The truth about this NDDC scholarship for 2017 is that it might never happen, now we 2017 scholars have to wait for next year for these awards pending when 2015 scholars get paid. 2018 is a bad year for such awards as funding for political position becomes a priority. And then we have to contend with another fresh set to compete with for such awards.

The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Usani Usani,
has ordered the immediate suspension of the
Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC’s
scholarship programme.

The NDDC won’t offer any new scholarship until
the commission clears the backlog of payment
meant for the old beneficiaries, the Ministry of
Niger Delta said Wednesday on Twitter.
There have been protests from several post-
graduate Nigerian students abroad who said that
the NDDC refused to fund its scholarship
scheme, thereby forcing them to go through
shameful hardship on foreign lands.

Those affected are said to be 15 students doing
their Master’s degree and 40 Ph.D. students.
Some of the Ph.D. students have not received
money meant for their tuition and upkeep for
more than one year now.

The NDDC international scholarship is worth
about $30,000 annually. Those doing Masters’
degree are expected to spend only one year on
it, while the Ph.D. is expected to last for three
years.

PREMIUM TIMES in July published a touching
story of Maryleen Ndubuaku , one of the
beneficiaries of the NDDC scholarship, who
couldn’t concentrate on her M.Sc. programme on
Embedded Microelectronics and Wireless
Systems, at the Coventry University, UK, because
she didn’t have money to feed herself.

Ms. Ndubuaku, from a middle-income family in
Imo State, said she resorted to borrowing money
countless times since she couldn’t do a part-time
job because of the demands of her study.
“As I write to you, my exams are commencing
next week but I cannot help but think about how
to pay my rent for the month of May; because it
is she who has shelter and food that thinks of
writing exams,” she said to Nsima Ekere, the
Managing Director of NDDC, in one of her letters
of appeal.

Now that this scholarship issue has been debated on the floor of the Nigerian Senate last week,it was encouraging to see both APC/PDP Senators condem the way the agencies (NDDC) have mis-managed scholars welfare to the embarrassment of the nation. The senate president also lamenting the welfare as being insufficient.
It will be interesting to hear his(MD) defense in his call-up for enquiries.
It musn't always result in these national embarrassments for things to be done properly.

I hope these payments will be done soonest so we can all forge ahead.

The DG RSSDA, resigned citing his "frustrations" in carrying out his functions.
With counter accusations flying accross board all in the name of auditing the funds.
Why shld all these "madness" be displayed?
It is becoming clearer that some people are feeding fat at the expense of scholars.

Senate Planery is usually on wednesdays and its usually aired live on some broadcasting services.

I don't knw if the print media carried the news for further reporting. I currently do not know the proposed date for the meeting b/w the leadership of the senate and faulting agencies.
However, I also feel of the MNDA Ministers reponse to NDDC case may have also been timely to his notification as well from senate displeasure surrounding the issue.
His Ministry went further to state that they donot "micro-manage NDDC but supervise/cordinate their activities" (if u ask me what that means, na who i go ask?)

So, the MD will have to tell the senate why it has been difficult for him to seemlessly administer the scholarship scheme which he promised to sustain.

TROUBLE! N188 Million Fraud Scandal May Land NDDC MD Nsima Ekere in EFCC Net by WetinhappenPR: 2:52pm

Nsima Ekere, the managing director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, is embroiled in another massive financial scandal in which a bank has dragged him to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, demanding a refund of N188 million and prosecution for financial misdeeds.

The alleged fraud dates back to when Nsima Ekere was deputy governor of Akwa Ibom State from May 2011 to October 2012 when he unceremoniously resigned to avoid impending impeachment. According to the bank, the former deputy governor illegally withdraw money from 9 bank accounts belonging to the state government and diverted them to an Ekere family company.

Ekere is also involved in a financial scandal in which a court froze all his accounts in Nigerian banks and ordered the forfeiture of his Ewet Housing property. The details of the case cast the picture of a troubling level of personal financial recklessness.

In a petition exclusively obtained by The Trent titled “PETITION ON FINANCIAL CRIMES AGAINST MR. NSIMA EKERE, MESSRS TECHSEL PRODUCTS LIMITED, MR. IDORENYIN UDO EKERE, DR. ANIEKAN UDO EKERE AND UTIBE IDORENYIN EKERE”, copies of which were sent to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, and other security agencies, the petitioners describe Ekere’s actions as “unconscionable financial crimes” and accuse the NDDC boss of “unlawfully and fraudulently siphoning” the sum of N188 million from the Akwa Ibom State government account.
