Randy Waldrum rejects Super Falcons job

the recently appointed Super Falcons coach has rejected the Nigeria Football Federation offer for University of Pittsburgh coaching post

American coach Randy Waldrum has turned down to offer to coach the country's senior women's national team from the Nigeria Football Federation.

The NFF had named the former Trinidad and Tobago gaffer as the technical adviser for the Super Falcons in October after his application for the job, and subsequent recommendation by the NFF technical committee, though subject to further negotiations.

it is the second time in 18 months an expatriate will reject a coaching offer from the NFF after Frenchman Paul Le Guen declined to handle the Super Eagles in June 2016.

However, reports say Waldrum has been named the head coach of the University of Pittsburgh women's soccer team after the 61-year-old declined further negotiations.

"We are thrilled to announce Randy Waldrum as our head women's soccer coach at the University of Pittsburgh," said Pitt's director of Athletics, Heather Lyke on the team’s website.

While confirming his acceptance, Waldrum said: "I would like to thank Heather Lyke for giving me this wonderful opportunity to lead the women's soccer program at the University of Pittsburgh."

Goal gathered that the NFF were in communication with Waldrum and had expected the gaffer to land in Nigeria on Wednesday having sorted his flight and visa fees.

But on Tuesday, he suddenly wrote the NFF to communicate them on his new job with Pitt and no longer interest in the Nigerian offer.

Waldrum was former US U23 women coach and Trinidad and Tobago women's coach for two years before he was relieved of his post. He also coached US National Women's Soccer League side Houston Dash before he was sacked following a poor run of results.

Since Florence Omagbemi led the Super Falcons to African Women's Cup of Nations glory in December 2016, the team are yet to regroup and since been without a substantive coach.

Why won't he reject the offer to coach the Falcons?? When NFF always owe coaches salary but money keep missing from their office

The package ain't good enough?

Everything happen together for a reason. When Frenchman Paul Le Guen declined to handle the Super Eagles in June 2016 we thought there's no hope for Nigeria going to 2018 world cup... But as God use to do it, a certain man call Gernot Rohr (German former footballer) came and presented the world cup ticket to Nigeria with so much ease against all odds.

Sadly i must say he iz a smart man...even me dat iz a nigerian if beta job abroad come my way me sefgo ball out sharperly without looking back

Bottom line. Thank you for your honesty. A country where mediocre is king is not where sane people spend most of their time at.

he just saw he can't meet the demands of an African country so gat to find an excuse....

Rad1cal:
The Minister of Youths and Sports, Mr. Solomon Dalung, on Thursday said the Federal Government did not expect the Super Falcons to win the just-concluded CAF African Women Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

He said that was why the government was currently facing difficulties in paying the players’ entitlements.

Dalung spoke with State House correspondents at the Presidential Villa, Abuja amidst continued protests by members of the victorious Falcons over their unpaid allowances.

The players had seized the trophy they won at the competition and said they would hold on to the trophy until the authorities concerned offset the N238.05m accumulated bonuses which they are being owed.

They had threatened that if President Muhammadu Buhari refused to address their grievances at the Federal Executive Council’s meeting on Wednesday, they would embark on protest on the streets of Abuja.

But the minister said the situation could have been avoided if the Nigerian Football Federation had envisaged that the team would win and put in place the process of paying their entitlements.

He said, “Don’t forget that nobody even knew the team will emerge victorious.

“If we were confident they will emerge victorious, all the federation would have done is to plan for process of participation and entitlement.

“It is already established in sports tradition, when you win this is what you are entitled to.

“The situation is highly unfortunate and I don’t like it. These girls have given confidence to women who want to embrace sports, so this will go a long way in killing this laudable achievement. It is unfortunate but we will make sure the right thing is done.”

The minister said his position had always remained that the process of request for funds for sporting projects must come earlier to meet the objectives.

He said if the federation had requested for funds on time, the process of settling the players would have been easier.

The minister admitted that the matter was not handled properly, regretting that there are also issues of outstanding payment of coaches.

Players of Rivers United FC this morning stormed the Rivers State Government House to press home demands for the payment of sign on fees for the 2014/15 football season. It was gathered that these monies were owed by the previous administration, before the merger, and during the days of Sharks and Dolphins FC.

Governor Nyesom Wike addressed the players personally and promised to look into their demands.

The players thanked the Governor and apologized seriously for their actions of this morning..
