“There’s virtually no setup in Nigeria that doesn’t run a co-operative,” he is convinced, “I won’t be surprised if your company (Techpoint) has its own co-operative or one or more of its team members are involved in an ajo (joint savings) group.”

He says this with confidence because his company, Riby, helps co-operatives and their members remotely control both their finance and financial operations.

Riby happens to provide the technology that helps Mr Lanre’s company to manage their (employee) co-operative scheme.

The Riby business model

Riby’s unique value proposition is built around 3 major modules that guarantee access to financial services and better financial management.

Riby for co-operatives allows co-operatives to onboard their group on its platform, manage the finances of the group as well as the finances of its members.

The Riby peer-to-peer lending module allows companies to run internal co-operatives within their fold. A case in point is a savings rotation mechanism that auto-debits employees and credits whoever is due to receive money for the month. For both modules, Riby charges a per-user fee of ₦200 upfront, amounting to ₦2000 per annum and ₦500 on a quarterly basis.



The agent management platform, Riby’s third module, is another exciting proposition that raises an innocent suspicion as to whether Riby is taking the competition to the commercial banks. This is apparent in their overall quest to include everyone in the system.

Spreading co-operatives to the banked and unbanked populace



Mr. Lanre is of the opinion that co-operatives are a big disrupter of the commercial banking system, and it’s not so difficult to see why.

The financial institutions have a legal framework that allows them to conduct financial services across the country, and granting loans to customers is one of those services. However, many people still experience difficulty accessing basic financial instruments.

“Commercial banks hardly provide people loans but through co-operatives, people can get loans for financial progress,” he affirms.

He believes that this may have ignited the proliferation of some co-operatives. While there is some truth to that, Salami is quick to, however, clarify Riby’s position on the matter.



“We can’t speak of disruption when people haven’t found a way to give themselves access to finance and better management,” he says.

About 40% of Nigerians are yet to register with any financial institution in the country, according to the Central Bank of Nigeria. Statistics from the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS) further show that there are only about 40 million registered bank accounts across the country. These accounts are enrolled by just 20.8 million customers, some having more than one account. It is therefore apparent that co-operatives can be used to reach the unbanked.

This would perhaps explain why banks are key partners of Riby, seeing that they deploy the services of registered agents to help onboard co-operatives (with large members) on their banking platform.

“You’d be surprised to know a particular bank manager told me 10% of their entire deposit comes from co-operatives,” Salami reveals, “As a matter of fact, there are co-operatives in this country that have enough deposit to be eligible for a commercial banking license.”



So rather than re-inventing the wheel or offering banking services, Riby is “just offering a solution that allows people run their banking activities differently,” he affirms. “When it comes to finance, the banks cannot solve all the problems and we discovered it was a faster route to scale.”

This is also why the Riby agent management platform (otherwise called Riby amplified) — designed specifically for banks — gives Riby its largest revenue pool, from charging partner licensing or customisation fees.

Prospects

Riby has had some setbacks in matching its customer target of 5 million, but the platform is nonetheless growing at a daily average of a thousand users.

Since launching last year, 17th May, 2016, Riby has acquired nearly 400,000 customers. Interestingly, transactions worth over ₦5 billion have been processed with user data (of over 100,000 customers) connected to the Riby system. However, only a small portion of this flows through Riby at the moment. “We want all that money to flow through our system,” he says.

The prediction is that over 20 million people (from Nigeria and a few other emerging markets in West Africa) will become users of the platform in the future. “We hope that 15 million of them have never had access to major banking services before,” Salami says.

While co-operatives can be extremely transformative, one major hindrance Riby might have is how to simplify its technology for the end users — more so because it is exploring uncharted territory. Riby would have to devote resources towards educating users if it is to drive adoption and, this will prove costly when targeted at a large informal market, like Nigeria’s.

But with the way people go about co-operatives, we just might never be able to tell what the market for Riby would be like.

Already, the Nigerian co-operative act and certification lays a good foundation for the establishment of co-operatives. “With as low as ₦4000, anyone can register and operate a co-operative,” Salami explains

Oladeji .O. Laditan is a 1985 graduate of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Lagos. He joined Mobil Oil plc in the year 1987 and retired in 2008. His 21 years working career spanned through various departments including sales, marketing, operation, security, planning and engineering.

In recent times, he has been in private business as an entrepreneur – concentrating on Facilities management. He is a shareholder in many business concerns, spanning Health, Oil & Gas, Hospitality and Transport sectors.

He is married with 2 children.

Mr. Tunji Adepetun.

A Graduate of Accounting from the University of Ife (Obafemi Awolowo University) with a Masters degree in Business Administration from the University of Lagos.
Presently runs an Investment Banking Firm and actively involved in Financial & Corporate Finance Advisory, Private Equity & Structured Finance.

Worked in the banking sector for over 2 decades and gained experience and competence in identifying opportunities and creating value in Corporate, Commercial & Retailing banking sectors.

Over the years, he has gained competence and experience in structuring and financing transactions in Real Estate, Infrastructure, Hospitality, Oil & Gas, Manufacturing & the Health Care Sectors.
While in the banking sector, worked at Oceanic bank(Ecobank) as a Zonal Head, and was in charge of 16 business offices across Lagos Mainland; where he gave direction for new business opportunities and growing existing relationships. At Ecobank, he managed a balance sheet in excess of $100m and was charged with the responsibility of giving strategic direction for business growth in 6 key business offices of the bank.
He started his banking career in the early 90's in the Corporate banking unit at Nigerian American Merchant bank; where he managed accounts of some blue Chip companies including Nigerian Breweries, CFAO & UTC .He later joined the Commercial banking division of Citizens bank during which he notably managed a Portfolio of close to N1billion comprising of over 50 major Stockbroking Firms' Accounts.
He was part of the set up team of the "new" National bank in year 2000 and was instrumental in stabilizing and growing the business in the newly set up Treasury Marketing unit of the bank (achieved a N1Billion growth in the first one year)

He received a recommendation for Outstanding Performance from the Managing Director of Ecobank in April 2014 in recognition of his superseding set goals.
Tunji is passionate about Economic Empowerment & Employment for the younger generation (especially the less privileged), and is a member of 2 non-for -profit Initiatives.

Prior to his appointment as Acting Chief Operating Officer, Japaul Shipping & Offshore Services Ltd, Segun served as Group Human Resources Manager, Japaul Oil and Maritime Services, Plc, He worked as Head, Human Resources of Nigerian Aviation Handling Co. Plc (Nahco) and Actg Head Human Resources at Nigerdock Nig Plc – FZE. He also pioneered and headed the Consultancy & Research Dept, CIPM amongst several other appointments. He has over twenty five years of Human Resource Management and Consultancy experience.

His academic credentials include a B.Sc in Economics and a Masters degree in Business Administration Specialising in Human Resource Management. He is also a Member of The Chartered Institute of Personnel Management Of Nigeria, an Associate of the Nigerian Institute of Management and a graduate of The International Bible Institute and Leadership Training School.

He is happily married to Chigozie and they are blessed with four children.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, is a chartered accountant and has applied these variously in the past twenty-six years of working experience.

He is licensed to practice as a chartered accountant in Nigeria, after the mandatory training with an audit and accountancy firm with clients, under his supervision, spanning manufacturing, shipping, trading, world bank supported agricultural development projects, air travel, engineering, finance, government investment group of companies, etc.

Mr Okunnuga worked with a pioneer Nigerian information and communication technology company, rising from company accountant, through General Manager (Finance and Administration) and Director Product Planning and Development, to become the acting Managing Director. Within this period he took a training course in Computer Network Administration with the Drake’s Institute of Birmingham, England.

He has been into entrepreneurial activity and was also briefly Chief Operating Officer of a business consulting firm providing capital restructuring, fund sourcing and financial advisory services.

Mr Okunnuga is the managing partner of O. C. Okunnuga & Co. (Chartered Accountants) and CEO of Omega Matrix Ltd (Management Advisory & Executive Services). He is also a non- executive director of COOP Savings & Loans Ltd, a mortgage bank, and Mediplan Healthcare Ltd, a health management organisation.

Active working career started in Kaduna in 1992 with Fertilizers and Chemicals Ltd, Kaduna where George worked as Logistics Officer with responsibility over North Eastern states for two years.

Worked with Sterling Health and later GlaxoSmithKline (formerly SmithKline Beecham Plc) for over 15 years( 1995 -2010) in Field Sales, Sales Operations, Performance Enhancement, Customer Marketing, New Product Development and other commercial roles of high relevance across the North, East and West regions of Nigeria at senior management level. George pioneered the GSK Global project for Best Sales Force World Wide for West Africa with the embedding of strategies and initiatives that drove the optimization of Sales team performance and capacity

After accounting professional training in an audit and accountancy firm, he moved into group financial and internal control with Inlaks Group, a multi-national group spanning IT, Import/Export, Aluminum, Food Technology, etc.

He had an overview of banking as Citizens Bank’s Internal Controller as well as Operations Manager of Haggai Bank Inc.

Information Technology and Management exposure was developed as the Group Financial Controller of the accredited Nigerian representative of world leaders such as Compaq, Hewlett Packard, American Power Conversion, etc. He moved this company from negative income, through a reordering of processes, improved funding and relationship management, product margins and order volume/cycle management, to significant profits within a year.

A stint with Capital Alliance, Nigeria’s first private equity firm with a commitment fund of $35mln, with investors including IFC (a member of the World Bank Group) provided him with insight into investment management and profit optimization.

He has now led Alpha Partners into various lucrative long-term investment deals and activities, in Oil and Gas, Banking, Real Estate, Healthcare, Insurance, Assets Management etc.

He is currently on the Boards of Mediplan Holdings, Mediplan Healthcare, Crossover Microfinance Bank, MH Assets, Paramount Healthcare, Allied Assets, Africa Development Corporation (an emerging Hedge Fund), Prepaid Medicare amongst others.

CONTAINERIZED SKID STATION:

Containerized LPG skid stations are compact cooking gas refilling plant installed inside a customized 20ft or 40ft shipping container. It comes complete with LPG storage tank, electronic cylinder filling scales, autoGAS dispenser and all necessary piping system.

The skid comes with all safety devices such as sprinkler systems, relief valves, gauges and flow meters.

SYNTHETIC NATURAL GAS( SNG)

What is SNG?

Synthetic Natural Gas (SNG), is a blend of LPG and diluents such as Compressed Air, Biogas, Digester Gas, Landfill Gas, or Nitrogen. SNG is a direct replacement for Natural Gas, and plays a critical role in meeting the interchangeable energy requirements of the industry.

Why use SNG?

Natural Gas is a vital component of the world’s supply of energy. It is one of the cleanest, safest, and cheapest energy sources widely used in residential, commercial, and industrial applications. Over a period, the increased usage of Natural Gas leads to a mismatch in the demand and supply ratio creating a scarcity of Natural Gas.

SNG is a viable alternative when there is an absence or a shortage of Natural Gas. SNG can be used to precede the availability of Natural Gas or to augment the Gas supply where Natural Gas is already available or if there is disruption in supply.

The SNG system can be virtually designed to meet any energy demand due to its modular nature. It can also be designed to give tailor-made solutions to suit specific process requirements in different working scenario.

SNG as base Load system: Provide SNG in region where Natural Gas is currently not available. SNG base load system provides continuous and uninterrupted fuel supply to meet full load energy demand.
SNG as Standby System: SNG will provide an ideal standby fuel in the event Natural Gas source is unavailable due to curtailment, maintenance shutdown or catastrophic failure or interruption of Natural Gas supply.
SNG as Peak Shaving System: SNG Peak Shaving System acts as an asset as well as profit protection tool in case of shortage or inadequate supply of Natural Gas. It will also help to mitigate price volatility during peak demand period.
SNG systems provide a convenient, consistent, high quality fuel with combustion characteristics similar to Natural Gas. In emerging economies where Natural Gas is in its infancy, SNG plants allow local Gas utility firms to “build up” a customer base during planning and construction of a Natural Gas transmission system. The availability of SNG also supports commercial and industrial growth since such customers can install Natural Gas equipment and commence their production without waiting for arrival of the Natural Gas. This way Industries save substantial interest costs by commencing production on time.
