Bellfun:Matthew 16:18 Jesus said to Simon, you are Peter (which means rock) and upon you my church will stand and the gates of hell will never prevail against it. John 21:15-18 When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter,* “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?”* He said to him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Feed my lambs.” 16 He then said to him a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Tend my sheep.” 17 He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was distressed that he had said to him a third time, “Do you love me?” and he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” [Jesus] said to him, “Feed my sheep. just a few verses, I would have loved to add more but that will make my post too lengthy mansakhalifa: |

@irynterri I knew someone was gonna dig up Matthew 16:18. But I think we should look at the word "church" beyond the English translation of the bible. |

@irynterri "...a place of worship of God and in this case THAT FOR JESUS..."! With that you just spelt the elbib(bible backwards). Did Jesus ever deem equality with God that he should ask people to have a separate place "place of worship of God and for JESUS(himself)? Before you answer, please take a look at this: Philippians 2:5-6 : Have among yourselves the same attitude that is also yours in Christ Jesus, 6: Who,though he was in the form of God,did NOT regard equality with God something to be GRASPED. So,how did a man who did not regard himself as equal with God commission his disciples, who were mostly fanatical Jews,(one was a Zealot, you can check to find out what that means) to set up a "place of worship" to worship him? And let me remind you the building does not make the "church"! Drop that simplistic "dictionary" definition and start thinking like a real christian. More to come... |

@irynterri If Jesus actually set up a new religion called Christianity, then why did a the 12 disciples and many of his followers who were practicing Judaism continue to practice Judaism years after his death? Even at the time of his death(beheading) apostle Paul, who took the gospel to the gentiles, was still a JEW. The day he was apprehended he was in the temple in Jerusalem(Acts 21:27). I hope you are aware of that fact? So,if the idea was to set up a new religion and place of worship,a church,to worship God and Jesus according to you,can you tell me why the apostles, disciples and many of Jesus' early followers continue to go to the synagogues and temple to worship? Be honest with me. |

mansakhalifa:Let me start the by defining Christainity, it is simply following the teachings of Jesus Christ and Christians are those who follow his teachings, the apostles at first practiced a combination of Judaism and christainity this is evident in Acts 2:46-47 "And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they partook of food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And God added to their number day by day those who are been saved".Acts 2:38-42 testifies to the preaching of the Gospel by Peter saying "Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you shall receive the Holy Spirit....So those who received his word were baptized and there were added that day about three thousand souls. And they devoted themselves to the Apostles' teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. Baptism, breaking of bread, seeking forgiveness through Jesus are not part of the Jewish laws but Christ teachings, at first they fully did not understand their call just the same way even till after Christ death they did not fully understand he will rise again(Luke 24:11)so it was that they did not fully understand at first a worship was to be born, the temple also served as the greatest meeting point to get a large audience just like what facebook is today, hence they also went there to preach the Gospel, the very act which led to continuous imprisonment and harassment and also made them understand a new mode of worship will be formed, you quoted acts 21:27 but you erroneously did not state what he did that led to his arrest, at that point they understood that converted Gentiles can't be allowed to the temple or made to practice their own form of Judaism without them been killed hence they realized to worship in peace they had to have their own place where jews and gentiles can meet without discrimination. it would also be erroneous to say that the apostles practiced Judaism all through their lives because most of them lived outside Jerusalem e. g Paul lived and died in Rome, Mark in Egypt some India etc. Paul also preached the Grace(christainity) over Law(Judaism),in his letter to the Christians in Romans he described himself as Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God, which he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy scriptures, the Gospel concerning his Son, who was descended from David according to the flesh and designated Son of God in post according to the Spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord through whom we have received grace and apostleship to bring about the obedience of faith for the sake of his name among all the nations including yourselves who are called to belong to Jesus.. Grace to you and peace from God the father and the son Jesus Christ, I believe this is not a teaching or faith under Judaism, the Roman,Corinthian,Ephesian Christians to whom Paul wrote letters to must have been meeting in a place for worship, most likely not a temple as there were instructions on how to appoint ministers, how women should dress, duties to be performed etc, that place is called a church, remember also that letters were sent to seven churches in the book of revelation. Lastly, a JEW does not only mean someone who practises Judaism it also means someone whose mother is a Jew,e.g Mark Zuckerberg is a Jew but he does not practice Judaism,Saul practiced Judaism under which he persecuted Christians but when he converted (to a follower of Jesus) he became Paul. Shalom |

mansakhalifa:who is a Christian?a Christian is someone who believes and follows the teachings of Jesus Christ. what is christainity? it is believing and following the teachings of Jesus Christ, Who is Jesus Christ? He is the Word as testified by John 1 In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God.He was in the beginning with God, all things were made through him and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was life and the life was the light of men. The Light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcomed it...And the Word became flesh and dwelt amongst us, full of Grace and Truth.I'm not here to argue on the divinity of God but the verse you quoted implies though he was God he did not boast or show or challenge God the Father, just like saying a humble crown prince is of high royalty like the king but gives him all the honor and Glory. As for the church, I never implied it means a building, in those days churches were in caves and catacombs as the Christians were been persecuted on the regular, it means a gathering of God's people. What did Jesus say? John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life, John 14:6 I am the Way, and the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father except through me, Does Judaism believe this? No, Should they be "Forced" to leave the Law of Moses and believe in the Grace of Jesus? No, that is why Christ said he did not come to abolish the Law but to fulfill it, he came to ensure you and I who are not born Jews but Gentiles hence under the mosaic law are not "God's people" can attain eternal life. How then can that the possible if the High priests and people the temple do not believe in the saving Grace of Jesus Christ and do not hence believe that any one other than a Jew worship God in his temple, allow the Romans, Corinthians and other gentiles? Allow preaching of baptism and breaking of Bread? Allow people to preach that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, No they could not, instead they arrested, killed and harassed them, hence the early Christians had to form there own gathering and common place of worship on the first day of the week (acts 20:7) and that metamorphosed to the church we have now.Instructions were later been given by Paul in His letters to the Corinthians on how to appoint ministers, carry out activities, dress, code of conduct etc |
