I doubt those properties can ever be recovered. A law should simply be passed to prevent such anomalies from re-occuring in future.
And they end up circumventing any such new laws as well, ad infinitum, because they would think there would be no repercussions to flouting laws and policies.

We should in fact realise that, the governments of OBJ and GEJ in selling those national assets actually circumvented their own existing rules and policies regarding those assets!

There has to be a repercussion and deterrence against such impunity, otherwise there can never be real progress in our/any society.

Yeah but the way things are going, with David Mark already in court, do you really thinks there's any chance of recovering those properties?.. I doubt.

Yes, there is a big chance given the fact that both legislature & executive are at loggerheads, even a greater chance in as much as contravening due process is a criminal offense. Enough of cash & carry judgements.

Check 2018 budget you will see rent for Aso Villa.
Question is who is the landlord of Aso rock Villa?

So when a guest of the Nation comes to see the presidency with his entourage where do you think they'll stay and under what heading would you budget their stay?

why sell an official residence in the first instance.
those properties are national symbols with its own security details and should never have been converted to a private residence.
revoking the sales is a good step in the right direction.
Ok let's chk BAT and the houses he bought

What is this man saying ?

People put in the position of trust used their position s to convert public property to private holding and all you have to say is the above .
In other climes , it will be regarded as theft.
Let's us just assume for one minute that the government really wanted to dispose excess holdings, was the property sold for a fair price at a fair auction.

if you even read the text like a learned man that you are you would have seen that it didn’t say Gej didn’t follow due process only that it’s improper for him to meddle in the affairs of legislature or judiciary simple and the bone of contention remained the fact that it wasn’t publicized for bidding as should have been the case lets stop this biase please everything shouldn’t be about politics or blame opposition is good but be careful before you oppose your rights one day

I really do wish that Jonathan is behind bars right now. The man irks me.

I understand fully well that buhari is worth nothing and totally incompetent but Jonathan.... Jonathan disappointed me the most. He seemingly had it all, was educated, came from a humble background and a sister tribe, had practically most of our people around him and yet his government was the most corrupt. A man who could brazenly tell us all that stealing is not corruption deserves to be in jail with the key thrown away.

If voting in buhari for a second tenure can make this a sweet reality, I will go for it. That is how much I detest the man called Jonathan and his ilk. Of course, the next president after buhari can feel free to lock him up for his misdeeds and so on and so forth.

Guys read this article again and again? I saw along the line and i quote * these properties were sold without competitive market or buyer* meaning the panel agreed to the fact that the house could be sold but must be competitive* (Note pls)So like what price should theze proerties goes for? 1billion or 1trillionhuh

Pls are all these why people voted for apc, to kill opposition? Since pdp convention apc has started these madness. Nigeria is about to collapse and it will be so shameful if Buhari break the record again, so only the house of ekeremadu, bankole, David mark are now illegal right?

These vengeance Buhari and his party are sowing will tear this country to pieces and I pity Buhari if by chance power move out of apc hands Buhari might end his life in jail because they will angrily descend on him. Let's the revenge game go on we are enjoying it.

Really? Is it true that everyone has a price? I guess I just discovered that you have a price too. This is about fraudulently acquiring government properties, not about the previous administration's policy. David Mark has gone to court, I guess they too will do the same. So, no need to be sympathetic to fraudsters in the name of politics.
Channel your annoying hypocrisy towards APC chieftain Bola Tinubu. He also "fraudulently" acquired government properties in Lagos.

Why should houses for SP, Speakers, CJN be sold in the first place since there would be future occupants? According to their statements here, their only reason was because they didn't pass through the normal public procurement act in purchasing the said houses. Now ask yourself if buhari and his cronies passed through the normal process of public employment and federal character act when they fixed their children and cronies to central bank's job some few months ago. Anything to hoodwink the gullible masses and their eternal zombies and divert their attentions from the scorching fuel scarcity and their blatant failures.

Of course they were acquired illegally... the particular ones now being sought after for recovery, were in the policy expressly forbidden from ever being sold. But Jonathan in this particular case circumvented that aspect of the policy, and purported to single-handedly allow them to be sold to those government property grabbers.

That was a blatant act of impunity.

As nemesis would further have it against the impunity though, the official processes of the purported sales were not even complete (no government gazettes were ever issued.)

So, at the minimum, it is a two-edged sword in court against the buyers, at least to my own non-legal mind.

Let's see how it plays out.

But, to me, these vicious cycles of impunity just have to be broken, for our country to have a better/fighting chance at ensuring transparency, responsibility, and accountability by those in government. That way, our patrimony will be more judiciously spent on common good, which directly translates to societal progress.

I was amongst those that criticised the salebof govt properties to govt officials occupying it then but the FEC still sat and approved the policy, the best thing this govt can do now is stop the meaningless policy but trying to go backed to collect the properties already sold is very expensive process that will cost the govt more in the long term and moreso if it cant be done equitably then there is absolutely no need go about it and by that I mean the govt must make sure its not selective in its so called recovery by recovering every Property from 1999 till date given away by the policy and that should include all houses , vehicles and any other undeserved allotment of govt resources on the whim of an FEC executive order
Which includes all vehicles and undeserved remunerations paid to all past heads of state including Buhari since 1999.
Now, I like this. This is the path that Nigeria youths should follow, not siding with APC and PDP looters all the time. Thumbs up.
