Boring talk. The first one million richest Nigerians made their money in Nigeria. 90% of Nigerians living in America and that includes college graduates are all broke ass! America is indeed a land of failures

The same America that your poverty country Nigeria borrows money from(World Bank and IMF both in the US).

Continue on your delusional wishful thinking if that is only what will make you feel better and sane about yourself.

London is a very expensive city to live in. Unless you are an Investment Banker, Property Rentals Guru or Russian/Chinese Billionaire, you need to run away from London and head to the West Midlands or Liverpool or Manchester. And if you are skilled in Carpentry, Plumbing, Electrical Services or you are a qualified Gas Engineer, you will make loads of money and will live a rich but quiet life. The truth is 'Hand Work' pays better than office work in the UK, USA and Canada or many western nations if you know what you are doing and can keep your mouth shut. If you can keep your mouth shut about the money handed to you in CASH by your clients, you will last a long time in the 'Hand Work' lifestyle. Cheers.

even in many african countries. The standard of living is far better than nigeria. And secondly, there is something very funny about the way we africans or should I say nigerians see things. Why do ppl take house building as a sign or measurement of success? So once someone can build a house, iit means he is auccessful
'Yes sir it does. Having a personal house of ur own where ever u live is a great privilege & a blessing to d family u house therein,. In today's world, having a decent accomodation with ur family is d 1st thing dt defines a man's standard of living, especially when u build it urself or u buy it outright. How many poor ppl can afford a normal 4bedroom flat in LEKKI, AJAH, VI, ABUJA, PH, & other naija cities?? not villages. To even have ur own house in d so called villages in today's naija is also by d GRACE of GOD & never thru d so called HARDWORK because many HARDWORK for naija don turn to HARDSHIP. My opinion though,. All these properties that yeild millons in rent per annum were built by someone & not spirits. Although success is in levels, but i think we also know what defines a poor man.

The money I have seen Nigerians spend in paying for living in shared box rooms in London can be used to rent a decent sized 2 bedroom flat/house in those cities you mentioned. I honestly don't know what the attraction to London is, the pay isn't different from the rest of the UK if working as a professional. People are living a miserable existence in penury all in an attempt to brag about living in London, it's a false life.

My pad came with only a cooker fitted in and I don't cook anyways. undecided I had to rent or buy the rest of the equipment. Takeaway every night tends to raise the bills, not to mention grocery shopping and warm clothes as well. You know Richmond na. Anyway sha, you are implying that for one to live in the UK you must lower your standards, abi? Isn't that proving the OPs point?

This UK is hell on earth. After my masters I'll go back the next day after graduation. I'd rather move to saner African countries like Namibia, Botswana, South Africa, etc than stay in Onyiboland ever again.

Haha.

Right now, I would say I earn as much as a manager cheesy

But the gist of the OP is accurate in a way. A bank manager, top exec in an oil and gas firm, businessman, or even entry-level oil petroleum engineer could plausibly be a home owner within 2-3 years of work.

But people, here, who earn less than $5,000/month (depending on the state they live in), may only be able to afford a one or two-bedroom rental apartment.

However, most essentials of life are affordable to people who are even earning minimum wage. A minimum wage earner can buy a bag of rice without sweat cheesy, can buy a plane ticket from the US to the UK, can even buy a car (with financing), and has access to health insurance via his/her employer.

In contrast, I’d wager that no more than 10-15% of Nigerian adult residents can afford a plane ticket to the UK or anywhere else in Western Europe, let alone the United States.

So, comparatively speaking, a bank manager in Nigeria has more disposable income than someone who earns $2,500/month in the US, but when it comes to the affordability of most essentials of life, both categories of individuals are on par with each other.

Some body with sense.

Not necessarily tickets from america to other countries or even within it can't be compared to what Nigerians pay.... Nigerians air fare inter and intra and one of the highest in the world,if reversed was the case, I doubt Americans would be able to fly the way we do

The funniest and most expensive joke I have heard from Nigerians doing menial jobs in the US. and earning between $1,500- $2,000, is claiming that they are richer than bank managers in Nigeria. I guess they make their money in America while spending it in Nigeria. This stupid joke need to stop. A Nigerian doing menial job in the US. at best can be compare to someone receiving 80,000 Monthly in Nigeria in purchasing power. A Nigerian doing odd jobs for 10 yrs will still be paying rent while a 10 yrs bank manager would have long built two to three houses with a lucrative investment. Nigerians in America need to stop converting currencies because it is clearly stated that if you earn $12,000 annually in America you are living in poverty

OP it's true that some Nigerians in diaspora tell.lies, but assuming he earns $600 per week for an undocumented job (some pays much more), that's $2400 (N864,000) monthly.
He can get a studio apartment for $1000. monthly he has a take home of about 1000usd in untaxed income (though not a good idea working). and his sure that every weekend/ bi-weekly (as the case maybe, he will get his paycheck.

London weighting allowance is designed to help people working in London to deal with the extra costs peculiar to London. In skilled professions, even with London weighting, the pay nationwide is comparatively the same. The meagre increase in the gross pay due to London weighting is extinguished by the London cost of living factor and lower quality of life. £500 can pay rent/month for a 2-3 bedroom property in decent areas of Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle; but in London, I only hear of box rooms for that amount in shared accommodation with dodgy characters as housemates.

I think I will leave this debate, I have digressed away from the topic of this thread.

The wages in most professions in the UK across the cities are not too different. I know what I am saying. Except in some Industries like IT ( Sheffield is the UK's capital for IT ) and Oil Industry and its numerous service jobs. As a teacher, you can earn more outside London as a Freelance or Contract Staff. Then it is far cheaper to live in Cities like Birmingham, Nottingham, Manchester and Liverpool. Bristol is just like London. Bristol is very expensive to live in. However, I am talking about being a 'Hand Work' person and running a service of your own. People are talking about Bank Managers and white collar jobs. Do you know how much a self employed painter earns in the UK? Or how much Carpenters earn on Contracts as self employed tradesmen? TRADESMEN are the ones balling big time in the UK, USA and Canada because they are mostly self regulated. If you are a TRADESMAN, learn to keep your mouth shut. Cheers.

Oga thats a very big fat lie. In this present Naija, you can't get a 2bed apartment for that amount, except of course in an underdeveloped area. I was at Abuja recently to visit a family there. They are a young couple with 2 kids. Thay stay in a 2 bed apartment and they pay a milli per annum.

Also, i have been to America amd planning to finally relocate there. I was there for 6 months this year already and i know how life is there and know what Naija people there are achieving. Believe it or not, an ordinary salary earner or even a cab driver in America is far better than a bank manager here in Naija. After house rent, gas and electricity bills, Naija people over there still get to send money down home here and build houses and have investments here. That your assumption that a person doin normal job there can never build a duplex here till next 20 years is a big fat lie, make more research. You claim most Americans dont have up to 10k savings in theor account? You really more ignorant. Have you asked yourself this, the Americans people getting scammed of thousands of dollars through wire, dating etc, how do those people get those savings? There are lots of Americans with as much as between 100k to over 1milli savings in their accounts. Get ya facts right.

Also, even if we wanna assume "Okay, most Americans dont have up to 10k savings" dont you fink they might not feel the need to? Since they are earning their income constantly without getting owed like Naija Govt does and they get money to meet their needs at the right time cos payment is stable. Also, they feel its their country and no need saving up since they aint planning runnin to any other place. And also, they have everything within their reach e.g power supply, water, good roads, health care etc. A serious Naija citizen would feel the need to be saving up constantly cos he knows its not his country and he has to tie things down back home. Definitely, he would be saving every dime he has to spare and send down here to be getting projects done and investments set up.

Naija people in yankee with decent jobs are making waves here in Naija, get yo facts right and stop being ignorant.
I personally give 1million likes for dis sensible comment. I just wonder if America ppl dnt have much savings as d OP wants us to blv, how come our yahoo guys & other fraudsters making much money as huge as #20-50million at once sometimes?? Like some here once said, d point of dis debate shuld lie on INDIVIDUALITY. It is absolutely bias not to compare d economy & d amenities one stand to gain as a citizen or resident of both countries.,

ok let do figures, a teacher in London v a teacher in your chosen city.
if you hear of box rooms in london mayB you should change your friend circle, some of do own houses that grow in value,
look at places like some towns in Liverpool or Sheffield, cost of houses are decreasing.

The person who created this tread surely has not traveled before, I'm living in a 3 bedroom flat in delta state, not even in a major town oo, I'm paying rent of 500k per anum, I had to spend 1.2 million naira to get an inverter in my house and I'm still paying light bill oo, that is constant at 30k monthly, mind you the inverter won't last forever oo, food nko, that one I can't tell you how much goes into food weekly not monthly o, then my two kids are there too. Ordinary turkey that I travelled to I swear I did not want to return cos when you step foot out of naija that life you think you're enjoying in naija, you'll then understand that you've been suffering. Naija is hell, everyone cannot be a bank manager in Nigeria that's a fact, stop trying to defend naija, if life in us is that hard people won't give up their jobs in nigeria to travel there, much less those that don't even have jobs. God knows I prefer a self con in us than a 3 bedroom flat here in nigeria. Shi..ke..na!

U pay 500k rent, buy inverter 1.2m u go still call urself poor man? Or unemployed
