Amnesty International (AI), has accused the Nigerian Military of killing at least 12 members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), in Umuahia Abia State.

Amnesty International made the statement on Thursday on its 2017/2018 Human Rights report.

According to the Amnesty report, it outlined that at least 12 members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), were killed by soldiers in Umuahia in Abia state on September 14 2017.

The global rights organisation also accused the Nigerian military of arbitrarily arresting and detaining thousands of young men, women and children.

It also said there was outrage over activities of SARS, and after huge pressure police agreed to reform the squad.

That number is grossly understated. Maybe they are talking about the day the military invaded Kanu's compound and disappeared with him and his parents.

Make no mistake, Amnesty international is fully aware that the number is higher but they picked 12 because those are the ones that they have the strongest evidence beyond reasonable doubt to back up.

Nigerian army has a habit of extra judicial killings and burying them in unmarked graves. About 2 unmarked shallow graves with missing IPOB members were found in the outskirts of Aba last year.

Nigerian government has refused to allow human rights bodies access to military barracks because they know that they will find dead bodies of people buried there.

When the military kills, unarmed citizens, they load up their bodies in their trucks and rush them to the barracks. At night they carry it to go bury in a secret grave. There are so many gruesome pictures of this practice.

One way to know a country that is not progressing is its human rights record.

A country that claims to be democratic yet, its security agencies are still engaged in high levels of human rights abuse such as illegal arrest and detention, torture, extrer-judicial execution, dehumanisation and disregard for the rule of law.

When those who should uphold the law are the ones breaking it, what hope is there for anyone?

What makes if even worse is that many Nigerians have actually come take it that human rights abuse is a duty of the Nigerian Army
