cstr1000:For an issue which has absolutely nothing to do with tribe, but the first thing which comes to your mind is tribe? No! you are definitely very tribal, and that's the only reason you think everyone else swims in your pool; you're only capable of viewing and interpreting everything from the myopic tribal and ethnic point of view, else I cant rationalise how tribe came into this thread. 1 Like 1 Share |

ivandragon: I am a known supporter of the Buhari regime and one who will not waste time to castigate the government when merited or even call for Buhari's impeachment over the Maina saga. However, I will not sit back and watch anarchists like you try to make mockery over everything this government attempts to achieve. You posted a news and your purpose was to castigate the amount like a slowpoke who knows nothing, in a bid to have other ignoramuses who don't even know what salary they deserve to earn as graduates, come online and begin to wail over an amount their lack of exposure has defined as outrageous. You have not provided the least technical defence to your position. As far as you are concerned, it is much because you have said so, and everyone else must agree with you. However, I have more exposure than that. $2m on a web portal is nothing as long as it is worth the value. As for it not being fully functional, even the news report had already alluded to the need of trained people to run it, while also stating clearly that an aspect of the portal features would only be available in Q1 of 2018. You don't have to be so miserable hopping about and looking for what to wail over. Shame on you. 1 Like 1 Share |

greenek: Let me put this in perspective. I think the first place to start is to use google, or ask those who are in the business what ERP is and what value an ERP project will cost a medium to large-size organisation? Secondly for you to ask what ERP is, signifies that you are not conversant with the software/solution projects. If this premise is correct then making bold statements to adduce fraud to the cost of deployment of a solution portal is somewhat deceptive. I believe a simple and honourable thing to have done is to first ask if this is realistic and let those that have knowledge in it explain (who knows? it might be bloated). To now make bold and assertive statements and claim it is fraud (on a totally ignorant premise) But when someone says "visit the website and tell me if it is worth N700m...." just tells me such a person is totally ignorant and arrogantly displaying his ignorance So the ERP project I superintended consisted of the following 1. Financials 2. HR 3. Supply Chain 4. Materials Management 5. Logistics Now all these work at the background, but most solutions are web-enabled, so what you see at the front-end is just a web pages, making it look like you simply launch a website. In software business, licensing cost takes a huge chunk. This is where you're really paying for the intellectual property/patented knowledge. If my memory serves me right we paid over 350k Euros for the first 50 user license(phase 1) and 420k upgraded to 150users at phase 2, then you pay deployment cost, annual maintenance, updates and upgrades, training (some of your users are flown abroad for training). Then when you consider user support, which is billed per hour, the cost keep going up Pls note, I cannot give you fine details beyond this level, as this is my company's confidential information. I hope this serves..... 1 Like 1 Share |

Nbote: Let me also take this offer 1. “The portal was designed for mining investors to perform business processes such as online mining licences and mineral titles applications, online payment of royalties and fees, database for revenue drive and to block revenue leakages. Let me lay the above is simplistic tersm 1. First off, it will enable govt to establish every single extractive mineral in the country (GIS enabled) and put a value on it. As such govt can now know what revenue should have come in when a quantum of such is extracted. Monies goes straight to govt and well accounted for 2. Business Intelligence/Analytics can be connected to economic forecasts and planning. In some cases, we can sell resources underground for a future date at any agreed factor of variables (e.g. inflation, revaluation etc) 3. This will help in valuation. As we speak we do not even know the volume and value of minerals we have underground as they are not well tracked and reported in an organised manner. May be this is why we have struggled with getting investors in the sector and also why illegal miner have had their sway. 4. We can make sure that all miners are legal and illegal ones fished out. This also address increase in revenue to govt 5.Just like I mention in 2 above, the portal will help for example a typical minister of Budget and Economic planning to see other projected revenue sources 5yrs ahead of time, Minister of works can come up with a 25yr infrastructure road-map as he will have a better line-of-sight to the quantum volume of limestone and bitumen that can be extracted to accommodate such plans. These are just few ones from a distant observer like me. People in the system will tell you more value-offerings. Now imagine the returns this is bound to bring to the country going forward and reconcile it with the N700m investment.....I leave you to judge that yourself 3 Likes 3 Shares |

Infact, those many portals can be regarded as parent portals of other constituent portals. While I don't know how much it must have cost to set it up and continue to maintain it and expand it, I can bet it is no small millions of dollars. 1 Like 1 Share |

Throwback:Yes, it is. When compared to their respective governments. America blows more dollars on weaponry than the next 5 countries combined. A major part of that is because they can afford to print as much dollars as they want and the rest of the world will pick up the slack. Nigeria cannot afford to waste dollars because you don't have enough to begin with. 7OO million Naira is like 700 million dollars when compared to the scale of wealth of the US in dollars. |

Ebuka2016:Throwback: :bro look at the website we are talking about here www.minesandsteel.gov.ng. According to a user here. Now tell me, how does this stupid website justify 700 million naira?? Hey God. You see, this shows me virtually all of you are ignorant. You do not even know the right link and how the portal looks. You are quoting the link to the ministry's official website, which is not the web-portal for the integrated GIS solution. This quoted link is also for the ministry's information just like any ministry, department or association will have a website. The correct link is http://gisportal.minesandsteel.gov.ng/gisportal/home/ Ideally if you have a basic knowledge you would have know that to access the correct link, you look for "portal" (or a correct link reference) among the menu options 1 Like 1 Share |

I do not have double standards, nor am I a hypocritical cry baby. the issue has always been, is the website worth the amount spent? you keep running around in circles with your fellow miscreants deceiving yourselves with websites/portals whose businesses are key to their survival... now tell me, beyond providing information, what else does the site have? but hey, you can choose to remain in your filth of accumulated stupidity... your problem, not mine... |

I was there for the launch yesterday at Sheraton Hotel, Ladi kwali hall. frankly, the portal is worth the money if you consider the level of work that have been put in to integrate all the information it has. and its also interactive. data gathering especially when its interactive no be childs play. its what orgsanizations like UN and FAO do thats why they pay them very well. 1 Like 1 Share |

Nbote: Bros, Let me respectfully say this, you need to be educated on how things like this works. I see that you are "innocently" so ignorant (no pun intended). But let me try and paint the picture in simple terms as possible....... first off I am not from the mining sector, but the oil and gas sector and we sort of have semblance in the way "resources" are extracted. 1. "Is the "website" going to be generating geoscience data and information on its own or simply a platform to provide d data d sector has....". First and foremost, all the minerals needs to be located, mapped and tracked. Geo-scientists will perform some seismic imaging of the sub-surface layers of ground and the imagine patterns are compared to the documented characteristics of some minerals, so that they can "guess" which minerals are where. This seismic imagining in itself will span several kilometers, the data is recorded in a database and it will be sent to a lab to process and interprete. This is what will help them to improve their precision on the location of particular minerals. At what point the "website" comes in is relative, but if you consider the "nature" of the data and how it will be interpreted into business information, then you will appreciate the scientific work that goes into the programming. It only comes out in "websites" so that lay-men like you and I can make meaning out of it and make business decisions. Hence my argument that anybody that call this "website" is simply ignorant. 2. "Shldn't dey b more concerned with carrying out a comprehensive and up to date research to determine what minerals are found where and in wat quantities?" I can assure you that even before this govt came in, both academics and business community does this on an ongoing basis. The challenge in this context is to have a central location where the results all these researches can be warehoused in an organised manner and used for making investment decisions. If you saw the result of researches by geology professors in Nigeria about minerals in a particular area, it will be useless to you and I as it will speak too many jargons. Someone needs to aggregate and organise them in business-ready form 3. "Some Chinese had to help us discover a mineral somewhere in d south south by jus scrapping d surface." I do not know in what form or what surface they scratched to discover these minerals, but let me also assure you that if their discovery is not backed by data, they themselves cannot ascertain the quantity that is underground. They will just be doing trial by error and it will be sub-optimal. 4. "If U know where what is found U'll know how to kip d illegal stuff in check and where to point investors to. Investors would b beta encouraged wen dey see how d local business thrives." Knowing "where it is found" in this context is not simply what people tell you. Investment in the mining sector is capital intensive. Which bank or international financial institution will simply put down money based on "where it is found" ? This is where data comes in. There should be a portal, devoid of human intervation, where "mineral data" and information can be assessed by any investor anywhere in the world, any financial institution especially when a potential investor approaches them on his intention to prospect and extract minerals in Nigeria. They need to corroborate what the investor is claiming from a certified source. This is an "open source" for anybody to extract such information. As per seeing local investors as incentive for international investors, my simple answer to you is this is not the case. Our mining industry is virgin at the moment, it is yet to be well organised and coordinated. Most of the so-called local investors turn out to be illegal miners, especially foreigners. Then when we talk about foreign investors, we are looking for people that will make investment in $billion like South Africa & Namibia. 5. "There's a whole lot than can b done but d website expenditure shldnt b at d top of d list or an achievement dey shld brag about" Seeing it as a "website" or an "achievement" speaks to the need for you to understand what the mining industry is all about. With this "website" work is actually just about to start, "achievement" is probably 5yrs away 1 Like 1 Share |
