Ijeoma660:Are you sure that CC is an MPPT type ? By my calculations, it is stepping down the voltage to battery level ( and multiplying by charging amperes) to give Power.. Without upping the charging current using the extra voltage . . . Maybe I didn't check it well, will do again . . . Not bad at all, but in the end, how did you string the panels? By 7 A.M, I am already seeing circa 150 Watts, though on a larger array !! |
| Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Ijeoma660(f): 2:05pm On Jan 21, 2018 |
makavele:I parallel-ed all four panels. |

makavele:@makavele Please what is the size of your array? |
| Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by makavele: 2:11pm On Jan 21, 2018 |
Ijeoma660:Presently sitting @ 1.8 kWp and counting . . . *small though* |
| Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by makavele: 2:13pm On Jan 21, 2018 |
Ijeoma660:I thought you had an MPPT CC; why did you have to parallel all four panels ![]() My guess was good then! |

| Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by chris81964(m): 5:19pm On Jan 21, 2018 |
Ijeoma660:You have more 400 watts in PV if you are in Lagos. It looks good. Is that the 60 amp controller made by Voltronic? works fin on AGM batteries |
| Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by chris81964(m): 5:23pm On Jan 21, 2018 |
Ijeoma660:If you did that and are getting more than 30 V from your PV. They are bigger than 100 Watts. Your voltage will be in the high teens after the controller kicks in on 100 watt panels. Do you have the manual? You might want to connect them in series, thinner cables, longer distances and better efficiency. Good luck welcome to our world. The most I saw out of 2600 watts today was a little under 1500 watts. So if you are seeing over 300, you might really have 150 to 200 watt panels. |

@chris81964 @NiyiOmoIyunade and @makavele Is it strange to get 20A max from a 2x2 arrangement of 300W panels? That's the highest current i've seen today @ around 12:30pm and my batteries were about 57%, even after washing the dust off the panels daily. The panels are ground mounted (i didn't have any other option, landlord issues) and the Charge controller is a Fangpusun MPPT 100|50. |
| Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Ijeoma660(f): 7:46pm On Jan 21, 2018 |
makavele:I will try to vary the string to a 2S2P and see what difference it might make. Since I used simple cable connectors to achieve the configuration. The effective distance of my panels are about 10m ground mounted.! |
| Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Ijeoma660(f): 7:49pm On Jan 21, 2018 |
chris81964:Sure those are some advantages of the MPPT CC On the charging power, I believe it is a function of the load [batteries state of charge] The CC is intelligent to sense the batteries state and adjust the amount of charging power (or current) correspondingly. I stand to be corrected. |
| Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Ijeoma660(f): 7:52pm On Jan 21, 2018 |
chris81964:Sure. The panels were acquired from a colleague who was not ready for green energy. I was forced to pick them up to assist him. In any case that was what kick started my foray into RE. I am planning to pick up the 325Wp panels as I have space constraint. |
| Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by makavele: 8:07pm On Jan 21, 2018 |
sinistrian:Strange !!! You should be between 25-30 A during this hazy period |
| Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by sinistrian(m): 9:34pm On Jan 21, 2018 |
makavele:Ehen. Because with a max possible input of 17.66A from my array (each panel has 8.83A Imp) I am sure the MPPT controller is already doing 'something' to get me to 20A output, just not enough. What could be the limiting factor(s)? |
| Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by makavele: 11:56pm On Jan 21, 2018 |
sinistrian:Your panels Vmp shuld be at 33. something. So in an ideal condition, with your 2 x 2 config your input to the controller would be about: 67V18A (rough calculation) Limiting factor 1: Battery bank . . . If your battery bank is a 48V one, there is little or no voltage headroom to convert excess voltage to ampere. If it is a 24V bank, should be sufficient enough to convert excess voltage to amperes; if a 12V bank, very cool. Limiting factor 2: Faulty charge controller . . . that is limiting your output for whatever reason (incorrect battery profile selected, etc) or losses due to bad wiring system. |
| Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by sinistrian(m): 12:11am On Jan 22, 2018 |
makavele:Thanks for the response! The battery bank is 24V 400AH, so I think there's enough voltage headroom. The charge controller, though ... I just plugged and prayed. Apparently it's supposed to autodiscover the voltage and also comes with a preset battery profile. I'm waiting for the data cable i ordered so i can see what's going on inside it. |

makavele:Here it is (pics attached). The MCB group has four breakers: PV to CC (25A DC), Grid to Inverter (32A AC), Inverter to Battery (63A DC) and CC to battery (63A DC). The inverter is another Mustpower clone from Cloud Energy (https://cloudenergy.com.ng/products/3kw-home-inverter), rated at 3kw. Batteries are 4x 200AH arranged 2x2. Inverter to battery cable is 16mm2, CC to battery cable is 10mm2, PV cable is 6mm2, battery interconnect cables are 16mm2.

The mounting rails are the core of the system. For each row of panels, a pair of rails is mounted horizontally on the roof and supported by roof hooks at no more than 1.2m intervals. The panels are then laid on the rails and clamped in place with the end and mid clamps. These rails measure 4200mm or customized For longer rows, simply join lengths of rail using the Splice Kit. Rails can be cut to your demanding length with a hacksaw or grinder. Good day everyone. Please I need your intervention concerning a purchase from JUO. I have transacted with him few times successfully until recently that he stopped picking my calls while we still have a transaction not concluded yet to my detriment. I bought 2 units (12v 190ah) of used batteries from him barely 4 months @ 80k each for a client on 1 Sept, 2017, I planned buying new but he was able to convince me that these batteries are better than the new ones I wanted to buy, so I opt in for his option and he promise me a guarantee of 6 months if client discharge 50% only. I paid him and he supplied the batteries to me, few days after installation we were chatting and he asked if he has a solar system installed and I said NO... he said that's bad o, he barely gives people warranty with no solar and I told him this client lives in an estate with about 20-24hours power supply daily, he's only trying to make sure he covers up his 24hours power supply always, that's why he's getting it and there won't be a problem concerning charging of the battery but I will persuade him to do solar, that's all. I can't force money out of the client's pocket likewise you didn't base your warranty on a condition before you sold it to me, it was after you sold it you were talking that condition... and that's not a goal to me, even batteries perform well without a solar system, so not a solid criteria. About 2 weeks ago, the client called me that some liquid came out of the battery terminals the previous night and he's been observing for about 4 days that battery barely last 30minutes from the previous 9 hours it's used to. I went there 2 Sundays ago to inspect the batteries and the terminals are dried, i didn't see any vivid traces of water and I met battery fully charged, so i disconnected the grid supply to see how long the battery will last and behold, less than 20 minutes it started alarming and 3 minutes after, inverter went off. I informed JUO and he said he can't be responsible for total refund (even tho that's not conditionally stated in his warranty, what he told me then was he will replace if battery is default) and now he said he can only give a discount on another purchase. Client said he's never going to buy used again... Poor experience for me as well. His discount was client is to pay #130,000 for 2 brand new Mercury 12v batteries. Client insisted on #100k because he can't lose such money within that short period. And I had to come in just to protect my integrity, I agreed to pay #30k from my wallet. Client called me yesterday that he's ready for the purchase. And I informed JUO and since then he has refused to answer my calls, nor reply my text and whatsapp. So I am begging everyone to implore him to fix this transaction even though I will never have to deal with him ever again. And I am not "mr. dangote" to bear a burden of #100k. We transact with each other on here most times based on trust, we never meet each other and I do believe everyone has a name to protect, so kindly implore him to do the right thing as agreed... This JUO is a man I have input my words for on this forum for a good services & delivery rendered, so I never expect him to show this ugly side of his to me. Kindly help everyone pls! Teraman |

viperVIP:wow surprised to hear this as JUO has good customer feedback. Hope to hear his own side and how he intends to resolve this. For me any other solar system components can be bought used but for batteries that is a big no no as you can never tell how the batteries were abused. Always save up and try and buy new batteries rather than 2nd hand that will most likely have been over abused. Most warranties are useless from sellers as the Nigerian factor is always at play anyway l trust Juo will do the right thing and this will be resolved amicably. |

viperVIP:Good morning, am just viewing this message . Mr Niyi aka Teraman my man ... Take it easy, although I see few sellers reluctantly giving "6 months warranty" on a used battery they do not even know the history of usage etc .. Its unrealistic to me as it's a game of luck. As one of my good client"Dunka" said above , "I believe Juo is already working on the stated issue above" ! Cheer's |
