Lol.

From the statement, it is impossible to say which of the two females is drunk.

To make it explicit, you write it this way,

A mother beats up her daughter because she (mother) was drunk.

Or

A mother beats up her daughter because she (daughter) was drunk.

It depends on the context of usage...the event from the beginning of the article.

But regardless of the preceeding event, I'll say its d daughter. If it was d mother it would be:

A drunken mother beats up her daughter.

It's the daughter

If it was the mother, the write sentence would be

A mother beats up her daughter, because she was drunk.

Kinda making sense, bro.

But am I to believe that it'll be impossible for someone to figure out the answer at an immediate glance?

This is an ambiguous statement. Both are females, and the 'she' could be any of the two. Only the writer can tell us who was drunk.

But my common sense is telling me that the drunk fellow is the daughter.

The mother, I would say undecided.

A mother beat her daughter because she was drunk.

"A mother" is the subject of the sentence. She's the one doing, and whose action is qualified. Without the conjunction: A mother beat her daughter. She was drunk.
"A mother" is the subject in the first sentence, while "daughter" is the object. In the second sentence, if the daughter is to become the subject, it would be stated. But the pronoun "She" is used because it's taken for granted that "A mother" remains the subject.

Because bad habits and vices are mostly associated with the young, and the young are mostly punished for recklessness such as getting drunk; bearing in mind that the matter here is between a mother and her daughter, it is obvious the drunk is the daughter.

Cool, Kinda psychological.

But, what if the mum slapped her daughter with the influence of being drunk without her daughter offending.

Re: A Mother Beats Up Her Daughter Because She Was Drunk: Who Was Drunk? by Adukey(f): 7:42pm On Jan 12, 2018
It's a complex sentence - conglomeration of a main clause and a subordinate clause. In order to analyse, you must recognize this subordination.
Thus, The main clause is *'The mother beats up her daughter'* while the subordinate clause is *'because she was drunk'*
The subordination is triggered by *'because'*. While examining the sentence, the 'because' may appear to be the one with the problem but *'she'* is the one creating the confusion. In TGG, there's what is known as the deep structure pronoun and the surface structure pronoun. Obviously, the 'she' is a surface structure pronoun because it's making reference to a noun behind it which is of course in the main clause. 'she' is an anaphoric pronoun which refers back to one of the two nouns earlier mentioned. This could either be 'the mother' or 'daughter'.
To determine the person drunk is based on our tree or sentence analysis. You can either consider the pronoun to make reference to the mother or the daughter. Any which way, your analysis will be correct as long as you don't misplace the position of the pronoun. To make it easier to detect, you may just change the gender case of any of the nouns.
E.g. The Father beats up his daughter because she was drunk.
OR
The mother beats up her son because she was drunk.

From the two modified sentences, you know who the pronoun should refer to.
