There are strong indications that the federal government has tactically approved the payment of N650 billion subsidy arrears to oil depot owners and marketers. According to a statement by the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMA), jointly signed by Mr Dapo Abiodun, Chairman and Olufemi Adewole, executive secretary, in Lagos, marketers have been reassured about the federal government's commitment to make payment as evidenced by the request for approval for appropriation of same to the National Assembly. The marketers said: "Following the 14-day ultimatum to commence staff disengagement given to the federal government by DAPPMA, in the light of over N650 billion owed to petroleum marketers, a series of constructive engagements and meetings were held with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Ministry of Labour, the Presidency and DAPPMA/Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN), marketers have been reassured about the federal government's commitment to make payment as evidenced by the request for approval for appropriation of same to the National Assembly.” The marketers hope that approval would be given promptly and long overdue payments made subsequently. "Consequently, DAPPMA/MOMAN, hereby suspend the issued 14-day ultimatum and we plead with our staff under the various umbrella unions, NARTO, PENGASSAN, NUPENG, PTD to please whilst this approval for appropriation by the National Assembly is being deliberated on and processed, which we believe will not exceed two weeks in adverse implications of any delay DAPPMA urged members to ensure that there were no distractions in the distribution of premium Motor spirit also known as petrol nationwide. The marketers had two weeks ago issued a 14-day ultimatum to the federal government within which to pay its debt of N165 billion fuel subsidy arrears, with a threat to commence sack of their staff if it fails to meet the ultimatum. https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/fg-approves-n650bn-payment-to-oil-marketers.html |
