Osinbajo: Anambra is Nigeria’s industrial hope

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo has said Anambra State is the industrial hope of Nigeria.

The vice-president spoke yesterday during his one-day visit to Nnewi and Onitsha, the state’s major commercial cities.

Osinbajo visited Chicason Group, Pokobros Group, Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company, among others.

The professor of law described the Chairman and Chief Executive of Chicason Group, Dr Chika Okafor as one of leading industrialists in Africa.

He assured that the Federal Government would address power and foreign exchange challenges to mitigate the harshness industrialists faced.

Osinbajo said the Federal Government was passionate about supporting local manufacturers to excel, not only in Anambra but across the country.

He said the Muhammdu Buhari administration would give companies the necessary support they needed to succeed.

Osinbajo said the government had also adopted a policy of buying locally manufactured goods to encourage local manufacturers.

The vice-president added that during the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Wednesday the government ordered that Innoson vehicles be distributed to the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC).

At Chicason Group in Nnewi, he said: “I’m inspired; I’m impressed by what is happening here at Chicason Group, especially the number of people employed by his companies. President Buhari is more inspired.”
He expressed delight at the productivity level in Nnewi, saying the industrial heartland of Nigeria.

Osinbajo said: “I have heard and seen many of the Innoson Motors in Abuja as well as many other goods produced in companies, like Chikason, Tummy Tummy and other business concerns in Nnewi.

“I was at Onitsha before coming to Nnewi. I must state that I am overwhelmed by the level of ingenuity, creativity and productivity of the manufacturers here.

“The vehicles produced at IVM are top quality. I have equally seen the large number of young men and women employed by these concerns.

I wish Anambra industrialists also consider agro processing factories not just canning of motor lubricants.(Which is still good)

Things like building fish farms especially if there are nearby water sources or just drill a bore hole for water.

Then procure industrial scale wood-fired smoking ovens to make the smoked fish eaten as a delicacy in southern Nigeria.

The ipob joker is not disputing the fact that Ogun state is more industrialized than his SE village, he's just saying they own more village cottage and backyard 4x4 industries.

His puerile mentality is ok with the fact that Ogun has more industries than his village as long as they are not owned by Yoruba people. It's all about tribalism and not the obvious realities that it makes zero difference per owners, it's all about development, job creation and IGR and this is why Ogun state's IGR is more than all their SE villages combined.

These are lowly and backward thinking people.

Anambra State is the second smallest state in the country by land mass after Lagos, with less than 300,000 hectares of land available for cultivation. However, the state’s success is hinged on its strategic approach to agriculture which involves soil testing to determine the best locations to grow rice, maize and cassava. Anambra’s economy is 4th among the states – after Lagos, Abuja, and Rivers Anambra State remains a key hub with the largest commercial market in West Africa showing a significant export investment opportunity Currently the majority of the population are engaged in distributive trade, agriculture, transport and services, real estate and construction, micro, small and medium industries, mining, financial services, and other services (health, education, law, etc.), entrepreneurial acumen of the Anambra people. Onitsha was and perhaps still is, the largest commercial market in West Africa. The natural resources include: natural gas, Crude oil, Bauxite, Kaolin, Salt, Gypsum, Lead, Lignite, Limestone, Iron ore, is arable for Oil palm, Corn, Rice, Yam, Cassava, Tomatoes, cocoyam, etc. Tourism potentials remain untapped. Adult literacy is over 80% and there are five universities (soon up to seven), a polytechnic and two colleges of education in the state. Its latest population estimate is over 5 million (10thmost populous state in Nigeria). It is estimated however that over 50% of Anambra indigenes (perhaps more than another 5 million people) live outside of the state— in other states in Nigeria as well as outside of Nigeria (all constitute the Greater Diaspora), whereas the state attracts a diversity of immigrants from all over Nigeria and the world. Anambra is indeed a home for all. In literally every village, ‘non-indigenes’ are becoming a significant share of population at home— especially those hired as security guards, and Okada drivers. Onitsha, Nnewi, Ekwulobia, Otuocha, Ihiala, Umunze, Awka, etc. have become rapidly urbanized. In 2006, I asked if there were white people living in Anambra as an index of a modernizing state.
A large proportion of its most talented/skilled indigenes live outside of the state, while a larger proportion of invertible capital is deployed outside of the state. Poverty incidence in Anambra used to be the lowest mainly because of remittances by its Diaspora. Access to bank credit is relatively low. Anambra has the 4th largest bank deposit after Lagos, Abuja, and Rivers, The state aims to become

You are right.Ibadan(Oyo state) is the 4th economy in Nigeria.Anambra could be the 10th or 11th.The thread'Yoruba are the most industrious....has put paid to some of the misconceptions in this thread.

I am still unable to understand why states like Anambra or Delta or Kogi should not be leading in fish production in Nigeria. Yet states as Bornu will produce more fish than these states living among the rivers.

All those riverine communities in Ayamelum LGA, Anambra North, Ogbaru etc can actually do large scale fish farms like these. Their closeness to the River Niger will help with water supply for the fish ponds. I just think there needs to be a serious investor to seriously invest in a fish farm and produce smoked fish at affordable prices.

It's either you people are so foolishly ignorant or you are just been a pathetic lair. Google is right there in your hand, and all you need to do is to type ''largest rice mill in Nigeria'' to see that this your cottage rice mill is not anywhere in the scale of large rice mills in Nigeria.
