Budget: N16bn Padded In Fashola’s Ministry – Senators by agwom(m): 4:46am On Dec 19, 2017
Senators yesterday said they discovered N16billion ‘frivolous’ items in the power wing of the ministry of Power, Works and Housing under the supervision of Babatunde Raji Fashola.

This was revealed when the Minister of State for Power, Mustapha Baba Shehuri appeared before the Senate Committee on Power.

Senator Adamu Aliero (APC, Kebbi) drew the attention of his colleagues to the items saying, two budget items amounting to N16bn appeared in both the power ministry and Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

An analysis of the main budget of the power ministry showed that N4bn was allocated for Kashimbilla transmission on page 47 and N12bn for counterpart funding for transmission lines and substation projects on page 48.

He said “The N4bn and 12bn appeared on TCN budget when they came to defend their budget. Why are you presenting the same now? The figure is misleading.”

Responding, the minister said it was the same budget but Abaribe interjected saying, “No minister, the figures are separate. We have the budget of TCN.”

Vice Chairman of the committee, Bukar Mustapha (APC, Katsina) said: “What Aliero mentioned is truly worrisome. Kashimbilla budget has nothing do to with the ministry. There are many, this has been the problem of the power sector...”

The Senators also raised issues on budgetary provisions for the purchase of vehicles that appeared in three places amounting to N768million.

Not satisfied by the minister’s response, Abaribe adjourned sitting and said a comprehensive list of the issues raised would be sent to the ministry ahead of a new date.

so the word 'pad' now has a place in Nigeria's budget?

@topic, could it be carelessness on the part of the minister of state or outright corruption?

somebody should wake me up.

Fashola bluntly resisted the FOI bill from taking effect during his tenure. Am bode took over and wanted to fry his arse a little but was definitely obviously advised against it by other cult members.

Sir,

I will not be a party to a system that is not working or fails to do the right thing....

No one has compelled Fashola to remain in a failed government.

He is still there on his own accord despite the abysmal performance of this govt.

Remember that, collectively, Fashola and others in APC has contributed to the overall poor performance....

This is rubbish!

Is TCN not under the Ministry of Power anymore? Won't the Ministry prepare budgets for department under them? Does TCN have their own Minister or what?

"Kashimbilla budget has nothing do to with the ministry."

Just imagine, so a transmission line project also has nothing to with the the Ministry of Power?

People will leave their legislative duties to be playing politics

Revealed: How Buhari Budgeted N39 billion for Propaganda

In a bid to launder his already battered image, President Muhammadu Buhari has allocated a whooping sum of N39 billion in the 2016 budget to the Ministry of Information and Culture, a sum higher than the paltry N29 billion allocated to the Ministry of Agriculture.

This is a direct inverse of the 2015 budget, where Former President Goodluck Jonathan allocated the sum of N23 billion to Ministry of Information and N39 billion to the Agricultural Ministry.

The meager allocation to the Agricultural ministry has left political stakeholders wondering if the present administration aims at diversifying the economy or thriving on propaganda.

Buhari had in August, 2015 stated that Nigerians must stop paying mere lip service to agriculture, as crude oil and gas exports will no longer be sufficient as the country’s major revenue earner.

“It’s time to go back to the land. We must face the reality that the petroleum we had depended on for so long will no longer suffice. We campaigned heavily on agriculture, and we are ready to assist as many want to go into agricultural ventures,’’ Buhari stated.

However investigations by Post Nigeria revealed that Buhari’s words did not match his action following the lean budgetary provision for Agriculture.
