To me, the government we have is the type that feels it's not necessary if the developed countries do not innovate such and also feel it's a waste of time trying to do something similar on our own since there's a country with such capability already.

In my opinion, politics and development do not go well together.

Between u and me , have u wondered that millions who have died for their country /kings etc across the world till date maybe for the right reasons or the wrong reasons , if after their deaths were given a chance to see 400-500 years into the future , would they be disappointed and consider themselves stupid for having sacrificed their lives for nothing ?

( Considering 95+ % of the various countries/civilizations they died defending etc got destroy or broken up inevitably later on. )

What's Ur opinion on it. ?

Reminds me of the other day I strolled outside the sanity of the technical/African militaries threads; ended up in the Politics section. Saw a politics/development discussion, was beginning to offer my opinion then boom!
All hell was unleashed on me by ignorant, jumpy and misjudging posters who only see the world through the lenses of religion, ethnicity and political affiliation. I quickly ran back to this oasis of logic and reason. After that I become cautious about making political comments on this forum

(You can see the frustration tdayof, brunclezuma, slimthugchime and others go through when trying to explain relevant geopolitical and military concepts/events to the average nairalander.)

Had network. Issues while trying to respond. Politicians use military personnel to settle war.


Now to my answer, even the biggest patriot will prefer being patriotic just by holding showing off their flags. However, some might still go for it . Imagine a son of a man who died trying to protect a broken country also trying to join the military because he feels his commitment can fix the country.

Those guys will come really hard on you. I keep saying it that the stat which says Nigeria adult literacy rate is 51% is wrong except if 95% of guys on Nairaland are still in primary school.

During the second world war, in Eastern Asia, Burma to be precise, The American theatre commanders who took over after the British gave citations that went " The negro soldiers from the African colonies were "Slow on the Uptake"...these soldiers were unique in so many ways and one of which was the ability to carry all their stores with them while moving...bravery and the ability to adapt to harsh conditions.

Fast forward 5-20 years later, the Chinese uitilised the same African techniques to sneak into Korea during the Korean War, the Vietcong/Viet Mihn adopted the same porter-soldier techniques to pound the French at Dien Bien Phu and subsequently the Americans wherever they encountered themselves.

In discussing war and politics I have come to know and learn that using broad strokes to paint ideologies can be dangerous and detrimental to proper discuss and knowledge sharing.

Once race, overbloated nationalistic egos mix with military ingenuity you'd always have the Russian misadventures in Afghanistan, The French and German fiascos at Moscow/Stalingrad, Vietnam?, South East Asia(WW2), Dunkirk, Galipoli too many to mention...hopefully we will keep pushing until there are more logical thinking people at the right positions than emotional ones.
