I too would not be surprised.
Wait, is this the exception to the rule? Lost in translation, what!
you know what i mean China made many craps compared with japanese or western ones. But those joint-venture made usually better than purely local made, the same in India, and I guess in Africa too, because they(the foreign manufacturer) reserve or hold patent some technology.even if they allow to local assemble some cars but still hold secret core technology such as engine ,gearbox, ects.

This is common not only in auto industry, but in aviation industry and defense industry as well.only in recent years, the technical gap has been narrowed.

Argentina searches for missing navy submarine

(CNN)An Argentine navy submarine with 44 crew members has been missing for three days after the navy lost contact with it off the country's Atlantic coast, the military service says.

The ARA San Juan submarine was last spotted Wednesday in the San Jorge Gulf, a few hundred kilometers off the coast of southern Argentina's Patagonia region, the navy said.
Crews are searching for the vessel by air and sea, navy spokesman Enrique Balbi told reporters Friday.
The submarine had been traveling from a base in far southern Argentina's Tierra del Fuego archipelago to its home base in Mar del Plata, a city hundreds of miles to the northeast. The sub's last known location in the San Jorge Gulf is nearly midway between the bases.
The vessel had been due to arrive at its destination Sunday.
Officials hope the crew would bring the sub to the surface, if possible, Balbi said.
"The submarine knows that if it does not have communication with land for this long, it has to surface," Balbi said.
News of the search struck a chord in the Vatican. Pope Francis, an Argentina native and a former archbishop of Buenos Aires, offered his "fervent prayers for the 44 officers aboard the ARA San Juan" in a message released on his behalf Saturday by Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican's secretary of state.
Francis encouraged efforts to find the vessel and "asks that his closeness be conveyed to their families and to the military and civil authorities of the country in these difficult moments," the message reads.
Search efforts
The Argentine navy said it ordered "all terrestrial communication stations along the Argentine coast to carry out a preliminary and extended search of communications and to listen into all the possible frequencies of the submarine."
The US Navy said it was helping. It planned to deploy a P8-A Poseidon maritime aircraft to Argentina on Saturday, the US Naval Forces Southern Command said in a statement.
The 21-person US crew had been in El Salvador supporting "counter-illicit trafficking patrol operations," the agency said in a statement. The aircraft also had assisted in a search for a South Korean ship that sank in April in the South Atlantic, and more recently, it was sent to Dominica in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria.
NASA also will help in the search with a P-3 Orion aircraft, agency spokeswoman Katherine Brown told CNN. She said the US plane was "already in Argentina on a scientific mission."
The P-3 is a turboprop aircraft capable of long-duration flights, according to NASA.
CNN's Diane Ruggiero, Spencer Feingold and Marilia Brochetto contributed to this report.

u have to see the big picture

trade war is always present between countries be it friends or enemies

china owes its economic rise to USA , and as a quid pro quo china helped USA by buying US bonds

china is/was already in trade war with US, only thing is that china does it quietly since it is ruled by a single party who is answerable to none.
USA is/was already in trade war with china, only thing is that US does it loudly since it is a democracy and has to play to the vote bank gallery.

interesting .........

copy paste

When the then US Deputy Secretary of Defense, Ashton Carter, arrived in India on September 16, 2013 for a two-day visit, he came equipped with a proposal aimed at dramatically boosting US-India military-industrial relations.
The proposal called for

1) licence-production of the FGM-148 Javelin through 97% transfer of manufacturing technology, but withholding the target recognition algorithms of the MWIR seeker (meaning the seeker’s focal plane array sub-assembly would have to be imported off-the-shelf from Raytheon).

2) co-developing with the DRDO’s Research Centre Imaarat (RCI) and its associated Sensors Research Society (SRS) a fourth-generation version of the Javelin that will feature a dual-mode seeker, hyperbaric warhead, and a longer range of up to 4km.

This very same offer, under the auspices of the Defence Trade and Technology Initiative (DTTI), was repeated by the then US Secretary of Defence Chuck Hagel, who reached India on August 8, 2014 for a three-day visit.

In fact, by early 2015 private company VEM Technologies had already fabricated a full-scale prototype of the FGM-148 Javelin that was displayed at the Aero India 2015 expo.

copy paste.....

DRDO has since 2013 been co-developing a third-generation MPATGM along with VEM Technologies.

The RCI has since then developed the all-composite rocket motor casing, MEMS-based redundant micro-navigation system (RMNS), as well as a new-generation IIR sensor that employs semiconductors using indium gallium nitride and aluminum gallium nitride alloys for the RCI-developed 1024-element staring focal plane arrays operating in the ultra-violet bandwidth that give better solar radiation rejection.

User-evaluations of the definitive MPATGM are expected to commence next year, with bulk production commencing later. Both VEM Technologies and BDL will be contracted for mass-producing the MPATGM. As a fall-back measure, in the event of the RCI-developed MWIR sensor not maturing within the given deadline (primarily due to the challenges of developing the all-important target recognition algorithm), then the option of importing the Javelin’s LWIR sensor sub-assembly for integration with the MPATGM still remains open.

personally i believe there r 2 types of man portable ATGMs being developed
one via DRDO public sector route- MPATGM
and another via VEM technologies private sector route- JASMINE ATGM (what kind of bleeping name is it for a weapon grin angry grin )
with both feeding each other in terms of technology and common industrial base

this dual route is being favored recently for all recent projects eg . ATAGS artillery

drdo FLAME stands for - Fagot Launcher Adapted to Milan Equipment.

Fagot here refers 9K111 Fagot ATGM (NATO reporting name - AT-4 Spigot) which India operated with BMP-1 vehicles. Konkur-M (NATO reporting name - AT-5b Spandrel) which is the current ATGM on BMP-2 is further development of AT-4 and utilizes a same flame launcher.

The FLAME launcher which has been adapted from AT-4 missile is 9P135M; and could fire both AT-4/AT-4C and Konkur-M/AT-5B missile.

Further, there are two versions of FLAME launcher -
(a) FLAME-G: Ground version to be used for Milan-2 missile.
(b) FLAME-V: Mounted version which can fire both Milan-2 and Konkur-M/AT-5B missile. and which can also be used in dismounted role. This build flexibility and mechanized troops can use Milan-2/2T if required.

With help of Thermal sight, It has night fighting capability

fagot angry seriously grin grin grin grin grin
