If only you could use all this moronic verbosity to prove ifeajuna or nzeogwu were not Igbo instead of wasting it on empty and useless rants, your life could actually have more meaning but alas, we expect in vain!! angry
Most of the officers of the Nigerian Army then were Igbo, providing excellent canon fodder for propagandists like you. But at the end of the day, the coup was a pro Awo coup and not an Igbo coup.

General Chiwenga of Zimbabwe recently led a coup to remove Mugabe and install his rival Mnagagwa as President of Zimbabwe. What makes you feel the coupists of Jan 1966, didn't have a similar plan to install Awolowo in Balewa's seat?
The most potent evidence was that the coupist in Zimbabwe was in touch with the ousted vp and when Mugabe refused to quit the vp was reported to be on his way back home from exile.

How can the January 15 group have such a major plan and not hint their would be principal? What If he refused to have anything to do with them? In the execution of the coup and for the short time they controlled the country no group was sent to open negotiations with Awolowo in prison or release him from jail.

They made it clear in their speech that all the politicians were bad

After all fell apart one of the wanted guys suddenly remembered Awolowo and how some sympathy can be bought by associating with his name.

Some one mentioned Awolowo rivals to be Akintola and Balewa's, what of Zik, Okpara and Osadebe, are they Awolowo allies, yet they were spared

Awo was in prison, if at all there was any communication, it would be limited and dificult. Mnagagwa was in exile.

Ironsi and Ojukwu (Igbos) did not let the pro Awo coupists take control. Most officers then were Igbo- that explains the Igbo names flowing generously on both the pro government forces and the pro Awo forces sides.

What was Awo's role in it's planing and execution? Did the murderous mutineers ask Awo if he'd have been OK or justified to take over after the shedding of so much blood including that of the pregnant wife of brig general Ademulegun?

Mnagagwa was a willing and active participant in the coup. He, Mugabe and Chiwenga had always been allies in the repression of the opposition in Zimbabwe for years and to underscore this, not only was no blood shed, Mugabe was given full immunity meaning na still mmamadu things.

What was the relationship between Awo and Ifeajuna(Zik's cousin)? Do you have any evidence to show Awo and Ifeajuna, Nzeogwu etc were collaborators in a coup that cost so many people their lives just for Awo to become prime minister?

Which assertions? That Mugabe and Mnagagwa were allies since their guerilla war to end white minority rule? Or that Chiwenga was/is also their ally? Or that there was no bloodshed? Or that Mugabe was given immunity?

@ bolded.............abi o jare!!! I guess they were Awo's bosom pals grin (Ore kori ko sun)

These folks are so mischevious, it's unbelievable. Very soon, they will start telling us that the january coupists were in collaboration with Awo whilst he was incarcerated in calabar prison.

It's also instructive to note that for the brief period Nzegeow held sway in the north and was threatening to march down south and displace Ironsi, he did not at any time mention anything about Awo or the fact that they aim to release him from jail and make him the next Prime minister.

All this malicious, fake twisted bigoted propaganda never lasts long. Open your eyes and read well

"It may well be added that it was Awolowo’s
participation in Gowon’s administration that enabled
him to get a copy of the Ifeajuna manuscript.
A copy was sent to him by a well-wisher who thought
he should know about the plans that the January 15
1966 coup makers had had in store for him. It was in
similar fashion that he got a copy of the transcripts of
the Enugu meeting after the tapes were said to have
been captured at the fall of Enugu and the take over of
the Eastern Nigerian Broadcasting service by Federal
Forces. Awolowo had the two documents in safe
keeping when I became his Private (Political) Secretary
in June 1978."

"Of interest is that in spite of the famed unreliability of Ifeajuna, none of the narratives written about the Nigerian crisis by the principal protagonists Alexander Madiebo, Ademoyega, Ben Ghulie, and Hilary Njoku have differed in any substantial sense apart from turns of phrases, from the core of what Ifeajuna wrote in the white hot heat of the moment that followed the coup.
The contentious issue over their choice of Awolowo has
been repeated by the participants in the core group that
set out to change the government before they were
overtaken by Ironsi, and the echelon that surrounded
Ojukwu in Kano who would not allow Nzeogwu to make
use of troops in that city to march on Lagos as he had
planned to do after he discovered that the coup was
botched in the South."

Read his post again my bro for your info I am in support of Ironsi's Decree 34 totally based on the reasons given. You don't expect Ironsi to hold on to the corrupted regionalism the politicians enjoyed then!

The 1966 coup, whose primary objective was to impose Awolowo (then in jail after conviction for an earlier coup plot) as Prime Minister, really set Nigeria backwards.
