careytommy7:I do not understand what you mean by going in circles. Madam Iweala has no moral right to tell us the governors had no political will to save when she was dipping hands into the same source and also did not save the federal government's share which was larger. If all the money was for saving. Why not give the State government their share and save the rest? |

Mariangeles:I understand you. You will rather have Jonathan incompetence simply because he had a lot of access to cash due to high oil price while he was there, and which he and his cohorts threw around then. It's like living a lie because the economic boom you guys keep pointing to wasn't a boom but rather an oil revenue boom which created a false impression that everything was well because there was lot of illicit cash been thrown around. And now that the party is over Nigerians are shouting recession. Nigeria has been in recession for a long time, even post Yaradua-jonathan. It started with Austerity Measures (early 80s) and Structural Adjustment Programme (mid 80s to 90s). The higher oil price at different periods was the only thing providing a cushion. And how much of this funds end up in the pocket of the common man? Even Okonjo-Iweala was shouting to high heavens since late 2013 that Nigerians should brace themselves for the coming hard time. |

TheGoodJoe:In fact the fears of the governors then was the recklessness of the federal government knowing fully well that if they did not share the funds nothing will be left. The governors complained that after each FEC meeting that the amount in the account kept going down without credible explanation. So that was the reason they requested that it be shared. In fact it was Oshiomole and Amaechi who were crying loud the most then. |

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltrsjqTE_p8 ^^^^^^^^^^ This is the video, she did not mention governors or even infer anything about governors, she ranted about the FG not saving and other countries saving while other countries saved to prevent recessions. She even referred to OBJ saving $22 billion which prevented recession under OBJ, but the current admin/GEJ lacked the political will to do the same thing, nowhere in the video she hinted anything about governors. Last time I checked, Jona was the president and not the governors, and if OBJ saved $22 billion so what stopped GEJ from doing the same thing? Why is she even lying now? Some people lie just for the hell of it even when they are on tape saying the opposite. |

At least Gej built roads, developed the Almajiri schools and did so many other things we all witnessed in this country. There was basic healthcare for everybody in Nigeria, including those living in the rural areas. We saw what Jonathan did. So in my mind, he was not as corrupt as people are painting him to be, because there was development in all sectors, people were employed and they could eat. Under corruption, no will witness such type of development. But now, what is happening? Even with oil prices rebounding, Buhari' s govt is still giving excuses for it's incompetency. Using Gej as a reason and an excuse for people's suffering and hardship they're experiencing in their lives. Buhari has not done anything for Nigerians. The statistics are there, glaring for everybody to see. And some people are coming here to complain that Gej wasted our collective resources. As far as I am concerned, we were eating our money, all of us in general, because life was good for us all. We were not borrowing as we're borrowing now. Our standard of living was high compared to now. Look, any day any time, I will choose Gej's corruption to Buhari's anti-corruption and incompetence. Just imagine, giving 8 dead people national appointments, and on Christmas Eve, Nigerians cannot afford to buy fuel to enjoy the holidays and some people are here defending that type of leader's incompetency. Tufiakwa!! Over my dead my body will I support that type of person. |

GavelSlam:Well, the argument was that, after removing budgetary allocations, fg said let us save what accrues from excess derived from crude to which the gov. said No. Despite that a sovereign wealth fund was set aside and states went to court and got injunction that declared that illegal. It was subsequently agreed that the money be shared as according to them their states needed money for infrastructural development. This is a democracy and it will amount to illegality that fg continued to hold unto money court has ordered it to release. Our constitution makes no provision for how excess crude money should be used. The onus is on our legislature to come up with law that takes care of that. I hope you are aware that the issue of excess crude account should still be on even now. Crude is currently being sold above budgetary benchmark but no one seems to be asking questions. Rather apc government is dipping hand into what has been saved before. Yaradua/Jonathan government despite their ills should be commended for trying to uphold the rule of law. I remember it was Yaradua that release the withheld Lagos allocation when he came to power. Obasanjo despite court ruling refused to do so. We can't hang a government that tries to respect democratic norm of respecting rule of law even when that goes against popular opinion. One thing I dislike this government for is it's penchant for ignoring laid down procedures. Why keep magun despite house rejection? Is he the only good man in Nigeria? Why extend tenure of a retired permanent secretary? Why extend tenure of service chiefs beyond their statutory years in service? Are the same chiefs eligible to recommend others for retirement? So many flagrant abuse of power by Buhari. |

deomelo:Good video. But you need to understand the meaning of "Political Will". Political will could be as much as a single head of government as well as an entire population of a country. And more so she can't be delving into national political in-fighting about the fund while addressing from an international platform. But we Nigerians understand what she meant by lack of political will. In that case, it was the collective will of the political class. The result depends on which is stronger. The people's will or that of the ruling class and its governing units? The people will naturally is supposed to shape and direct national political will but in Nigeria it doesn't because of the reckless and deceitful political class. |

ajl:We had just 1 president/Commander in chief. GEJ was the man Nigeria voted for to manage the affairs of Nigeria and like they say, the buck stops at the President's desk, not governors desks. We had governors under OBJ so why didn't the same governors forced OBJ not to save the $22 billion he Saved? Did the governors also force Jona to steal our $2 billion he stole and gave to Dasuki to share with his cronies and PDP members? The governors also force him to borrow borrow trillions from his 1st day in office till his last day in office? I know you people must spew trash and defend Jona's absurdities, but why keep insulting our intelligence with your rubbish. And per the highlighted, you don't have to speak for her or twist what she said, she said she was talking about the governors, not political class and if she actually meant political class, then why is she now limiting her comments just to the governors? Stop speaking for her, no need to twist what she said out in the open to your own preferred narratives. |

deomelo:You are right. That is the difference between weak leader and a stronger one. The political will of a stronger leader will carry the day even if the general populace lack the will. Of course, that's why he was elected. To make tough political and at times non popular decisions. Jonathan failed in that respect. I can imagine how Mama Peace will be all over him. |

DLondonboiy:Mr, she's only just made a political attempt at damage control after the massive backlash she must have received from PDP over the comment; Even at that, the defense is still very weak and still holds no water if analysed. 1. Governors also pressured OBJ to release the portion of ECA belonging to states. They also took the FG under OBJ to court. But what happened?... OBJ had the will to save, so he ignored the rants of the governors, witheld and saved the portion of the ECA belonging to states, and he also saved the large portion (52%) of the ECA belonging to the FG. 2. Yaradua also followed OBJs footsteps, he had the political will to save so even though he was also taken to court by the governors, he ignored the rants of the governors, witheld and saved the portion of the ECA belonging to states, and he also saved the large portion (52%) of the ECA belonging to the FG. 3. Then comes GEJ, governors put pressure for him to release the state's share, he first refuses. A while later, he is caught dipping his hands into the funds, governors threaten action and he succumbs; he releases the portion belonging to states, and also descends on the bulk portion (52%) belonging to the FG until it was no more. And now the best excuse is that governors didnt want to save?... How exactly did governors prevent FG from saving its over 50% of the fund? |

TheGoodJoe:Nice try. The FG should save their share while the States spend theirs abi? Maybe you will tell me why federal prosecutors haven't not been able to argue even one conviction against those who dipped their hands in the till under GEJ. The past few weeks have exposed the fraudulent lies this government has been propagating against the previous government. As if sharing formula are not fixed and FG withdrawals would not be taken into consideration in subsequent FAAC meetings. How did the APC know withdrawals were being made if the was not from available records, so tell me how this amounted to stealing. |

deomelo:Gentleman. It seem it's not obvious to you that we are coming from same direction. No one is speaking for anybody. There is a video and statement from the video. You can interpret it in different directions based on the precedent and context. You often dont make judgement after a single event. You look at the precedents and the players. Who is defending Jonathan? Am not just pointing out the weakness of Jonathan but the recklessness of the entire political class including the governors. Politics is not a one man show. If it is, am sure Buhari would have thrown all those he perceived as corrupt into jail without going to court. Apparently an average Nigerian does not understand how a country is run or understand the complexity of their every day decisions. |

careytommy7:Note the FAAC members denied having knowledge of the earlier withdrawals by NOI and GEJ. Do not spin this into a partisan topic. I am just pointing out the actions of the FG caused the lack of savings. From your earlier statement, are you saying the FG had the right to keep spending from the account while the governors watched? |

VERDA:Ur post is neither here nor them. The Governors took the FG to court when Obj was President and Igbenedion Chairman of NGF. The case was later discontinued by Yaradua who sort for alternative dispute resolution which Saraki as Chairman of NGF accepted. Amaechi as NGF Chairman and all 36state Governors resumed their litigation when they observed that NOI and her ineffectual buffoon of a Boss was stealing from the ECA. My simple observation which u refer as street talk is why the friendly State Governors to GEJ also joined opposition Ameachi and Fashola to demand their monies from the thief GEJ. |
