They can if there is a need.
The US already has an enormous computing power at its disposal that can serve them very effectively. Not to mention their satellites and enormous electronic spying capability that is un-rivalled in the world.
The day the US need the fastest computer in the world to hack China, they would build it.
It is also the same argument people make when they say Russia has the world's biggest nuke as a scare tactics. If the US needs the biggest nuke, they would build it in 6 months.
oooh yes there's need
It's because they can't build it that's why they don't have it.
And for satellites , they would be unusable in a war
GPS would fail and every thing would go cabum

Some telltale numbers suggest the nature of the future great power competition between Washington and Beijing that could determine the course of the twenty-first century. In April 2015, for instance, the Department of Agriculture reportedthat the U.S. economy would grow by nearly 50% over the next 15 years, while China’s would expand by 300%, equaling or surpassing America’s around 2030.

Similarly, in the critical race for worldwide patents, American leadership in technological innovation is clearly on the wane. In 2008, the United States still held the number two spot behind Japan in patent applications with 232,000. China was, however, closing in fast at 195,000, thanks to a blistering 400% increase since 2000. By 2014, China actually took the lead in this critical category with 801,000 patents, nearly half the world’s total, compared to just 285,000 for the Americans.

Over the longer term, the American education system, that critical source of future scientists and innovators, has been falling behind its competitors. In 2012, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development tested half a million 15-year-olds worldwide. Those in Shanghai came in first in math and science, while those in Massachusetts, “a strong-performing U.S. state,” placed 20th in science and 27th in math. By 2015, America’s standing had declined to 25th in science and 39th in math.

But why, you might ask, should anybody care about a bunch of 15-year-olds with backpacks, braces, and attitude? Because by 2030, they will be the mid-career scientists and engineers determining whose computers survive a cyber attack, whose satellites evade a missile strike, and whose economy has the next best thing.

Playing catch-up, China has recently achieved a bold breakthrough in secure communications. In August 2016, three years after the Pentagon abandoned its own attempt at full-scale satellite security, Beijing launched the world’s first quantum satellite that transmits photons, believed to be “invulnerable to hacking,” rather than relying on more easily compromised radio waves. According to one scientific report, this new technology will “create a super-secure communications network, potentially linking people anywhere.” China was reportedly planning to launch 20 of the satellites should the technology prove fully successful.

Well the article is from bloomberg and you can also find it on CNN. America becam a super power thanks to the destruction of western europe during the second world war. Japan has capitalism and has been in depression for decades. Japan economy can hardly grow 1%. They were projected to surpass the US. by early 90's. Communism is really working for the Chinese and we should applaud them.

Many still don't understand the peripheral reality of what so-called Democracy and Cummunism entails to the states that practice them. While some would see and interpret the right of a people to sleep with animals or marry same-sex partners as Democratic, while states that frowns at such practices and seek to manage resources for the common good are tagged "undemocratic" and backward, so much has been forgotten about the Purchasing power of the average man on the street. And that's exactly what this article is trying to point.

THAT WHAT YOU CALL YOUR GOVERNMENT DOESN'T MATTER BUT THE SYSTEM AND PEOPLE THAT DRIVES IT.

If Democrasy and capitalism should be taking at face value the way its been portray, you wouldn't have had a United States with the world's most billionians yet one of the world's worst Healthcare system that ranked below Slovenia and Morroco. Not to mention a failing and dilapidated infrastructural system.

The fact remains that capitalism-the power of one man above a million-have done much harm than good to the society. We see the extremely rich sentenced to death in China, a communist society, but that will never happen in the capitalist greedy West like in the US.

Yeah, communism is working good for China and is only midgets with warp beliefs and myopic sentiment that doesn't know China has pulled ahead of the US in this area.
As I have always stated over time, the numbers of warships or you have won't win you a war. It is the inate will of the people and productive capacity of a state, together with the ultimate decision of the cosmic powers that determine the outcome of a war.

Mazeltovscotty:
you are contradicting yourself.
US spend more than 80% of its military budget on hardwares and military researches. (F-35 comes to mind). You can take a ride to DARPA website and confirm.
Have you ever seen a month that Pentagon doesn't award contract the likes of Lockheed, Northrop Grumman, General Dynamics e.t.c for one hardware or the other.

Secondly, there is need to project power all over the world giving US first-strike edge in any part of the world. This needs to be matched with fat budget.

Lies. The majority of US military spending goes into personel maintenance such as tissues, toothpaste, food, etc., and infrastructural maintenance like the over 800 military bases they have worldwide. Only a few of that translate into capabilities.

Stop the overhype, Pentagon doesn't award contracts on monthly basis. Most contracts are given out for maintenance and upgrade, only few goes for new systems.
Now the F-35 you mentioned is one of the reasons the US military is gradually becoming a waste basket. Spending billions on a project that simply doesn't work is unwise and wasteful for the prestige of the military. The B-2 is just another example, dropping just only five bombs in its entire career, yet it was hailed as the best plane ever built. Despite the hype, it has been relegated to the background with the US preferring the F-22 (which so far is a success) and now the F-35, the greatest boondoggle of the modern Era.

If it were to be in places like China, some heads would be rolling in the gallows by now. But being the US, the MIC can continue scamming the government and the people. That's the ultimate price when the greedy tentacles of capitalism runs the national ideology.

Thank you sire. This is my problem with all these Amerikan-fan boys who only see things from the prism of the zionist mainstream media. grin

They have refused to accept tha everything we have seen so far indicates that Amerika is not rational or reasonable when it comes to accepting that her days as the “almighty” dictator of the world are over.

And instead of working to keep that “hell-hole” internal contradictions from tearing apart, her leaders are absolutely obsessed with holding on to their power and “punishing” Russia, Iran & NK for imaginary, or manufactured, transgressions - Pathetic! grin

Libya and the fate of Gaddafi stand as a stark reminder of what the “United Snakes of Amerika” would like to do to her self-created enemies.

Syria was scheduled to undergo the same treatment but the NATO/Zionist fist was stopped in mid-swing by the latest “Sheriff-in-Town” a.k.a Mother Russia in 2015 and Amerika has been frothing at the mouth ever since. grin cheesy grin

While China continues to dominate the world “Economically” ; the unbeatable “Military Arc of Covenant” of the world rests on Mother Russia!

Y else do you think most Countries - including NATO member states - are fighting to purchase Russian Military gears? Hahaahahahahahaaa! grin cheesy grin

Saudi Arabia now queueing up for S-400. Erdogan and his military must have leaked the secret how the system was effectively "painting" all US planes including the F-22 raptor in Syria and across the incirlik airbase in Turkey. The US DOD open complain further lend credence to this fact, and that's why Turkey didn't waste anytime in pushing for the purchase. Now, other traditional allies of the US are following suit.

What a game changing moment brought about by the Russian intervention.

America is a Paper Tiger! It can no longer fight or win wars in any meaningful way. Do you know that unlike the fearless, strong-willed, battle-hardened Russians, Chinese and North Koreans, the Americans are just weak-ass, cowardly, bugger-eating, psychologically feeble loudmouths? Americans FEAR death. America can't stand CASAULTIES. America is AFRAID of casaulties---which makes all its "technical superiority" pointless and easy to nullify in a battle against people with souls. Iraq, Afghanistan and Vietnam have demonstrated this fact quite clearly. Or can it be said that any meaningful victory was achieved in Iraq? It is even said that America BRIBED Saddam Hussein's key soldiers to save her bugger-eating cowards from the heavy casaulties that they would have otherwise experienced. What a joke!

The Americans are empty, dumb, cretinous and crass---their enemies are spiritually and ideologically unbreakable. America's ember is dying, and its hegemony is being ECLIPSED on the world stage. The Zombie can only stagger on for a little longer. America should make no pointless moves that would embarass it any longer. The propaganda it lives and survives on is the only thing that now keeps it going.

Americans are weak people. Remember what 9/11 did to their psyche? You can be sure that had Hitler invaded America instead of the INDEFATIGABLE Soviet Union, he would have won World War II.

God died, and Nietzsche was the one who "called it". America has died, just that no one has "called it" yet. The GHOST is distracting people from seeing the CORPSE.

He that have an ear let him hear.

The US has gone beyond manufacturing, though Trump wants to bring it back by reducing taxes and bringing back US companies looking for cheap labour in china back home.
Anybody can manufacture. It is not difficult especially with cheap labour. The difficult thing is creating the intellectual property which is a product of innovation.
If the US and china were to go to the war, the US government would immediately enforce the patriot act compelling all US manufacturers like Apple, HP, TESLA, DELL, e.tc. in china to come back home immediately.
And that would severely cripple china as the world's manufacturing giant to a very very large extent.

And you think the Chinese don't know that already? There would even be no need to activate e the patriot clause cause it won't work. China would simply take over those companies or prevent them from leaving. It's as simple as that.
