Is Governance All About Fighting Corruption by badoh(op): 12:38pm On Dec 03, 2017
I have watched with keen interest how the supporters of President Buhari and Atiku Abubakar have been trying to sell their candidates ahead of the 2019 general election.
One of those things that is drawing us back as a nation is that we allow ethnic coloration to blindfold us and our religious differences to dictate to us. There are better people out there with digital way of thinking and could take this country to a greater height if given the opportunity. However, we are always quick to come to a conclusion that someone is too young to lead, he's not from my geopolitical zone.
If eventually, we are settling for one between buhari and Atiku, each of them need to be appraised on his achievements.
Buhari is known to have zero tolerance for corruption and has displayed this by fighting corruption but no one has been convicted unlike the days of OBJ.However, does governance involves fighting corruption alone. Has he been able to turnaround the economy?. Has the price of goods reduced?,has security improved? what about several job losses These questions are left for the populace to answer.
On Atiku's part, he was labelled as been corrupt even though no court has ever convicted him. He even challenged anyone with evidence of him being corrupt to present their evidences. He was also been accused that he dare not fly to America else he will be arrested. But the question is does he have the leadership qualities to rule this country. Can he turn around this country for better. He may not have the political will to fight corruption but can his leadership acumen be a subject of doubt? Ladies and gentlemen, who do you think is fit for the job between the two political heavyweight

I always laugh so hard and thereafter get very sad anytime it becomes clearer that most Nigerians do not even know the root cause of their problems.

Lack of character, in other words; corruption is the sole barrier to development. Please, take your time to read how countries like singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, and all the Nordic countries developed.

You will notice I didn't bother to mention western Europe, Japan and North America because even though they used the same method, they have a long history which may confuse us. I only mentioned the countries that transformed right in front of us. cry

Hear it clearly now, buhari didn't come to prosper the economy as most people expected. He came to set the foundation for that. No doubt, he will make huge mistakes along the line. First things first.

As for atiku, being successful in the very corrupt and no merit Nigerian business environment does not transform into good leadership.

Be warned!

Does it matter the initial reason for jante's law? I think what matters is that they've been able to remodel it for their own good. The Asians also remodeled Confucianism to neo-confucianism. We are all witness to what is happening there. Please bear in mind that the jante's law is not a legal document.

Yes, Social behaviors have serious influences on any country's political and economic progress. Social behaviors influences how people vote, talk, work etc. With such mindset, people elected to lead will definitely enact policies that are in line with those social behaviors = "free market capitalism with a comprehensive welfare state and collective bargaining at the national level, they are practicing social democracy" are these not refined characteristics of Jante's law and neo confucianism?

Nigeria does not need jante's law to develop. What it needs is a refined jante's law and neo confucianism remodeled to suit our environment and culture.

With remodeled jante's law and neo confucianism in Nigeria, nepotism, ethnic and religious bigotry will be gone. These vices are the foundation on which corruption stands. You can't get rid of corruption in Nigeria without getting rid of all these.

Remodeled jante's law and neo confucianism does not care if you are Hausa or Efik, it just goes ahead to treat you the same. "you are not better than us".

Every country that has been able to stamp out corruption and go ahead to develop used this model. Nigeria can't be an exception. It's natural law law for sustainable progression.
This was my post on another thread.

Fighting corruption is all about just talking about fighting corruption.

Does this make any sense to you?

Does it look like Buhari and his failed government know anything about these countries you are talking about?

Non of these countries scared investors away because of phantom "character".

They invited investors to their countries to take advantage of cheap labor.

They encouraged internal entrepreneurial spirits.

They inculcated science, mathematics and technology in their educational curricula.

These countries are free market economies with all the flaws and correction mechanism of capitalism, not feudalistic enclaves where herds of cattle have rights to own land above human beings.

Their leaders didn't go about calling all their people THIEVES.

They went all their ways to invite foreign capitals, technology and goodwill to their countries.

And they did all these with a clear vision of PROSPERING their people not laying imaginary foundations in the air.

I'm all for every single ideas you put up there. If you have time, go through some of my previous comments on this forum. You will confirm that.

What I'm simply saying is that all these you mentioned are not sustainable without character. Without character, if you like employ professors of electricity, metallurgical and petroleum engineering from Europe to man our ministries of power, steel and petroleum.....it will fail in a short time.

These developed countries only write the economic and political principles/models when narrating how they developed. They hardly write about their social and mental construct believing that every human already knows that. But they are wrong, black Africa hardly knows that lack of transparency, orderliness, honesty, due process......in other words, lack of character are recipe for major underdevelopement.

If you have lived even for a short while in those developed environment and see why and how things work, you wouldn't have tried to counter this character thing.

Character is key even in your little business, family, townhall groups etc. But if you tell me that maybe Buhari is not living up to the character needed, I could agree to an extent with you.

Until black Africa (except Botswana) understands this character thing, we will still be talking about the sad state of Nigeria in 50 years time. It's a given.
