bigpicture001:Mister, I think you're over exaggerating your intelligence, Lagos state as mandated yoruba language which is symbol of her cultural heritage to be taught in schools within its boundary, Lagos state never proclaimed that this indigenous language-Yoruba should usurp the role of the national lingua franca- English, the state didn't veto that pupils will be killed if they fail the subject, the state's concern is that it must be taught in schools. Expatriates or not, when you migrate into a new geocultural zone different from yours, you should be ready to abide with the laws of the land, all your rants and rigmarole over the issue won't stop the law from taking effect, if yourself and family members are living within the state and unhappy about it, kindly relocate to wherever you'll be given the chance to dictate the laws in which you'd love to abide . |

This's the best law so far passed by any Nigerian state. A people must be able to speak their own language before any other. However, I think they should've gone a step further and require "credit" on it. This would make students and teachers take it serious, and not just a subject to complete their exam. |

See my reaction in blue Mynd44:Finally, what you've just put up are challenges along the way. The overarching objective still subsist. If we want to preserve and promote our heritage, our history and posterity, foothold and power.....then issues of WAEC, grades etc are inconsequential to the big picture |

bigpicture001:if you live in Lagos the language concerns you. If you don't like it live. Lagos is not England. This is just the beginning Go to Quebec or Bruge to educate yourself better |

bigpicture001:I think your upbringing needs questioning for you to opine that I'm a tribalist and with your snide remarks to my parents, you definitely don't want to go down such lane with me. That aside, how does the mandatory teaching of Yoruba in Lagos hinder the unity of Nigeria, Lagos as part of Yoruba land wants to preserve its cultural heritage by enforcing its language on her denizens, hereby making sure their imported languages will not erode the influence of Yoruba language in the state. Lest I forget I don't give a fvck if you're Ibo or not, what caught my attention was your puerile and weak critical thinking skills. |

bigpicture001:Kindly explain how this works against unity. Does this not happen in other countries? research and inform yourself. In New Zealand,India,Canada and Belgium to name a few. It is only the totally and irredeemably colonized that would say what you say. So what should we do? watch out language die out? can we really speak English?even our elite prefer pidgin socially and that is the problem. We have not been able to develop colloquial forms that we are comfortsble with. So our language dies and our English is not great. Yes we may write well but there is still not a Nigerian English that we speak comfortably and so on our radios you hear all kinds of silly accents these days. It is a disgrace How many English songs do we have that unite us. The truth is English is killing us spiritually and culturally Listen to Fela https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvK9fiA6uPY My vision is that our children will speak and write at least 2 and possibly 3 Nigerian languages. That means vision policies and plans. Your Non-vision is our children should read and write only English Is it not a shame that Chinua Achebe's Things Fall Apart is translated to several languages but no Nigerian language.I don't even know if it is availablle in Igbo And then when they meet real English people staart copying their accent |

baysol:I have a 9yr old son that struggles to speak and comprehend Yoruba. It bothers me a lot. Basic things like "alubosa", "Igbale" etc he will ask you what does that mean? In 5-6yrs time, we will ship him abroad (he has said it in unmistakable terms that he's going to flying school), then what? If we are not careful, we have raised a man that will have no identity or cultural heritage.Meritocracy: :That is why the wise thing is to fix this situation. Your children must speak English only and must form like a Whiteman. What relevance as it brought to our people? we only end up with bunch of confused unsociable kids who behave like agric chickens and can not fit else where except for whitemans land where they are hardly recognised. No wonder many of them want to come back home by all means. Mine is let us eschew all this fetish practices and develop our language so that all other people of the world can benefit from its reach cultural tapestry. Yoruba scholars the challenge is up to you all to development means to achieve this through research and development and make people proud to use approprate, clean, clear and correct Yoruba in their daily activities. Lobatan. So I decided to speak Yoruba to him at all times |

baysol:There are no significant yoruboid groups in Delta state. The only Yoruboid groups in Delta state are the Olukumi people who are a minority group. The other Yoruboid like groups are the Igala and Itshekiri people who speak a language of their own. So how can Yoruba language be enforced in a very diverse and hetetrogenous state also made up of Isoko, Urhobo and Igbos? Sometimes think before typing! |

LadyExcellency:islamophobe ...visit a psychiatrist.Phobia is an anxiety disorder.nnamdi kanu is a muslim right? Ojukwu is a muslim right? isaac boro is a muslim right? Igbo dont think logically or they are not logical with their tribalism and bigotry!,you argue that muslims oppose biafra struggle and at the same time oppose intigration. I will save this your hypocritical, illogical islamophobic post for the day you will attack muslims for opposing secession! |

eyinjuege:Igbo Christians are too obsessed with islam.I fear they dont kill asari dokubo when biafra is realized. muslim this ,muslim that. They think the only way to attract likes from their islamophobic igbo colleagues is to just mention the world islambor Muslim.even of its out of context like the one just made. You accuse yoruba muslims and hausa fulani of opposing biafra, you attract "likes" you now turn to say they are anti-integration again and the stupid people like him still like the post. They will even abandon there fellow Christians up north Gowon,Theophylus danjuma and jeremiah usein that killed their biafran dreams and be shouting muslims out of hypocrisy and cowardice! They should conduct mass psychiatric test on biafrans on nairaland! |

victorDanladi:Why resist it to igbo? Islamophobia is a Global phenomenon occassioned by extreme violent and jihadist tendency in Islam. If people fear you religion then it is your duty to find ways to correct that impression by practising a religion that doesn't seek to unleash terror on mankind. As long as terror organizations are spear headed by those that practice islam, the fear of islam will continue to be a thing therefore you have no moral right to criticize anyone that hates the islam religion. |

baysol:The way igbo reasoning is irritating. They support Nigeria when it favours them. One was even calling the same muslims they attack for being anti-biafra of being anti-integration.very illogical ways of reasoning! |

You failed to inculcate the language in him from the start- many parents make that mistake- But at least now that you have realized- you are doing something.
