We have been looking at getting one of the C's.
A mechanic said C 180 is the best because it doesn't use air flow meter.

Some insist a toyota 2.2 will better than all these.
What do you think please.

I think the difference is the engine capacity and the airflow meter.C 180 and 200 has no airflow meter while 220 has. Airflow meter is one of the parts that controls the intake of fuel.Ask Benz thread for further explanation.

C 180 and 200 MB is better than camry 2.2

Just like people said, engine is what actually differentiate this cars from each other. You didn't specify year but I guess it's the 1997 to 2001 MB you talking about since you added the exact camry year.

I won't say the camry is better though bigger than the MB the C class Toyota competitor is corolla. The MB of your choice isn't actually bad but if you are looking at fuel economy as a criteria in choosing your choice, the C180 Is good you can buy the kompressor variant for added power

I have been at the benz thread which confused me more.

It seems Benz isn't sth an average roadside mechanic can handle?

You don't ask for the benz you fancy just like that. you take note of the model code and year of manufacture.
Are you looking for a W202 or a W203? lets start from there first.

I think its w202 the older versions.

C180=1.8L engine, C200=2.0L engine and C220=2.2L engine(that's from 1993-1997) C220 was replace by C230=2.3L engine(1998-2000).
Remember that C220 and C230 was meant for American market.
