Wasn't aware that Nigeria produced steel. Or has Ajaokuta started functioning?

Government should invest in steel production? I totally agree. But it isn't something that can be rushed in time for providing the much needed relief that the refill will being to users of that express way.

Let's Hope that the agreement signed with the Chinese stipulates that at least 80% of the work force must be Nigerians.

To do this,to do that,to build this to build that.
For how long will our politicians continue to use this word "TO"? Every time To yet there is nothing on ground to show for it.During election their keyword will be "To" do this, build that construct this yet we never see anything they are doing. They are only constructing and commissioning with their mouths and on papers!!
its not compulsory to believe them but if you care to know all their project is real, Lagos kano standard guage railway is on going. Confirmed

The process to get projects on course in Nigeria must be fellowed, don't think because a project is announced that means contractors should be at site the following day. That's why you go to school.

In Nigeria today our literacy and education is a waste. I can confirm that from you and many others.

omg! I grew up there.

Still remebered when Jakande was going to do the same install a(monorail to the island) to that same Jibowu bridge in 1983 before the same Buhari came in and scraped it.

Used to walk there to GCL Eric Moore Surelere.

Hopefully it won't be to much of a hassle for commuters and resident close to this attempted project again.

so we award or embark on infrastructure contract that help increase employment, yet Nigeria government allowed the Chinese to import the steel and materials that is needed for this railway. This was a good time to invest in steel production that would be used to produce track for all these railway.
Nigeria government and their bad contract. we borrow money from the Chinese, pay interest, purchase the material from them and hire their own worker. These deals are always bad for Nigerian's

cc:real
Chinese provide the money (by loan with low interest) and tell you they will provide the labour and material. At least you will get t infrastructure and the money can't b looted

They are not bad. China don't do charities. Even western countries don't do charities. Their terms a conditions most of the time damage your economies to their favour. Why do you think most African countries now prefer Chinese loans.
Chinese loans all over is meant to create markets for Chinese goods and labour. So if you are the president, will you prefer low interest rate loan from China that will contribute nothing to your country apart from th infrastructure or the western country or multilateral loan that will damage your country, the loan will most likely be stolen a you won't get the infrastructure but still have to pay back the loan? Are you saying all African countries that favour Chinese loans are fools or unpatriotic buffoons?

lagos is funding the train tracks along that road, that is probably the core reason for the extended time. West africa and FG is doing the road.

FG approves 60% local content for railway projects
The Federal Executive Council has approved a local content policy for the ongoing Lagos-Ibadan standard gauge rail project
Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi disclosed this while monitoring the progress of work on the $1.5bn project.

At the monthly project briefing yesterday were the Secretary to the Lagos State Government, Mr Olatunji Bello, the Managing Director of Lagos Metropolitan Area Transportation Authority (LAMATA) Mr Abiodun Dabiri, for Lagos State Government, the Ogun State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure Mr Olalekan Adegbite, Chairman of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Engr Usman Abubakar, the Managing Director, Engr. Fidet Okhiria, and staff of CCECC, the contractor handling the project.
Under the local content policy, he said the contractor has been directed to ensure that nothing less than 60 percent is reserved for local sourcing of manpower.

I think you are only hindering progress.. Lagos state has beyond doubt shown that they stick to their words.. Eko Atlantic city that we thought was a hoax is a reality..

Modified.. You were right
Not only is he/she hindering progress, worse still he's calling people to mediocrity. No wonder people stay stagnant. So we should not connect the country with standard gauge rail systems....because hates the govt in power? Some people are just pathetically ridiculous

Don't see how custain bridges come into play yet. And its definitely sm mediocre railway system dat no decent person may comfortably wana use as usual dats main problem.
Bros,

Simple logic - both the Costain and Jibowu bridge are on the ROW of the high speed rail. They are old bridges, and may not withstand the impact of the "stress" (span, speed and vibration) that the new train will bring.

You get?

The only thing that this government will end up doing is taking a snapshot of Amaechi uncompleted monorail and then splash it all over social media through the likes of Cleverly Deomelo and Goke7 then tjpse ones will now start swearing that the project is 89% completed whereas you are standing underneath the destroyed Jibowu bridge grin
Abii oo... Just the same way some slimy pdp/jonathanian fraudsters took screen shots of computer generated images of roads in Cameroon just before the last general elections and claimed GEJ had built 25,000km of world standard roads including the Lagos-Ibadan, Onitsha-Enugu, PH-Enugu, Benin-Lokoja, PH-Owerri, Elele-Owerri, 2nd Niger Bridge etc.
they also claimed that GEJ revolutionized the railways

SmartMugu:
Why destroy the existing bridges when the rail can be channeled above them or underground? We've seen that done in many countries around the world.
In any capital project of this nature, you perform cost benefit analysis before you come to some conclusion. All the "why this; why that" question you're asking have been considered. Take for example, asking them to reroute from the Jibowu bridge..... the question is to where? Do you live in Lagos and are you family with both Jibowu and Costain environs? If they are to reroute, do you know the number of houses they will demolish?

Secondly, you ask they should do underground? well that is another terrain entirely. Aside costs, I am not sure if that would have been economically feasible at this stage. Sub-surface Lagos is mostly water. Virtually the whole of Costain axis for example is a "floating" environ, stretching up to National Arts Theatre. It will take some high-level investment in underground drilling and casement technology to pull that off. In addition cost of running such underground is also a factor.

Putting all these together, I believe it is more cost effective to pull down the two bridges. The combined length of both bridges is not up to 1km, so putting it back up should not be a problem, as such would have been factored in the contract
Re: FG To Demolish Costain, Jibowu Bridges For Lagos/ibadan Standard Gauge Rail Line by mfm04622: 9:33am On Nov 07, 2017
IkemChris:
These people are clueless. So is there no way to re route the tracks? Considering the fact that the bridges they are talking about is very important to people in Lagos. Why can't we use the cost for demolition to do other things like re-aligning the bridge of the railroad track to pass through other routes or if possible increasing the height of the railroad bridge. Don't start what you can't finish Mr Minister
Do you think all those have not been checked?
