AreaFada2:

What you seem to forget is that the elite, aristocratic elite and royalty are often related such as through marriage. For example Agho Obaseki married a daughter of Oba Ovonramwen and another daughter of Oba Eweka II.

Along the line reconciliation and appeasement will have been done.

Obaseki was actually an opportunist. Like we have in every sphere of life everywhere.

We should remember that Agho Obaseki's grandfather Osifo Oyoo was from Nsukwa in Anioma. Osifo sent his son Ogbeide Oyoo to accompany Prince Erediauwa (Later became Oba Oswemwende, reigned 1816 to 1848) to Benin. To re-claim the throne from his brother. Ogbeide later became a sceptre bearer (a low palace staff) when Osemwende became King. Through Oba Osemwnde to Oba Adolo (reigned 1848 to 1888) and Oba Ovonramwen's reign, the Ogbeide/Osifo family rose in palace to become chief Ineh (head chief of the royal bronze guid And also member of palace society that looks after royal princes & princesses).

Oba Ovonramwen purposely created the chieftaincy title "Obaseki" for his childhood friend in the palace. Agho's dad being in charge of royal children, he was able to mingle with Oba's children growing up together and garnered influence through friendship with The Crown Prince who later became Oba Ovonramwen. But Obaseki later betrayed Ovonramwen & Benin's interest. If you give an inch to upstarts, they will take a yard.

Even though Agho Obaseki had become an Edo person through birth in Benin, I guess he had no true loyalty to Benin.

At least the version above is the official Obaseki family version. Their claim to entitlement in Benin was that their ancestor, the Obi of Nsukwa
was a son of Oba Akengbuda (ruled from 1750 to 1804) of Benin.

The version has not been corroborated by any official history or historians. Their supposed historical royal ties to Oba Akengbuda certainly not.
Thanks for this info. I will do more research on that.

When Oba Ovoramen was betrayed which led to his deportations to calabar by chief obaseki why did the gods not destroy chief obaseki rather his grandson grew to become the Governor of Edo State.

Dont be dogmatic in thinking...

Obaseki suffered it...
Later was forgiving but still died with humiliation his families was spared dont know why ...i guess when a child burns a house even the parents will be so weak to beat the child for what he did but rather advice the child .that is exactly what happened...

Not because they couldn't eliminate the family or even banish them but rather they all felt no need for it .but it was never so for the man who banished oba to benin he died of madness or the military governor who is family was eliminated d entire family

If you dont believe go try ur own

Mtcheeeeeeew dis guy is not trying at all, celebrated his birthday on a low key, who would have gone for the birthday b4,

i am from ubiaja, that guy has turned our palace to something else, no more customs and traditions, cultists are now our palace guards, you will see them holding meetings in the old palace where his father and grandfather lived and ruled, no more respects for traditions, he don't even know his uncles and aunties, the ones who were supposed to put him through, our customs says that the mother of a king must not stay in the palace, sadly his mother and her man friend and her brother are the ones ruling and passing judgements in the palace, and the king is hardly seen in the palace, for those say he has been since 4, is a lie though he inherited the throne at four, but he gave his uncle the crown to serve as a ragent, because he was too young then, he assumed the throne 3 or 4 years ago.
Sadly the elders are watching him, after giving him words of wisdom, and he refused to accept it, and the politicians are using him, giving chieftancy titles to those who can afford it, even when they don't worth, the youths are angry, but there is not they can do, they are watching,

i hope this gets to him, one man can't make a country, please handle your community well, you are young and vibrant, happy birthday, that pinging picture though.

[quote author=ChangeIsCostant post=64143296]Meet His Royal Majesty, Curtis Iredia Eidenogie (1), the Onogie of Ubiaja Esanland in Edo state who is argued to be the youngest king in the state. According to reports, the young king inherited the throne of his fathers at the age of 4.

The young monarch turned a year older on Thursday, January 11 (yesterday) as he reportedly celebrated it in a low-key manner.

Point of correction please. He is not addressed as his royal majesty but his royal highness. We only have one Royal majesty in Edo state who is the person of the Oba of Benin.Again there is one Kingdom in Edo which is Benin kingdom. This guy you see here is an Enogie who oversees a dukedom,he can never beer addressed and a king or monarch.

Do you have mental problems ?
I am only stating a fact.
All Edo know this fact. You should have watched the video on which you were commenting rather than just spew rubbish.

This is unfortunate, if true. But Ubiaja has been very unlucky with this king matter since the death of Elabor I in 1921. You could even say their wahala started before then with the conflict between Prince Ugbesea and Chief Obinyan. The only time of relative stability was the time of Abumere (Eghoje II), but even he was seen as weak and ineffectual. I heard Prince Iredia was summoned by the kingmakers (elders of egbele nenen) to assume the throne because they thought the regent was misruling. But I guess this is the disadvantage of primogeniture.

He did not betray the Oba of Benin as popularly opined, infact the Oba of Benin was still in talking terms with Obaseki up till his death in 1914. Because of his faithfulness to the Benin nation and his refusal to ascend the Benin throne citing direct primogeniture, ovonranwmen betrothed his last daughter to him in 1908 called princess Orimwinamen. When Oba Eweka ascended the throne in 1914 against the wish of the British and the refusal of Obaseki to continue ruling as administrator or assume the position of the Oba of Benin, he also was betrothed the king daughter in 1918 princess Ebose as a reward for his loyaltyget your facts right
