The new system will be better because so many governor and state house of assembly members uses the opportunity of the presidential victory especially if its in favour of their party to grab majority of the seats, same apply to governors too, let every man fight for himself, no man should ride on someone else victory to demoralised the opposing members. In IMO for example during the presidential election rochas was helpless as he was in an opposition party then, the moment buhari won everything changed, same way he sponsored all the state house of assembly members because the election was held thesame day, their victory was his victory, but now that he is not going to contest he already told them that that second term isn't guaranteed for any of them. Probably he may change his mind since his family wants his son in law to clinched the guber ticket for APC, in that case he will support the house members again and released the fund he has been starving them of. |

I only support the NASS’s reordering of elections because legislative elections should always come first. In a presidential system, the legislative arm is the de facto first branch of government, and without it, no statutes can be made. Thus, I support having an elections sequence that goes like this: 1st weekend - National Assembly and State Houses of Assembly elections. 2nd weekend - Presidential and governorship elections. |

There's no right or wrong in politics my dear. The current schedule was set for political reasons, it's currently being modified also for political reasons. At the end of the day, it's personal interest first |

But then, the Electoral Act confers on INEC the responsibility to organise elections, including the order of elections and the time table. |

8 Changes You Need to Know The National Assembly Approved to Electoral Act The National Assembly approved changes to Nigeria’s electoral act. Here are 8 things you need to know about it: INSTANT TRANSMISSION OF RESULTS The overarching objective of this new electoral act is to reduce human interference in the electoral process and minimize corruption. In this regard, the Electoral Act amendment mandates the immediate transmission of voting results from polling units to collation centers. This will help to give real-time results and updates and end election malpractice. ONLINE PUBLICATION OF VOTER REGISTERS This amendment provides a fair and more level playing ground for all contestants by mandating INEC to publish all voter registers 30 days before the election. This will end the manipulation of voter registers. In the case of missing names on the voter register, voters have 30 days to complain to INEC. FULL BIOMETRIC ACCREDITATION The Electoral Act amendment gives INEC powers to utilize full biometric accreditation of voters with smart card readers and/or other technological devices, as INEC may introduce for elections from time to time. RESTRICTS ARBITRARY QUALIFICATIONS The Electoral Act amendment ensures that political parties can no longer impose arbitrary qualification criteria on candidates. This will encourage younger voters to contest, promote competition in the process, and make elections more free and fair. CONFLICT RESOLUTION MECHANISMS The Electoral Act amendment sets out a more rigorous process for the determination of candidates, as well as creates dispute resolution mechanisms that will allow those who are aggrieved to petition quickly. MAXIMUM EXPENSES The Electoral Act amendment sets out the maximum expenses that can be incurred by every politician who is seeking election, as well as designates the fees that aspirants will pay to political parties to purchase forms. This means that our elections will no longer be about money and politics, but about competence. SUBSTITUTION, RESIGNATION & REPLACEMENT The Electoral Act amendment ensures that the names of candidates must be submitted not earlier than 90 days before the election, and not later than 60 days before the election. Additionally, candidates can only be substituted not later than 30 days before the election. Additionally, in the case of resignations, the person who is resigning must do so physically (in-person) — and his/her resignation letter will be transmitted to INEC. DEATH The Electoral Act amendment specifies that in the case of a death occurring before an election, such election will be suspended for 21 days and a replacement will be done within 14 days — the remaining the 7 days will be used for campaigning. |

Desyner:In 2015, those who cried over the huge turn out of under age voters were described as those whose hero lost the general election. There was no attempt by INEC to prosecute those involved, rather state machinery were deployed in cancelling 70% of the elections in regions of those who gave 5% votes. |

If they like let them scheduled the presidential election one yr after, Buhari will still win, it's similar to the trick used in 2015 in postponing election, yet he still came victorious! |

Wrong foot forward. In the instance of the subject under discussion and by a community reading of Section 76(1), Section 132(1) and Section 178(1) of The CFRN 1999 The INEC would appear to be saddled with the responsibility of fixing dates for the conduct of elections into the offices therein specified. The CFRN 1999 is a Principal legislation put side by side with the Electoral Act 2015 which is subsidiary to it by virtue of the fact that it is provided for by the CFRN 1999. It would therefore appear to be a sunken position to hold as valid the purported amendment to the Electoral Act 2015 that inserts a new Section 25(1) which states- “Elections into the office of the President and Vice-President, the Governor and Deputy Governor of a state and to the membership of the Senate, the House of Representatives and Houses of Assembly of each state of the federation shall be in the following order: National Assembly elections; state Houses of Assembly and governorship elections; and presidential election. The dates for these elections shall be as appointed by the Independent National Electoral Commission.” This is notwithstanding the clever attempt by the NASS at subverting the above stated Constitutional provisions by seeking to create a non-existent distinction between “sequence” or “order” of elections and “dates” of elections. It is akin to the difference between six and half a dozen! It is non-existent!! It is trite law that you cannot read into a piece of legislation what is not stated there no matter how strong your magnifying glasses are!!! To my mind the purported amendment by NASS are unlawful, null, void and liable to be struck out by our courts where challenged by an action in court. |

It is really stupid to say the present oder of having all the elections in one day has ni bandwagon effect. The bandwagon effect is so glaring even a blind man can see. The bill to reorder the sequence of elections by the Senate is in order and the bandwagon effect and this the article posted by the Op is hogwash. |
