In fact Akintola made it crystal clear that his anti-Awolowo stance was inspired by Awolowo's indifference to the gradual Igbo infiltration of the Western Region civil service on top of the the fact that Igbos also took Yorubas' "rightful" position at the center due to Awolowo's refusal to align with the North at independence.

That to me makes me extremely happy whenever people mention that "Igbos do not know how to play Nigerian politics."
