I thought about this too.

The critical thing is that I want the eye to be drawn to the courtyard as you enter the building.

I’ll wait to visualize this when I get on the ground but I think if I erect a wall to the left to balance the view that it may be okay.

Taking a further look at the original architectural drawings, erecting a wall to the left to balance the view will add too much partitioning walls to the porch negating the almost uninterrupted view and flow to the courtyard as originally thought. I will suggest during finishing you should install the specialist type door in the attached photo. The left side of the door which is the glass pillar will bounce off light from the seemingly annoying wall behind thereby serving as an optical wall you want to introduce and the door width will now streamline the view to the courtyard. I still hold the view you shouldn't spend good money chasing bad. Plan and be on top of your finishing and the rest will pan out.

As the beacons are beyond your fence, I hope the neighbor will not intentionally remove it...

Hajji M.

Mind you, the beacon is cemented to the fence and the hole is normally blinded before planting the beacon. So it will take the breaking of the fence and heavy digging to uproot the beacon. If you've got neighbours who are ready to go this length to be mischievous or cause trouble, then you've had it. They will probably do more than uprooting a damn beacon pillar.

I surely agreed with you. Only neighbors from hell will try it.

Thank u sir
I actually asked because i experienced something similar two years back
We wanted to cover the beacons with d fence, so no one gets cheated, but my lawyer insisted covering d beacons will make it invincible, thereby making it difficult to resolve issues during dispute. Though we finally covered d beacons, but up till now i m still confuse as to which is better & appropriate covering it or building within it...

The standard is to take the center line of the beacons, the core of the fence should passed through the center line of the beacons which should be established by a surveyor before construction.

Dispute can easily be resolved by going through the information on the survey plan

That N150k is on the high side, scout around your locale you may be lucky to get some one to do it for less than 80k, if not try and speak with the man that resides in Abeokuta and see if you could agree a good price then add something extra for the trip to an aAbeokuta to execute. The job depending on th number of days he will take to accomplish the task.

Also ensure verification and standards of previous jobs by the man.wish you good luck the expected cash savings from the N150k you make can pay school fees for "Jeki lie sinmi"babies-kindergarten grin angry grin

PHOTO CRITIQUE: LANDSCAPING

Take a look at photo 1 and 2, three things come to mind:

1) The fence buttress (column) is not safe. Who position a column on top a fence and call it design? The buttress should start from the footing.
2) The roofing is a sorry state tarty to say the least. Designing your roof with different types of sheets is never a good idea.
3) And then the compound space. To be honest, I love the space, I really do. It reminds me so much of my childhood in Warri running around naked in the rain in my grandpa's compound and playing monkey post football. So much play ground but those days are gone. These days space is premium and you will be hard pressed to find a compound you can reverse a car within unless you back up.

So I like the space the compound offers but the question is would I concrete over ALL the yard if fortunate to have such space? Would I interlock the whole yard? I'm not sure.

Take a look at photo 3 and 4. Do you notice the space the compound offers? Do you also notice the industrial scale of the interlocking going on? Would I concrete over such a huge beautiful space? What do we have against landscaping save the fear of snakes which I think is unfounded. If I acquire a land I call my retirement home, it will not be less that 4 plots and I will not wholescale interlock. I will design and execute a simple but spectacular landscaping theme. It is amazing what greenery can do to a building; it can turn a simple bungalow into a stately home.

Oga diordaves,
The last two photos are very beautiful. They look so much like Florida. I could be wrong though.

They are indeed beautiful. These are simple bungalow which are replicable in Nigeria but factor in the gardening architecture and it's a whole new and different ball game. We are addicted to cement and concrete. Less interlocking, more green.

These are beautiful ideas. Im trying to do me now. The issues you run into are many:
1. Everybody dey fear snake, tenant view must be taken into consideration
2. The expense of a detailed plan as such is very exorbitant
3. The skill set requirements are lacking for now
4. The main wahala, the maintenance if you are now home fully to monitor it yourself.
