the south Indians kept their language which is Tamil. Now come here u said they were not forced, the language used in teaching in schools in Italy, Spain, Catalunya, India and Tamil are Italian, spanish, catalan, Hindu and Tamilian as an expatriate who wants to school in Italy, Spain, Catalunya must learn the indigenous language so as to be able to acquire knowledge same way expatriate in Yorùbá should learn the language for better integration into the society.
