Re: "Nigeria Practicing Military Democracy" - Bisi Akande Says by awakeupcall4all(m):
Why not just tell Tinubu to come out straight and face the monster he created and foisted on the country in Buhari?..He really need to stop playing the hide and seek while using you as a mask...It is about time Nigerians wake up and break away from the satanic bondage of Military ruler ruling and lording over them by proxy and that is one of the most cogent reason why Buhari just have to give way for Nigerians to finally have a new lease of life.....Save for GEJ who obviously has his glaring shortcomings in falling to act decisively and assertively when he needed to and was made to pay dearly for it by this same military gang and Shagari who was overthrown by the unrepentant and ungodly coupist Buhari; Nigerians have virtually remained in the bondage of the satanic military stranglehold and been ruled by proxy from satanic mansions of IBB&Abdulsalam in Minna and that of devious OBJ in Abeokuta.
Something just have to give way and Buhari has got to go for Nigeria to be finally free from the stranglehold and chessboard of this satanic military gang just because they have so much heinous economic, financial and human crime to hide and finally Nigeria will be on his way to greatness by God's grace.

In as much as the same set of people that are running the current presidential system of government will be the same people to run the parliamentary system, nothing is going to change. The system may not be perfect but there is no perfect system out there. We have fundamental problems such as tribalism, religious fundamentalism, an inherently corrupt people, a society that doesn't value merit, countrymen that hate each other so much and an elite class that are absolutely unpatriotic. If you like, bring the system of governance in heaven to Nigeria, things won't change if we don't change our corrupt value system.
It is much easier to allow independent candidates in a parliamentary system. If several small parties come together, they can trouble the ruling party and make it sit up.

They can hold the prime minister to account on daily or weekly basis.

Imagine all the saga in Aso Rock over SGF and others. And Buhari never appeared before NASS to explain himself.

The average 9ja politician right now is too self-centred to be allowed to sit in the presidency like a king, and NASS too weak to hold the "royal-like executive" to account. The Judicial pronouncements are flatly ignored by the presidency.
Let me give you an example in the ancient Benin Empire. It wasn't a parliamentary democracy but the realised the need of separation of powers as far back as the 11th century.

The King decided to be appointing a prime minister called Iyase. A non-hereditary chief that is independent of the local powerful aristocracy.

Several prime ministers were chosen from Ado-Akure people in what is now Ondo State. One prominent one was OKoro-Otun. Another one was a prince of Brass (now in Bayelsa). Even the current one is of Urhobo heritage. The Prime minister represented the people of Benin before the King. The local aristocracy were not believed to be neutral enough to avoid conflict of interest.

Just to illustrate that we Africans have be aware of need for transparency and neutrality coupled with accountability very long ago.

Why can we not develop a modern form of parliamentary system that ensure a proper balance of power?

Parliamentary democracy is cheaper to run, but can be unstabe when you have too many parties. We should understand that it is the civil service that matters a lot no matter the government in power they are the tires that move government.
No it is not unstable. That's why we have multiparty Governments. It's cheap, and very clean. Won't always have to wait four years for each elections. It's the best for Nigeria

When justice and fairness rules, you need not fear instability

This talk of restructuring is stale, the North dont want it and they have the voting power to render any talk of restructuring at the national assembly useless

Case closed with restructuring.

What I would rather is see is asituation where Igbos are given a referendum to decide their continued participation of the failed country called Nigeria.

If Igbos the vote to go, Yorubas can go back to doing what they know best, talking about restructuring with no plan on how to get it.

Igbo independence is all that matters

Can these illustrations eradiate corruption in executive, judiciary, legislature and civil services. Yes your opinions are workable in transparent honest society with common agenda - patriotism. How do we erase religious sentiments , tribalism and favouritism displayed in pointedly Aso rock and other lucrative offices such as NNPC and Central Banks?.. I suggest abandonment of 1914 jamborees.

The biggest mistake we made to our selves was choosing English language as our official language thereby making us strangers to our selves. indigenous language would have been better because it will be had to treat your language person as a total stranger no matter how bad it is.That spirit of brotherly love and unity must speak when ever you see a person share same language with you.English Language as official language over our indigenous language was the origin of our problem until this is corrected we will remain enemy to our selves for ever. There is a very strong force and power in a shared language e.g you find your self in the mist of igbo guys and you are not igbo then it happen that one of them knows how to speak a little of your language but not fluently he will be your closest person among others who cannot even say come in your own language, your closeness with the one that speaks little of your language will be stronger than the rest this has happen to me on several occasions. All these hatred and killings of a fellow Nigerians is as a result of the fact that there is no common thing that bind us together and language would have been that common thing.A division in language is a total disconnection of reasoning and understanding, you can never reason and understand any thing from some one who does not speak in a language that will make you to understand. Before you reason with any body you must first understand the person that is why in Nigeria an hausa man does not reason with an igbo man because there is no understanding of common language,a yuroba man does not reason with an igbo man due to lack of common language. Ghanaians are more united than Nigerians why because there is a common binding spirit that exist among them that makes them not seeing their selves as a total stranger to each other.Remember the story in the bible when God chooses to punish and stop the construction of tower to heaven he causes division to their common language and they could not reason and understand each other any more the next thing they began to fight and kill each and that was the end of that construction thus the killing of each other and the hatred that is going on in Nigeria today is due to lack of common language.Lets have a rethink and start correcting our mistakes from our root else we will never have our DREAMED NIGERIA.

Well nobody really knows. After all we had parliamentary system when Balewa was there and things did not exactly work out. But failure to reform and excessive executive power have been a problem.

Corruption can be fought. We just need a new breed of leaders and national focus. We can appoint Canadians/Australians/New Zealanders (Commonwealth people without history of colonial control over others) to run sensitive posts like EFCC, as Supreme Court Chief Justice, etc. No shame in admitting that we have failed and need help to ensure neutrality in a very divided nation. Since things are worse now than before January 1966 coup.

We just hope that the younger generations will be less tribalistic. Annd be ashamed of our failure and strive to succeed as a nation. Though judging from Nairanders' (supposedly young people) tribalism one cannot be that hopeful.

I still believe that a wholesale reform will be more achievable and less cataclysmic than breaking apart right now.

No difference between parliamentary and presidential.
In fact presidential has additional check of presidential veto. Just a bit costlier and I suspect if we have parliamentary then there will be more interest in parliamentary seats with commensurate increased Camping spending

There is corruption and mismanagement in every government in the world, many still manage to progress
and our first republic leaders were seasoned administrators with visions.

Nigerians did not rejoice, some section of Nigerians did because they wanted power by all means.
And the stupid coup planner are responsible for some of the current problems we are facing.

The introduction of a presidential system achieved the opposite of its aims, it led to civil war, institutionalisation of corruption
and massive degrading of our collective morals.

Akande is spot on, no system can beat the parliamentary system for a large ethnically diverse and largely illiterate population
such as ours.
Presidential system did not lead to civil war (that is if you are referring to the Nigerian Civil War).

The civil war started in 1967 and ended in 1970.

The presidential system of government started in 1979.

Always seek to understand the subject before making embarrassing comments next time.

The "institutionalisation of corruption and massive degrading of our collective morals" were also some of the reasons given by the military coupist for taking over from the "parliamentarians" in 1966 which culminated in civil war.

Baba Akande is one of the people who cannot internalize their losses.

When such people fail they start looking for excuses for their failures instead of doing a thorough introspection.

Any intelligent human being won't read up to two lines of Buhari's life history before coming to a sane conclusion that Buhari has always been a monumental failure.

In any case, does Baba Akande appreciate the intellectual and physical rigours of debating in a parliament daily?

Can he honestly tell us where Buhari would have found such intellectual acumen?
