The National Assembly got this one right. Even their suppose timetable does not in anyway protect them. It will make our democracy stronger as election to presidency solely depends of senators and governor as they are closer to the people and can be used for voters inducement therefore theirs should come first. Only fools will think otherwise. |

Yankee101:Do they have as much power or near as popular as the sitting governor's whom majority are seeking 2nd term? Moreover, these governor's and president are still in power even after the elections.. |

senatordave1:For different elections it has been back and forth including that of shagari. We had a national assembly of majorly other party including mushroom parties but the right candidates were elected. And that election the presidential was the last on the timetable.. the lawyers would tell better but moreover we know what is best for our democracy. |

waveman2:Who does the constitution gives power to conducf polls, nass or inec? Mind you you cannot take away reordering from that duty, its like saying that students have the powers to exclusively decide the order of their exams and can also arrange exam schedule without any input from the lecturers,am i right? |

Esseite:Chairman, you havent answered me,you are talking about pre 1999 erae.you are dodgy.the 1999 constitution, who does it give the power to conduct elections? Remember the constitution has the final say in this matter, our personal opinion doesnt matter. |

Yankee101:Kwankwaso obviously did very well and kano has a high applaud for him including you and I, if ganduje does really well, kwankwaso cannot stop him no matter how he tries. All for the good of kano. Same for the rest. How come tinubu was not able to stop fashola despite even having more powers than a senator? Do you think ambode won't win a 2nd term even if tinubu back down? |

Things that are not working for us needs to be done differently. Who wrote this constitution are they not the same self serving politicians. Amendment of the constitution is a process and that process will be followed but u and I know dat when it doesn't, t favor them it is doa, that is why in this country the court should have a upper hand in constitutional amendment and not politicians. senatordave1: |

| Re: INEC Stands By 2019 Election Timetable — Prof. Yakubu by senatordave1(m): 9:51am On Feb 27, 2018 |
Esseite:You are beginning to sound annoying.that something was done unconstitutionally befors doesnt make it right.you are misunderstanding me.only inec has the power to arrange the sequence not the nass.if inec decides on their own without nass ordering them to reorder the sequence, that is legal.it is within their piwers to do so,nass doesnt have thd power to order them. |
| Re: INEC Stands By 2019 Election Timetable — Prof. Yakubu by senatordave1(m): 9:55am On Feb 27, 2018 |
waveman2:The court cannot have powers more than the constitution because the constitution created the judiciary.how can you be more powerful than your creator? In any case, the supreme court has the power to rule against inec and change constitutional provisions but until then, what inec decides about elections remains finak.except a court rules against them or the constitution is amended. |

| Re: INEC Stands By 2019 Election Timetable — Prof. Yakubu by Nobody: 9:58am On Feb 27, 2018 |
senatordave1:Okay, I understand your point. But the Inec chairman is obviously installed by the executive and would always do it's biddings. But don't you think the inec ought to, since they have the sole powers like you have said to alter elections to best fit for democracy and has been practised before? |

| Re: INEC Stands By 2019 Election Timetable — Prof. Yakubu by senatordave1(m): 10:03am On Feb 27, 2018 |
Esseite:Well, that same constitution allows the executive to appoint their chairman.the best way is for the constitution to stop the nass and executive from controlling inec because both are political and will be biaded.instead, let inec be totally independent with some form of control from the judiciary which is believed to be apolitical. |

ezyk:He was appointed by gej so we can assume he was controlled by them.if pdp allowed apc to control him,its the fault of pdp |
| Re: INEC Stands By 2019 Election Timetable — Prof. Yakubu by Nobody: 10:10am On Feb 27, 2018 |
senatordave1:Excellent.. but the CJN/AG usually appointed by the executive can always influence the judiciary whom you have opted to pick out the Inec chairman. I think the best solution would be, "he who shares takes last" just like we did with our meals. It brings equity. |

How come we claim it has no powers now? |

I hope they know that legislative arms of government are the ones that's screening them. Both the Senate and the reps screen the inec chairman and it's excision members. Infact they have power to remove inec chairman from that seat. |

cooljo85:I don't buy this idea. If Nigeria is well structured, development should go round all the states no matter who is the president. Nepotism is our problem. Jonathan built 9 federal universities in the north and 3 in the south. A good leader is a good leader. His policies will touch the lives of the citizens anywhere they are in the country. Forget 2023 and get a great leader in 2019, standard of living will improve. Remember, only single tax reform by Donald Trump last December, many people are receiving increase in salaries and bonuses. That is what good governance does to people. In 2014, you can fill your car tank with N7000 but now, you spend about N12000 to do so. Let's not be myopic in talking about 2023. Get a good leader in 2019, if he does great and wonderful policies and lives of Nigerians are improved, what are you talking about. |
