It means the car was FINANCED most likely. Cena probably doesn't fully own the title yet at the time of sale. Just bcuz it says it is his car doesn't mean it is fully paid for.

Purchasing a car in a country infested with interest (capitalism) doesn't mean the car is his. In that case Cena breached the contract.

Actor John Cena took delivery of a custom 2017 GT in September, then sold the coupe not even a month later — an audacious violation of the purchase contract he signed, which bound owners to hold onto their cars for at least two years.

For such treason, Ford sued Cena in U.S. District Court last week, seeking more than $75,000 in damages.

Cena paid $466,376.50 for the liquid blue coupe with the “Dark Energy” interior and made a video about taking delivery of the car around September 23.

Not long after that love-fest, sometime around October 20, the GT had a new owner.

Ford called Cena a few days later when it heard about the sale, and said Cena breached the agreement.

The ex-WWE wrestler is alleged to have later texted Ford, “I completely understand and as stated, I’m willing to work with you and Ford to make it right.

“My sincerest apologies,” and explained the sale was “for cash to take care of expenses.”

Ford’s lawsuit alleges Cena never made it right, after snagging “a handsome profit.”

Ford wants restitution for that profit, for “damages and losses, including, but not limited to, loss of brand value, ambassador activity, and customer goodwill due to the improper sale,” and for an attorney and court costs.

The whole situation is kind of kooky, considering Cena’s car collection numbers roughly 22 cars, one of them a 2006 Ford GT.

Ford is not the only company with such an agreement. In the USA, you are not allowed to purchase cars such as Mercedes, Honda, Range Rovers etc, and turn around an export them immediately.

If caught doing so, you could be banned from purchasing any brand new car from any dealer of those brands and could face legal action.

It is almost impossible to purchase American spec Mercedes from a US dealer for export en mass.....they will typically send you to their European dealers.

Why? Mercedes which costs $100,000 in the US costs 100,000 British pounds.

I somewhat agree, but Ford may have a "Phyrric win" and Sena may have the bigger win. Let say he sold the car for like $600-700k, he can then pay off the penalty and walk away with pricey sum. What I see as getting more interesting is that a kind of "new market" will be created where premium/customised cars will be resold at a faster rate than car makers can make, control, and keep as premium.

Relax , calm your girlie tits.. Cena is an influencer, brand ambassador, a celeb etc. So terms and conditions while existing are very flexible for such people. well, you are right but I'm just telling you that's how it works. You go to car dealer, choose car you want, put application on it, your credit is pulled, if you qualified you are approved. If your want to put down payment or zero down, no problem. It means you finance(purchased) the car and since your name is on it, it is yours. However, bank or finance company owns lien on the title.

The usual agreement is you have to own the car for at least 18 months to 24 months before you can upgrade. You can't just say you don't want the car anymore and want to exchange it for another one. They would tell you to wait. So that's why I thought he breeched the contract by selling the car less than 2yrs. I know what I'm talking about. They don't have to say he financed the car or leased it, perhaps, out of respect for him.

Truth be told, I'm not 100% in his case bcuz I don't know how he would sell the car if the title is not cleared or dealer still own lien on it. That's where I'm a little bothered. But if he paid cash for the whole thing, he has right to do whatever he wants with it. They simply did not want to publicize his financing in my opinion. If he owned the car 100%, they have no business with him. But they come after him to get their fair share shows that it was a financed car, buddy.
