I got an interview invite via email by erecuiter team for d position of a retail sales rep,i jux retured for the interview not long ago, and I don't really really dont know how I feel right now cos I was not offered the job...I was asked questions and every step of d way d recruiter always corrects me and I show appreciation, these are d questions below�
1.what do understand by a "retail store"?
Me: a retail store is where retail products are sold
Recruiter: you can't define a question with a question,so u can jux call it " a market place " where retail products are sold.
Me: tank you sir for the correction I appericiate.
2.how can you market our products to our customers?
Me: by having good customer care relationship with customers.
Recruiter:remember customer care and customer service are two different things.
Me: OK sir,by having good customer service relationship with customers.
Recruiter: what else?
Me: listening ear
Recruiter: dats same as customer service what else?
Me: attentiveness ( feeling nervous already)
Recruiter: OK,can you list d kind of retail shop you know?
Me: shoprite,park n shop or even a mall
Recruiter: OK ,buh a mall isn't part of it.
Recruiter: how do you sell a Product you have no knowledge about d shape size etc?
Me: (confusion stroke me) it requires training, I can't sell a product I know nothing about.
Recruiter: I have been trying to put you true everything and still you don't know what "a product you know nothing about is called?
Recruiter: we can't take you!
Me: sir I can do it,I have what it takes please sir.
Recruiter: when did you finish skool
Me: Nov 2012.
Recruiter: what was d title of your project.
Me: ways abortion can be abolished in Nigeria
Recruiter: ways abortion can be abolished
Me: yes sir
Recruiter: hmmmmm sorry we can't take you, thank you for coming

I felt like allowing d ground to swallow me,my heart was in so much pain ,I tot I had found hope but I ended up hopeless and humiliated ,if you analyze this conversation does it look like I went wrong in any way? Your opinions will help me improve and cry too cos I have been crying my eyes out ,I had so much hope on dis job,my transport fare wasted!!!!! Its painful so painful

hey dear, cheer up! it's not the end of life, another opportunity will come but next time make sure you do an research about the role you applied for and also ensure that you make your answers a little longer by bringing in stories, facts bla bla that makes you the right candidate for the job. there are lots of topics on nairaland about how to ace an interview i'll advice you to read them for more information. Forget all these Nigeria recruiters jare. They ask questions as if they know everything. After all the stress Na 20k Dem go pay. That was how my friend after all interview with a white with an oil company the final day they were supposed to meet with the HR manager he told them to bring a guarantor with landed property in a city. If not for the intervention of the white man that told him if that was how he was employed my friend would have lost the job. Guy cheer up another better job will come for you without stress.

i am so sorry sis but i had to rotfl at wen d recruiter ask abt ur project topic and ur response, i swear it was so funny....cheer up friend, dos recruiters got nothing on U, u missed this coz something bigger is on the way, trust me, 1day u ll look bak and be glad dey ddnt take U #cheers

I think your problem was just nerves, you were nervous and it is a normal thing. The guy only made it worse by throwing you off balance seeing as you were already nervous. A good HR person would have tried to put you at ease before continuing. But not to worry, it'll get easier with time.

well u dnt hv to put it to mind,at least u went for this,and got an idea of it,believe me more are coming ur way,the only place you fumbbled wella,na when they ask you your project topic,ur answer was funny,so your project no get case study,...?.....anyway just cheer up!

Some peeps above have already said it all...You were extremely nervous it seemed...Not that you don't know the answers or you ain't an intelligent chap, but you were nervous and jittery and that made you lose track...The HR guy knew that and took advantage...You'll learn as time goes by...Keep on practicing and doing research about possible interview Q&A...

Don't feel sorry for yourself bro, take it as another learning curve and keep on moving...We'll be fine...I promise you we will

I remember my interview with e-recruiter at ShopRite Lagos 4 years ago. Same role interviewed by a white man, I was supposed to be recruited for Apple I think. Right there at the mall, I was interviewed just like you were.

I was not nervous though, because I felt I prepared well. But I fumbled. You see, I felt just like you are feeling now, really bad. But I made sure it never happened again, I practised harder, I lied about my project topics, I tell the interviewers what they want to hear. Fabricated stories that are interesting, Case studies.. I did not let the situation bring me down. To me, they lost an excellent employee.

So you see, instead of crying I will advise u learn from it. Before you go for any interview, get your siblings to interview you at home or do it yourself with your mirror. Prepare like it's the only job left in the world. Prepare so that you never have to leave the room wishing you said something else. By the time you are done, make it a point that the next interview will be your job.

When preparation meets opportunity, success is certain. Never stop believing.

you did research but I am not sure you prepared for the role. I' ll be sincere, you failed most of the questions. What is a retail store? A retail store is a market where product and services are sold to end users/ customers. You don't have to mention retail, when answering questions try you best not to include critical words in the questions when responding. How can you sell a product you know nothing about... by researching the product to get knowledge and information an how to suits customer needs i.e self development/ on the job training. It's not every company that can afford paid training. How can you sell our product... understanding the go to market strategy and the needs of the customers. Next time, prepare broadly!
