KingSango:

Greetings,

I must comment on this since I live in America. Nigerians do well in America who start their business because other Nigerians will support shops that import goods from home that cant be obtained in America. Nigerians that obtain white collar jobs do well if they dont acquire credit card, mortgage and car loan debts. Menial labor in America is slavery you will be paying for your own food, clothing and shelter but never own land and property. This is how come African Americans are still in poverty after generations. It seems Nigerians are joining us in this ignorant self enslavement.

Nigeria is a very special African nation with thousands of years of human civilization and history. Your artwork is the centerpiece of the British museum like Eqypt and China. How come you abandon your Nigeria knowing you got work to do and a great nation is in your palm?

The recession will end when ordinary Nigerians want it to end. When you have the guts to transform those large political parties into crowd funding for a capital improvement program for small businesses. Many of you are fighting for government jobs and contracts dividing what is already a small pie, mind you alot of corrupt hands in it before the poor even see it. But this is no different than any other nation of human beings. Small businesses generate the most jobs not government and special contracts. Nigerians are masters of creating profitable small businesses and shops. Fund yourselves and stop waiting on an overburdened Nigerian government. Self love is the first and last love. Ase, Love Sango

U make so much sense, wow I'm inspired

The funniest and most expensive joke I have heard from Nigerians doing menial jobs in the US. and earning between $1,500- $2,000, is claiming that they are richer than bank managers in Nigeria. I guess they make their money in America while spending it in Nigeria. This stupid joke need to stop. A Nigerian doing menial job in the US. at best can be compare to someone receiving 80,000 Monthly in Nigeria in purchasing power. A Nigerian doing odd jobs for 10 yrs will still be paying rent while a 10 yrs bank manager would have long built two to three houses with a lucrative investment. Nigerians in America need to stop converting currencies because it is clearly stated that if you earn $12,000 annually in America you are living in poverty

Op....you need to define what a bank manager is. bank manager na just title oooo. A manager grade in a bank starts from AM( assistant manager) next is DM(deputy manager).
Trust me op....AM grade in some banks earn 500k monthly and I bet u dont want to know what they use that salary to do.....from topping up when u book expensive TD's to never ending PR's to get quality accounts....op no beef us wen u see us in suit oooo....na just packaging. If u are still in doubt walk down to broad street and see loan shacks advertising loans to bankers and see us scrambling for it. Bottom line is ur disposable income...compare odd jobbers in the US with some oda professional in Nigeria not bank managers pls.

I'm guessing you assume he is single, because it's sheer madness for anyone with a family to live in a single box room in a shared accommodation. Plus, not everyone is interested in unskilled prison worker jobs either. These kind of jobs are for unskilled applicants, not for graduates with Masters degrees. I have noticed that this idea of living in box rooms in shared accommodation seems to be prevalent amongst single guys/ladies living in London due to rent costs, the solution is to relocate out of London.
YES YES SINGLE.

Truly Americans don't save mind u most of them don't like to work much. I ave seen an American 23 yrs college drop out working with a drilling company. he saved $39k and pay $30k for a dodge racing car as deposit to pay balance in installment. he said that is what get like. he never think of buying a house or invest the money. most nigerians in US has a purpose of going there. my purpose may b diff from yours but if your purpose is to go and make money, bros forget bank manager oooo

It's obvious the person who posted this tthread has never traveled. When I finished university, I search for job for 7 good years and nothing came up. I traveled to UK with the help of a friend who did visa for me whom I promised to pay once I find something doing. I arrived UK and after two months I got a menial job that pays me 1600$ a month. Now these are my expenses:
House rent per month 350$
Phone subscription for data 21$ unlimited
Food and beverage 150$
Bus ticket for one month to work 100$
After all other expenses I do save up to 800$ every month. Some months I do save 1000$
So please let be realistic about our analysis.
Oga, I told you, you must be consistent with your lies. grin grin grin

Richmond is a wealthy area of London. So accommodation there will be expensive. Intelligent Nigerians who know what they want to achieve in the UK live in Cities like Birmingham, Coventry and Liverpool. And they work as Carpenters, Plumbers and Gas Engineers. Some of them own Private cleaning companies. You can laugh if you want to but these people are making more money than office workers in the UK, minus the Investment Bankers cool cool cool cool cool cool.

Now you are getting the drift .Point is Nigeria is like a virgin land, loads of opportunity to make money however the limiting factor is Initial capital,This is waht youths go abroad to look for,How long it takes, is dependent on howmuch you hustle.

You don't live in Abuja. Don't mislead people who don't live here. I live here.

Kubwa? The least you can get a house around Deidei is 300k not to talk of Kubwa. Are you counting Deidei as part of Abuja?

Gwagwalada is nearly 60 kilometres away from Abuja. Who counts Gwagwalada as part of Abuja?

Abuja is Wuse, Maitama, Asokoro, Garki, Jabi, Lifecamp, Gwarimpa, Mabushi, Katampe and the upcoming Lokogoma( Lokogoma minus the terrible roads).

I live here. Abuja cannot measure with any city in the USA but still has high house rent. Call a spade by its name; Nigeria is a country to get out of.

Going through the entire thread just got me laughing.

1. It is totally wrong to be comparing menial job worker with a Bank Manager in Nigeria. Though some Nigerians in diaspora do the comparison and it is rude.

2 converting your earnings to dollars or naira is equally an aberration because you are not picking your bills in those currencies.

3. I work for an organisation with a pay that is above 7 figures per month after deduction of Tax, HMO Health Insurance for my entire family, NHIF, Pension contribution (compulsory and voluntary) and ease of getting visa to any country.

The Health Insurance gives me and the family access to any hospital in the world.

I have a comfortable abode of mine. It is not a mansion but it is comfortable and I am happy inside. I am blessed with 2 or 3properties, with at least a quality vacation outside the country guaranteed every 2years.

I have access to at least 20hrs of light per day with Generating Set offsetting the remaining 4hrs. In all I spend 10k on PHCN prepaid card and 15k on Gen per month. To a large extent, my cost of living is reduced and I can save more. Access to internet is 3 for 10kobo in Naija now, that is not a luxury.

Can I give that a way to relocate for now? No. Will I love to relocate in the nearest future. Maybe Yes. The reason is for the integration of the kids into the society and not for economic reasons.

Wherever you find yourself, just ensure it is working for you and do not look down on the people on the other side of the world -- whether at home or in diaspora. My friends outside the country are professionals and they are very successful and I do spend my vacation with some of them. Whenever they come to Naija, my home is usually their first point of call because I am comfortable and contented with the little God has blessed me with in Naija and they know I can never ask them for 1dollar.

In summary, it is neither here nor there. There are more opportunities in Naija bei.g a developing economy, but you need the right connection to harness most. American system is not based on connection to a large extent in comparison with Naija.

When you consider school fees, state of roads, cost of quality healthcare and security, life expectancy an quality of life will definitely be better in America. When you consider ease of making money, social livability (functions - parties wedding etc), fun and chances to more opportunities, Nigeria tops it.

God bless our hustles.
