A car with a solar panel on the roof would solve the problem of where to charge. But it will be damn too costly.

bro, you don't have to rely on the gen. As I said, you could get a 1kw solar setup to charge your car for you. Or if you drive to the office and there is light, you can work out a way with management, or security guys to be charging your car while at work when you park.

Solar panels will only get cheaper trust me! It's just that our currency is so messed up, that reduced costs sometimes don't reflect here due to inflation. Still though, panels will get cheaper an cheaper. You can get 1kw panels for about 200k now.

AS FOR LONG TRIPS THOUGH, yes, you are right, you might get stuck sadly embarassed I don't foresee charging stations in Nigeria, unless the demand rises and smart entrepreneurs see the new trend and fill the need. Till then, you may not be able to take your electric car from Lagos to Abuja and back again, unless you plan to lodge in some hotel overnight and charge it there.

Still though, if you just drive to work and back home and other side trips here and there, there is PLEEEEENTY of range in and Electric Vehicle to put your current I.C.E to shame, even in this Naija. Dude 480km on a single charge is no joke men.

The nigger didn't read the article, he just commented based on the topic

Nice article by the way

my own design. has a PV board on the car roof to help charge battery on the move.just like an an alternator... how n ohow abt that?NEPA will definitely f-up and idea of using fuel powered gen to charge the car is not cool...PV is the only way out to maintain a continuous charge..installed right on the roof...anything is possible
Re: Petrol Scarcity Again? It's Time For Nigerians To Go Electric by Nobody: 7:22am On Dec 06, 2017
the problem most Nigerians have is that they refuse to embrace technology, when you give them a solution to their own problem, they still dont want it. Now, people are asking 'where is the light to charge it', right now that there is fuel scarcity, where is the fuel to power your car?. Do you think about how much money you waste to refill your car everytime?
Of course, there have always been alternatives to NEPA, you have your gen, you have solar energy. I cant wait for electric vehicles to hit Nigeria, if you dont want to buy, continue using your petrol vehicle. Is not by force to buy electric car. Just know that the fumes you generate with your car kills people.

As at Today 6th of December 2017, Proliferation of Electric vehicles around the world would be a doomsday for Nigeria , in fact the catastrophic effect would be so gargantuan that it could catapult this fragile civil rule into a state of quagmire .

Think about it!

it was funny though... To answer your question... It is electrical energy to mechanical energy.. So you will need mechanic to do the work... Any electrical fault that is, if it is not charging, or circuit got damage, that is the work of electrician...

Still living im dream world. When was the last time nepa gave u light?
How many electric cars can cover 500km on a single charge.
How Many electric cars can be fully charged in 1hr.
Electric cars are not d solution for transport in nigeria today.
I suggest u leave ur laptop for at least 1hr a day, get some sunlight and see the real world, good for the brain.

for all those asking where and how to charge.

supercharging stations will replace fuel stations. 30mins to full charge.

EnigmaticEnigma, I watched a documentary on the Tesla 3 model. What people don't know is that this car has the ability to recharge itself (battery). Like you said, 480km no be joke. That is like travelling from Abuja to Kano and still have charge left to move around town.
My problem with Nigerians is that we don't think. I see comments I weak. Change is what is constant. We should all be prepared!

@OP, are you normal? I mean, are you normal? Ele what? It seems you just arrive from one planet. Let me educate you, the only solution to fuel scarcity in Nigeria is to introduce cars that will be using water, you heard me, water. That's the only solution anything apart from that is dead before arriving. Me wey never see light charge phone talk more of car.

If to charge a car takes 30mins then people should be ready to spend 6 to 12 hours waiting for their turns to charge.

If you are a transporter for instance you know what 30mins means.

And you will generate electricity to charge your cars... how exactly?

Since Nigerian power generation and distribution infrastructure is almost non-existent (serving under 10% of all needs), you will again rely on generators. Ok, cool, you can have it at home, but you still need to buy fuel for it. And to take any longer journey, you will need to recharge somewhere. And that is where the trouble begins.

Serving under 10% of all needs?you sure if that?
