I guess naptu2 should be in his 50s based on his narration of events because his posts shows someone on ground when the events were happening. Also he should either be in the media industry or has an organisation that covers events and happenings around Lagos/Nigeria.

I maybe wrong though. tongue

I rarely resort to blatant insults unless pushed, I've been pushed by you,now listen.
You are a B@stard son of a worthless mother.. From your moniker Phemmyfour I can deduce that you may be a yoruba person so you should know the meaning of Omo ale Jatijati.
Nigeria and Africa as a whole is developing and upcoming, it's our land, home and no where else yet you point your fingers towards your father's house and called it a shi.thole.
You live in the greatest shi.thole in the world, Philadelphia where you worthless thugs shoot each other daily for nothing, most of the houses in downtown Newark new Jersey are derelict and abandoned. Prostitutes everywhere around time square all the way to the bronx and other Fvcked up boroughs of new York.
Your adopted country is a Shi.thole, and when you are done, you can Come back home omo ale Jatijati.

I thought that I first heard this song at the Mandela concert at Wembley in 1988, but he didn't actually perform the song there. He actually performed the song a year earlier at Paul Simon's Graceland concert and this is the video.

"Bring back, Nelson Mandela.
Bring him back home to Soweto.
I want to see him walking down the streets of South Africa (tomorrow)."

His rendition on the trumpet is classic.
He was instrumental in Mandela's release from prison with countless music concerts across the globe.

Few years ago he was a guest here in Laos for a Jazz Night. He had flight issues and many thought he wouldn't make but he came in around 2am. His trumpet electrified the event as he was on the podium till morning.
That same morning he was a guest at AM EXPRESS.

Rest In Piece

TheSuperNerd:
Although I am no oldie from the 70s and 80s... I am a 90s kid, but I know and have heard of Hugh Masekela's musical legend all the way from the land of the rainbow nation, South Africa.

He is popularly known as the king or father of South African Jazz music.

I loved and got to listen to some of his many songs and tracks.... Not much but just a couple of them and "Bring Him back Home" stands out for me among very few others. Bring Him back Home was a song of hope and freedom.
Africa have lost yet another musical legend... Well... So long Hugh. It is well. Meanwhile, Oga Naptu2, thanks for sharing some of his songs... But see as you wan take all the space sef.... Mehn na wa ooo... sad
Can't help but acknowledge we share the same thoughts. Great legends those guys were. And Naptu2 is just bringing back some good ol memories lol.
Re: Hugh Masekela Is Dead by naptu2: 4:54pm On Jan 23, 2018
There's only one left.

Once upon a time I thought that there was a trinity of African music legends. Later I realised that it was a quartet.

They were Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, Miriam Makeba, Hugh Masekela and Manu Dibango.

Dibango is the only one that's still alive.
