couple of months ago tenders were issued to Indian companies for sub systems.

unfortunately no and Serbian and Czech systems r good , also becz they r flexible on TOT incase u want it.

heard chatter of a prospective 5th generation fighter development deal between India and France

actually nobody has any idea of this , but from what little i heard it is to be based on Indian AMCA 5th gen aircraft presently in preliminary design stage.

however its too early to confirm , deal can go south anytime and other factors r also involved like success of projects like Safran tweaked Kaveri engine , collaboration on leveraging Rafale technology and MIC for LCA etc etc

also the new Safranised Kaveri engine for LCA has passed semi cold start tests and further tests r continuing.
Kaveri is a variable cycle engine and its rating is better than European and American counterparts, France plans to use these engines and tech for future Rafale fleet back home as well, what is being replaced is the core of Kaveri engine ie Kabini core which was giving problems with the french M88 core.

a variable-cycle engine can run in at least two modes, one for high speed and one for fuel efficiency

Rolls Royce has made a counter offer for Kaveri too ,in view of the Safran deal.

Safranised Kaveri engine is destined for LCA replacing the American ones , plus in future it will power the rafale jets.

also it seems Indian version of S400 will be different from the original S400 it will be kind of S450 in between S400 and S500,i had alluded to this 1 year ago.

it will contain components/tech from S500 Prometheus specially the hit to kill interceptors, all the S 400 missiles r for proximity type kills only.
all its needs is a special wavier from Putin to begin integration.

its the Truck of the serbian Oganj MLRS , modified to launch tis kosava 1 missiles

The modernization program of the Oganj MLRS is based on a 6x6 military truck chassis FAP 2026 fitted with new armour crew cab developed by Zastava offering a protection against the firing of small arms 12.7mm heavy machine gun and shell splinters.

The crew cab can accommodate four military personnel. There is two small bullet proof windows at the front and two doors on each side with one small bullet proof windows in the upper part. For its self-protection the roof of the crew cab is fitted with an open-top turret which is armed with a 12.7mm heavy machine gun.

The rear part of the truck is fitted with a launcher station which is mounted on an electrically power-operated turntable which has a traverse of 360°. Different types of container can be used to fire Oganj 50 km rockets , Kosava 1 and Kosava 2 rockets and the ALAS anti-tank guided missile. The new Oganj can also used the rocket container of the Morava MLRS.

The vehicle is fitted with latest generation aiming system including INS, GPS and weapon control system. A new command unit is mounted on the vehicle for digital control of the existing analog servos.

It is very sad, same way the navy wants to become a coast guard only good at chasing vandals and busting illegal refineries, I mean for Bleep sakes that is not their purpose.
Imagine the Air Force now carries out areal surveillance of Abuja-kaduna highway meanwhile police helicopters are being used to ferry politicians and godfathers.
Have you seen the Nigerian police force hanger at Nnamdi Azikiwe international airport in Abuja? It’s filled up.

Effective way to kill a military, assigning them to mediocre and outright ridiculous duties. Hell I even seen NSCDC armed guys transporting rice and souvenirs from a wedding, blarring sirens and driving recklessly, like there was an urgent matter of national security to be attended to.

So if the NSCDC is now into armed logistics for private citizens, the police as usual utterly clueless and inept at even policing a rabbit pen, someone thought it wise to pour military boots into internal security than addressing the gross ineptitude in the relevant paramilitary units.

Good lord so much is just wrong, I cry myself to sleep thinking about it.

ISRO gearing up for second prototype test of RLV-TD

A little over a year since the successful flight test of the first prototype of the Reusable Launch Vehicle - Technology Demonstrator (RLV-TD), ISRO is gearing up for a second go. Only this time, the prototype will ‘land’ on land instead of water.

Work is progressing at the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) here on the second RLV-TD. A senior officer associated with the project said the RLV-TD will almost be a ditto version of the first scaled-down RLV-TD with the only exception being it will have landing gear.

ISRO sources said it may take another year for the model to be ready. They said the present plan is to launch the RLV-TD from Sriharikota and land it on an undisclosed Air Force airfield in the eastern sector. This is yet to be finalised though, they said.

The unmanned RLV-TD comprises a space shuttle-like component fitted atop a booster rocket. The first RLV-TD weighing 1.5 tonnes, was successfully launched from Sriharikota on May 23 last year and splashed down in the Bay of Bengal from a height of 64.8 km.
While VSSC is primarily responsible for building the RLV-TD, the navigational equipment are being provided by the ISRO Inertial Systems Unit in Thiruvananthapuram and ISRO’s Satellite Applications Centre, Ahmedabad. Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd is responsible for the landing gear.

In fact, ISRO plans a series of TDs before attempting to build a fully-fledged vehicle that can be reused for launching satellites. A subsequent TD will possibly involve a slightly larger vehicle which will place a nano-satellite in the orbit.

SHLV - super heavy lift vehicle is expected to launch 100 tonnes payload into LEO, well provided everything goes as planned and goals r not changed. will know for sure when it happens.

HLV project was cancelled but it is now an extension of ULV project

in parallel ISRO has 2 Reusable Launch Vehicle Programs

1.AVATAR (SSTO)
2.TSTO

AVATAR will be a Single Stage To Orbit (SSTO) launch system that will attempt to reuse maximum sub-systems and will use turbojet and dual mode ramjet-scramjet propulsion. The use of air-breathing ramjet-scramjet engines will preclude need for carrying all the propellants , particularly oxidizer, that will enable cutting the system cost.

Avatar is an ambitious program and with the kind of engine and material technologies required, such SSTO launch system will take a long time to develope. Accordingly, ISRO has decided to first develop a Two Stage to Orbit (TSTO) reusable launch system for the immediate future by utilizing its current capabilities and target development of AVATAR in the long term.

Targeted TSTO Features:


10 Ton to LEO and GTO payload capability.
Vertical take off.
Semi-cryogenic booster stage with avg. Isp of 330 seconds and cryogenic orbiter stage with avg. Isp of 400 seconds.
Total lift off weight < 700 tons.
Winged body booster that will boost the orbiter to Mach 10 at an altitude of 80-100 km then separate and return to launch site and land conventionally on an air-strip.
Orbiter will deploy the payloads in the intended orbits and then deboost, re-enter and land on airbags or vertically on legs.
Vehicle structure designed for 100 flights and engines for 50 flights.
Turn around time should be 30 days.
Payload fraction = 2%.
Cost effectiveness < 1000 US $/ kg for LEO payload.
